Chapter 247 Mr. Abbott Got Heartbroken Again

When Maria heard Susanna, she quickly replied, "Grandma, I don't want any of the property."

Maria sighed, "Silly girl, most people would be fighting for more money in a divorce, and here you are, not wanting anything?"

"Grandma, I didn't marry into the Abbott family for money. My family's doing well now, so I don't need anything. Don't worry about me."

Aaron chimed in, "Grandma, I offered her a share of the property, but she refused."

Susanna nodded. "Yes, he's right."

Maria waved her hand. "I'll handle this. I'll call the lawyer and have him draft a document."

Susanna knew Maria was serious and would definitely send over the property division documents. But she didn't need the Abbott family's money.

"Grandma, there's no time. Aaron and I are going to the divorce court. No need for all this trouble."

"It's no trouble. I'll have the lawyer send the documents directly to the Family Court," Maria insisted.

Susanna was surprised by Maria's insistence. She realized Maria wouldn't back down.

"Alright then, it's getting late. I'll be going now."

"Go ahead, you should still have time to make it to Family Court. I'll push the lawyer to speed things up," Maria encouraged.

Susanna nodded and left the hospital room. But outside, she realized Aaron hadn't followed. She lingered, unsure whether to stay or go.

Aaron stayed in the ward, looking at Maria. "Grandma, are you really not angry?"

"I'm angry. I didn't expect you to have this attitude. I regret you didn't get divorced sooner!" Maria said.

Aaron felt a pang of discomfort. "Haven't you always liked Susanna? Why agree to the divorce?"

Maria looked at him. "What do you mean by that?"

"I mean, I don't care who becomes Mrs. Abbott. Susanna makes you happy, so you can keep her," Aaron explained.

"Aaron, how could I be so selfish as to keep Susanna stuck in the Abbott family? She's young, found her family, and they're doing well. She can start over, find someone who truly loves her, get married, and have kids. Why should she stay in the Abbott family?"

Maria saw through everything.

When Aaron heard Maria say Susanna would find another man and have children, he felt a strong resistance.

Maria squinted. "Aaron, do you not want to divorce Susanna?"

Aaron looked uncomfortable. "No, I'm just considering your feelings."

"Don't say that. If you don't like Susanna, you should get divorced to avoid mutual torment," Maria said.

Aaron felt uneasy. "Grandma, you don’t always have to be in love to get married. I just think marriage is a hassle."

"Well, today, you can become single again and be free of this hassle," Maria replied.

Aaron stood there silently, at a loss for words.

Maria looked at him. "You should go now, or you'll miss the Family Court's hours, and they'll be closed."

Aaron pressed his lips into a thin line, then finally turned and left the ward. Maria watched his back and sighed. In the end, she couldn't keep him.

Taylor quietly walked in and asked, "Mrs. Maria Abbott, why didn't you try to persuade Susanna? She respects you. If you said you didn't agree to the divorce, she wouldn't go through with it."

"Do you think I don't know that? But I can't do that."

"But I saw Mr. Abbott's expression. It doesn't look like he has no feelings for Mrs. Abbott. They just need a little more time," Taylor remarked.

Maria smiled. "I know, that's why I said what I did to provoke him. If he doesn't cherish her and personally go after Susanna, she'll leave him. How can you know to cherish something if you don't lose it?"

Taylor thought for a moment and found it made some sense. "But what if they really get divorced?"

"They can always remarry. Divorce isn't a big deal these days." Maria was very open-minded. She immediately called the lawyer to arrange the property division documents.

Outside the hospital.

Susanna and Aaron left together. Sitting in the car, she stared out the window. Surprisingly, she felt calm. They didn't speak the whole way, and an hour later, the car stopped outside the Family Court.

Susanna looked up at the building, feeling like it was just yesterday she had been here. So much had happened in the past month.

Aaron spoke beside her, "Susanna, have you really thought this through?"

She looked at Aaron, taking in his strong, handsome features. He was undeniably charming. Since he had gotten out of the car, several girls had already glanced his way.

Susanna responded calmly, "Why do you ask?"

Just as she finished speaking, her phone rang. Seeing it was Austin, she turned away and answered, "Hello?"

"Susanna, I got off work early today and thought I'd pick you up from school."

Susanna quickly said, "I'm not at school right now, so you don't need to come."

"You're not at school? Where are you?" Austin asked.

Susanna thought for a moment and answered honestly, "I'm at the Family Court, about to handle the divorce procedures with Aaron."

Austin laughed, "Alright, I'll come pick you up then."

Susanna hung up and turned to meet Aaron's deep, narrow eyes. "Let's go."

"Who was that on the phone? Was it Austin?" Aaron asked, a hint of jealousy in his voice.

"Yes, he's coming to pick me up later," Susanna replied honestly. She looked at Aaron. When their eyes met—his usually cold and distant—she noticed something different in his gaze.

'What was he about to say before I took the call?' Susanna wondered.
