Chapter 578 Is This All You've Got?
Susanna caught Cecil's words and shot him a mocking look. Seriously, more weirdos were popping up every day.
She couldn't believe Cecil had the guts to talk to Aaron like that. Did he really think his lame attempt to stir up trouble would work? Susanna just sneered and kept quiet.
Selene, seeing this, chimed in loudly, "Yeah, she's divorced. I heard she married some rich guy, but then they didn't match up, and he kicked her out. He doesn't even care about his own kids. Don't let her fool you; she's bad news."
But Aaron's face turned dark as soon as he heard that. He glared at Selene and said, "Her ex-husband never despised her, and he never neglected their kids. People who don't know anything should just shut up and stop spreading lies."
Selene shot back, "Sir, everything I said is true. Ask around if you don't believe me. Everyone knows Susanna married a rich guy, got divorced, and he doesn't support the kids. I heard she was doing well abroad but came back all down and out. Who knows if some rich guy dumped her? No one knows what she's been up to all these years."
Lillian, hearing this, got angry and said, "You're the one who's no good. Don't talk about my mom like that."
Seeing Lillian upset, Aaron glanced at his secretary and said, "Make them shut up."
The secretary signaled to the bodyguards, who stepped up and slapped Selene a few times, leaving her unable to stand.
Cecil, shocked, said, "How can you hit her? That's illegal!"
The secretary gave Cecil a cold look and said, "You and your mother were the ones who disrespected and slandered Ms. Jones first. We have the right to take legal action. Expect a lawyer's letter."
Cecil felt a bit scared. He'd seen rich folks with their secretaries and bodyguards before. He tried to stand his ground and said, "But my mom didn't lie. Everyone knows this stuff."
Aaron stepped forward and stared Cecil down. "What do you mean by 'everyone knows'? Your mother said my ex-wife was kicked out and that I don't support our kids. How do you know so much about the Abbott Family's business?"
Cecil was stunned. "You're her ex-husband?"
Madison quickly said, "That's right, this man is Susanna's ex-husband. Compared to him, how could Susanna ever choose you? Look at yourself, do you even measure up?"
Seeing Selene get hit, Maya got scared and wanted to bolt. She quickly explained, "Madison, this is a misunderstanding. I didn't know they were like this. If I had known, I wouldn't have introduced them. Ms. Jones's ex-husband is so handsome and considerate. Regular folks can't compete with that."
Who would've thought Susanna's ex-husband Aaron was such a big shot? With a guy like that in her past, no way she'd settle for an average Joe after the divorce.
Aaron turned his icy gaze to Maya and asked, "You tried to set my ex-wife up with someone?"
Maya shrank back, stammering, "I saw Ms. Jones was doing great, and being a single mom with two kids is tough. I just wanted to help her out."
Susanna shot her a mocking look. "I can take care of myself. But someone clearly had other plans." They saw Susanna was doing well, had no family, and thought Madison was easy to push around, so they tried to take advantage.
Susanna turned to Madison and said, "You need to be more careful about who you let into your life. Some people just want to use you and push you around. Do they really think no one will stand up for you?"
Susanna had heard about the nosy neighbors in Madison's community who liked to take advantage of her kindness. Every time the family doctor came for a check-up, they'd hang around for a freebie. Madison was too polite to say no.
The family doctor, wanting to keep Edward happy, never said anything either, which only made the neighbors bolder. Even though Madison had turned down Maya's offer, she still had the nerve to bring people over, showing zero respect.
Susanna decided it was time to help Madison deal with these pesky neighbors once and for all. Madison nodded. "Susanna, I never thought they'd be so shameless."
Before, Madison had let things slide because they got along okay. But today, Maya had crossed the line. Bullying her was one thing, but trying to mess with Susanna was too much.
Madison turned to Maya and said, "Get out of my house and don't come back."
Maya, feeling humiliated, snapped, "What's so great about your house? It's just a widow's place. I came here out of kindness, and you think you're special? Just because Susanna's ex-husband is rich? They're divorced; what does that have to do with you?"
Cecil chimed in, "Yeah, my mom got beaten up. I'm definitely calling the cops and suing you. Just wait."
The secretary calmly handed over a business card. "Feel free to contact me anytime."
Cecil glanced at the card and was shocked. "You're the executive assistant to the president of the Abbott Group?"
The secretary gave him a cold look. "Got a problem with that?"
Cecil looked between the secretary and Aaron, then asked, "So he is...?"
