Chapter 421 You Stepped on My Skirt

Aaron clocked the rich dude eyeing Susanna and thought, 'No way I'm letting this creep in.'

He shot back, "Money? Pfft, I don't need your cash. Beat it!"

If this was Lindwell, that guy would've been toast ages ago.

The rich dude's face twisted. "Let's see how tough you really are. Get him!"

He swaggered up with his two goons, clearly thinking they could muscle their way in.

Aaron didn't even flinch. In no time, those bodyguards were eating dirt.

Seeing Aaron's moves, the rich dude remembered Aaron was a Maplewood Ridge assassin and got a bit freaked. He spat, "You lousy bodyguard, just you wait. This ain't over."

After the rich dude stormed off, Aaron just stood there, cool as a cucumber.

But he rubbed his arm. That scuffle had messed with his old injury again.

Aaron waited outside forever, but Susanna still hadn't come out. He figured she was taking her sweet time changing.

He knocked. "Susanna, you ready yet?"

No answer.

Thinking about that rich dude's earlier antics, he got worried something might've happened to her.

Aaron kicked the door open and barged in.

The living room was empty. He headed to the bathroom and knocked. "Susanna, you okay?"

He pushed the door open and saw Susanna's bare back, her dress stuck at her waist.

He froze, not expecting that sight. His throat went dry.

Susanna turned and yelled, "Aaron, what the heck? Get out!"

Aaron spun around. "Sorry, thought something was wrong."

"Well, there is something wrong."

Susanna struggled with her dress zipper but couldn't get it to budge.

Finally, she sighed, "Aaron, close your eyes and come in."

Aaron turned, surprised. Susanna shouted, "Close your eyes and don't peek."

Aaron shut his eyes. "What do you need me to do?"

"Take three steps forward."

Aaron took three steps, accidentally stepping on her dress, making Susanna scream, "What are you doing?"

He opened his eyes just in time to catch her as she almost fell.

Blushing, Susanna covered her chest and glared. "Did you step on my dress on purpose?"

She'd wanted him to help with the zipper, but he almost made her fall!

And she nearly exposed herself.

Aaron looked down at her in his arms. "You told me to take three steps."

"But not giant steps! The bathroom's tiny; why'd you take such big steps?"

"Is that on me?"

"Who else would it be?"

"Fine, I'll let go then."

"Wait, wait."

Susanna grabbed his arm. "You can't let go now!"

Aaron looked down at her embarrassed face, a smirk playing on his lips. "So, how do you want me to hold you?"

"Close your eyes first."

Aaron didn't budge.

He chuckled, "You want me to help you with this dress. How am I supposed to do that with my eyes shut?"

Susanna was stumped for a second. He had a point.

Aaron continued, "We used to be married, had a kid and everything. Why so shy now?"

"I'm not shy."

"Alright, stand still."

Without another word, he helped her stand properly and moved behind her, his eyes lingering on her smooth, fair back.

His gaze darkened.

He saw the zipper stuck at her waist and crouched down.

Susanna clutched the front of her dress, staring at the ceiling, feeling Aaron's intense gaze.

Soon, she heard him fiddling with the zipper.

She felt his fingers brush her back, making her squirm.

Aaron's deep voice commanded, "Stop moving."

"It tickles."

The bathroom felt like it was heating up, and Susanna couldn't help but ask, "Are you done yet?"

"Almost."

"It's just a zipper. How long does it take?"

Just as she finished speaking, she heard the zipper slowly moving up from her waist.

She took a deep breath, her heart racing.

Aaron leaned in, whispering in her ear, "I've never put a dress on a woman before."

Susanna turned her head, panicking, and quickly stepped out of his arms. "So, our relationship wasn't that great before. You never helped me with my dress!"

Aaron paused. "You're right. I wasn't good enough to you before."

"Mr. Abbott, it's nice you realize that now, but I don't lack men treating me well anymore."

Susanna adjusted her dress and hurried to the living room.

She poured herself a glass of water, her heartbeat still erratic from Aaron's closeness. How weird!

Aaron followed and leaned against the door frame, looking more relaxed. "Like that guy just now treated you?"

Susanna turned, surprised. "That guy is notorious in the entertainment industry for being greedy and sleazy. I'm not dumb enough to fall for his act."

"You better keep your distance from him. Always have a bodyguard with you when he's around," Aaron advised.

"Are you scared of him?"

"I'm not scared of him, I'm worried about you. While you were changing, that rich guy came with two bodyguards, trying to bribe me to let him in. What do you think he would've done if he got inside?"

Susanna raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

"I have no reason to lie to you," Aaron replied.

Susanna's expression turned icy. "That idiot's been abroad for years and just got back. He still doesn't get how things work in Novaria."

Aaron put on his sunglasses. "You should make an appearance now."

Susanna, in her new dress, walked out but heard a girl's cry for help from down the hallway after a few steps.

What the heck happened?
