Chapter 509 Confrontation
When Susanna saw Amelia agree to have dinner with Owen and the others, she was floored. She thought Amelia would be in no mood to hang out with Owen after everything that just went down.
But, to her surprise, Amelia pulled herself together pretty quickly.
Susanna had expected Amelia to dodge the whole situation, so this was a curveball.
Honestly, Susanna wasn't thrilled about the dinner. With Vivian and Maud there, just seeing them killed her appetite.
But since Amelia was going, Susanna reluctantly decided to tag along.
She wanted to win Amelia over and couldn't let her fall into Vivian's trap.
Susanna had dealt with Vivian before and knew her tricks.
Having her around could keep Amelia from getting the short end of the stick.
After all, she was betting on Amelia.
When Amelia agreed, Owen immediately grinned, stepped forward, patted Amelia on the shoulder, and said, "That's more like it. We're all family; no need to be so distant."
Amelia lowered her head and stayed quiet, but she wasn't as worked up as before. It was like she calmed down in an instant.
Vivian, standing nearby, saw Amelia's reaction, and a hint of caution flashed in her eyes.
She had already looked into Amelia and knew she was someone with little social experience, making her easy to handle.
Vivian had always wanted to drive a wedge between Amelia and Owen.
Only then would she have the chance to officially replace Amelia and become Owen's only daughter.
After all, how could a woman of such high status tolerate Owen bringing back a son from another woman to be the heir?
Vivian wanted Amelia and Owen to fall out, so she would have a chance.
But now, if Amelia was willing to bow to Owen, the situation was different. To her, this was a dangerous signal.
Susanna said nothing and followed the group to the elevator.
Aaron walked up to her and whispered, "You and Amelia are having dinner together. What do you want to talk about?"
"Mr. Abbott, this is my personal business. I don't need to report it to you."
Aaron tried to grab her hand, but she dodged him.
Susanna quickened her pace, walking ahead and leaving Aaron behind.
She felt there was nothing to discuss with Aaron now.
Whether Aaron wanted to cooperate with Owen or for some other reason, she didn't care and didn't want to hear his explanation.
Aaron's hand grasped at empty air, and he slowly withdrew it.
Watching Susanna's retreating figure, Aaron felt a hint of helplessness.
He knew Susanna was definitely angry about his cooperation with Owen.
In fact, the situation wasn't as rumored. How could he possibly cooperate with Owen to go against the Jones Family?
But now Susanna wouldn't even listen to his explanation.
Watching Susanna's retreating figure, Aaron felt complex and helpless in his heart.
His heart tightened, but then he remembered he had added one of the twins on WhatsApp, and he felt a bit relieved.
After all, there was plenty of time. He believed that one day he would be able to win them back.
Vivian observed that Aaron, who was usually distant and aloof, exhibited a remarkably tender side in his interactions with Susanna.
Her eyes darkened. She used to be no match for Susanna, but now she was Owen's daughter and finally worthy of Aaron.
At that moment, Maud walked up to Aaron and said, "Aaron, why are you acting so humble in front of Susanna? You're the richest guy in Lindwell. Even though she's now a Jones, she won't inherit all their wealth. Why should she act all high and mighty with you? It's already a big deal that you're even interested in her. She's divorced with kids; how well can she remarry?"
Aaron's face darkened. "Mom, if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all."
Maud huffed, "Aaron, I'm just looking out for you. There are so many great girls out there, and many of them are single. Why not pick one of them? Why insist on Susanna?"
Aaron shot back, "Because I love her. In this lifetime, I won't marry anyone but her."
"But Susanna has six fierce brothers. Aren't you afraid they'll kill you? They definitely won't let you marry her. Are you planning to stay single forever?"
Aaron's voice was firm. "Yes, if I can't marry her, I'd rather stay single for life."
"How can you do that? You don't even have a child."
Aaron replied calmly, "I have a child."
"Lillian isn't a boy; she can't inherit the family business. You need to have a son. If there's no boy to inherit the family, it will benefit the other members of the Abbott Family."
"When I die, I'll donate all the inheritance."
Maud was livid. "Why would you donate it? There's so much wealth, and you just want to give it away."
"By then, you won't be around anymore, so donating the inheritance won't affect you."
Maud was so angry she felt unwell.
She had a son she was proud of, but Aaron never listened to her. She had no say in the Abbott Family and desperately wanted to assert herself in front of Susanna.
Because she had been invisible in the Abbott Family for so long, she wanted to overshadow Susanna.
But if Aaron really married Susanna, wouldn't she be the one with the least say in the family?
After all, Susanna had six brothers backing her up. Who would dare to bully her? She wouldn't be as oppressed as she was.
The group, each with their own thoughts, walked into the largest private room.
After everyone sat down, no one spoke. Amelia sat to Owen's left, and Vivian to his right, neither giving way.
Soon, the waiter came over to take their order. Vivian grabbed the menu and, pretending to be the host, said, "Dad, let me order a few dishes for everyone. What do you like to eat?"
At that moment, Amelia directly addressed the waiter, "Bring us a couple of your newest special dishes and our regular go-to orders. And don't forget to bring some red wine and drinks too."
The waiter nodded quickly. "Okay, no problem."
Vivian's face instantly changed. Amelia was definitely doing this on purpose.
Amelia looked at Vivian and said, "Sorry, you probably haven't been to places like this before, so you're not familiar with the menu. There's no need to waste time going through it. I'm familiar with this place, so I can order directly and save time."
Owen nodded and glanced at Vivian. "You still have a lot to learn. Given your background, if you want to fit into this circle, you need to learn more and meet more people."
Vivian was so angry she could have ground her teeth to dust, but she didn't dare say anything and just nodded.
However, Vivian didn't want to lose this round and immediately brought up Ramond. "Dad, Ramond said he really likes the gift you gave him and wants to play chess with you next time."
