Chapter 285 Ex-Husband and Fiancé?
Aaron and Michael crossed paths in the hallway, one looking mature and cold, the other distant and aloof.
The atmosphere was super calm.
As they passed each other, Aaron couldn't help but say, "You and her don't fit."
Michael smirked. "As her ex-husband, you're out of line."
"Hold up!" Aaron's voice cut through the air. With a cold glance, he warned, "This is a heads-up. Your family won't accept the baby she's carrying. She's stubborn and will keep the child."
"No, my family will welcome the baby. I can't have kids, so if I marry her, I'll have a wife and twins. My mom will be thrilled." Michael said casually and walked towards the restroom.
Aaron stood there, shadows from the hallway lights covering his face.
Anger surged through him, and he punched the wall in frustration.
The news about Susanna's fiancé almost made him lose it.
Inside the private room, Susanna looked at Austin. "Austin, is Mr. Brown really my fiancé? You said that just to mess with Aaron, right?"
She had seen Aaron nearby, so Austin must have too.
He wouldn't have said something like that without knowing Aaron was around.
Austin put down his fork and looked at her meaningfully. "Susanna, you put up with the Abbott family for three years. Is it okay if I pay them back for you?"
"It's over between us. No need for this. Let's part on good terms," Susanna said.
"Oh, my little fool," Austin squinted.
Susanna wanted to end things peacefully, but Aaron clearly didn't. He seemed a bit regretful.
Soon after, Michael came back, and the three of them left the private room together.
Susanna glanced at the adjacent private room. The door was open, and it was empty, suggesting a quick exit.
It was clear they had left early. With a quiet sigh, she turned and left the restaurant with her brother.
In the following days, Susanna focused on school and exam prep. Life was peaceful again.
The night before the exam, Susanna felt nervous. Her brothers cheered her on, and even Madison wanted to go with her to the exam.
Caught between laughter and tears, Susanna's mild jitters turned into deep anxiety.
She went to bed early to rest before the exam, but her phone buzzed unexpectedly. Curious, she read the message: [Are you asleep?]
Why was Aaron texting her so late?
As she hesitated, she wondered if ignoring him would seem rude.
Despite her doubts, Susanna reminded herself she was over him. No need to feel awkward. She replied: [What's up?]
Aaron: [Come downstairs!]
His tone was still commanding.
Susanna put down her phone, opened the curtains, and looked towards the gate.
The moon was bright. A sleek black luxury car caught her eye—it looked familiar.
Aaron was actually outside? What did he want?
Susanna replied: [Leave, I'm going to sleep!]
With a determined flick, she shut the curtains, refusing to give in to his unexpected visit. What was Aaron thinking, disturbing her like this?
Lying in bed, she tossed and turned, her mind racing about Aaron's late-night appearance. His presence was stirring up anxiety when she needed to focus on her exam.
Before she could think further, the doorbell rang faintly, jolting her upright. Could it be Aaron?
As she dismissed the idea, the persistent knocking continued, erasing her doubts.
In a swift motion, Susanna opened her bedroom door to find Madison heading towards the entrance. "Who could be knocking at this hour?" she wondered aloud.
"Madison." Susanna tried to stop her, but it was too late.
The door opened, revealing Aaron. He was in a gray casual outfit, looking more relaxed than his usual stern self.
Susanna forced a polite smile. Aaron had really come up!
Madison looked shocked, turning to Susanna, "Why is he here?"
Aaron answered politely, "Grandma asked me to bring something to her."
"Oh, I see. Come in then." Madison knew Aaron as Susanna's ex-husband but didn't expect him to visit after the divorce.
Susanna saw Madison's unease and spoke directly, "You should go to bed. He'll leave soon after delivering the item."
"Then pour Mr. Abbott a glass of water." Madison, flustered, returned to her room.
Now it was just the two of them in the living room.
Susanna noticed Aaron holding a box. She spoke coldly, "Just leave it on the table."
Aaron sat on the sofa, glancing around the small apartment. "Does your brother really let you live in such a cramped space?" he asked, frowning.
Susanna's mood shifted. "Mr. Abbott, if you're here, just be present. Let's skip the unnecessary chatter," she retorted.
He looked up. "Do you have to talk like that?"
"You started it! My brothers have offered me luxury cars and mansions, but I prefer living here. Even though they're wealthy, I'm still the independent woman who doesn't chase material things, is frugal, optimistic, kind, and beautiful!"
Aaron's mouth twitched at her sarcasm.
He placed the box on the table. "Grandma asked me to give this to you."
"Thanks. You can leave now. The door is over there." Susanna accepted the gift, her expression calm.
Aaron's gaze lingered on her. "Aren't you going to open it?"
Susanna opened the box and saw desserts with "Good luck on your exam" written on them.
She was stunned. "Did Grandma make this herself?"
She remembered Maria making this for Aaron's birthday before, but she hadn't been in the kitchen for a long time due to her age.
"She knew you had an exam tomorrow and started preparing the ingredients early this morning. But due to her age, she failed a few times. By the time she succeeded, it was already very late, and she insisted I bring it to you," Aaron said softly.
Susanna's eyes welled up with emotion. Taking a bite, she said, "It's delicious. I'll do my best on the exam tomorrow."
Aaron looked at her deeply, his expression hesitant.
