Chapter 591 The Finale (Part 1)

Susanna just shot a quick glance at the other person and shut down Aaron's computer. No need to explain anything. She turned back to Aaron, who was already digging into his meal with a fork.

The secretary next to them got a call, stepped out, and told the woman on the other end, "That's Mr. Abbott's ex-wife. Best not to mess with her."

While Aaron ate, Susanna finished reading the proposal in her hand. She had to admit, the document was pretty useful.

When Aaron was almost done eating, Susanna got ready to leave the ward. His voice stopped her, "What did you say to her at the café today?"

Susanna asked, "Were you following me?"

"Technically, I was following her. The people around her aren't exactly trustworthy."

Susanna couldn't argue with that. She paused and said, "Maria asked me to find her. She doesn't agree with you giving all the shares to her."

"Did Grandma ask you to bring the will and the divorce agreement?"

"You knew about this too?" Susanna suddenly got curious about Aaron. He seemed to know everything but kept it all to himself.

She took a deep breath. "I also think giving the shares to Maud is a bad idea." With that, Susanna left the hospital room, not feeling any better.

She also talked this over with Maria. Maria shrugged it off. "Don't take her words to heart. If it weren't for Aaron's soft spot, someone else would've kicked her out long ago. How could she threaten him?"

Thinking of Maud cursing Aaron, Susanna suddenly felt some sympathy for him. Everyone said Aaron was ruthless, but she knew he had principles. At least he was better than those who seemed nice but would stab others in the back when it mattered.

Maria continued, "Let me be the bad guy. Anyway, I don't have much time left."

Susanna held Maria's hand. "Then you need to get better soon to keep an eye on Aaron."

Not long after, Vivian's case was resolved. She was already a fugitive, and now she had committed a crime. The final verdict wouldn't be good.

With Maria's health in question, Susanna stayed in Lindwell to work on the hotel business instead of going back.

Following Aaron's recommendation, Susanna got people to handle the matter, and things were going smoothly. But just as they were about to sign the contract, they were told the other party needed to reconsider.

Susanna had someone look into it and found out that someone was secretly competing with her, and the competitor was from Emerald Island. This was interesting. Were the people from Emerald Island doing this on purpose?

Soon, Susanna's assistant reported back. "Ms. Jones, according to our investigation, it seems someone from the Abbott Family helped introduce them, which is why they suddenly backed out."

"Someone from the Abbott Family?" This didn't make sense. Aaron wouldn't do that. She looked at the secretary. "Did you find out which Abbott did it?"

"Based on the description, I think it was Maud."

Seeing how quickly the other party acted, Susanna guessed that Maud had secretly informed the people from Emerald Island about Aaron's plans.

But before she could react, Aaron had already sent someone to handle the matter. The people from Emerald Island didn't sign the contract.

The original partner came back to Susanna, looking a bit sheepish. "Ms. Jones, we were tricked by Maud. Please don't hold it against us. Let's keep working together."

Susanna gave a faint smile. "I don't like being betrayed, so there's no need for us to work together anymore." She headed to the hospital to get some answers from Aaron, but Maud was already there.

Maud said, "Aaron, what do you mean by this? I was just helping with the introduction, and you embarrassed me. How am I supposed to maintain my reputation in the company now?"

Susanna frowned and walked in. "That's funny. This was aimed at me, right? Maud, your actions constitute leaking trade secrets."

"Stop trying to scare me. It was Aaron who gave you the channel. This time, the people from Emerald Island wanted to cooperate, and they're much better than you."

Susanna sneered. "I wasn't planning to pursue this, but since you said that, just wait for the lawyer's letter."

"Big words, huh?" A woman walked in from outside, wearing a hat and mask, looking very mysterious.

Susanna thought the woman looked familiar. "Are you the rumored granddaughter of Connor?"

"Didn't expect you to know me, but have you forgotten everything you did to me back then?"

When the woman took off her mask, Maud was startled. "Erica?"

Susanna didn't expect the woman in front of her to be Erica. Back then, Erica's schemes against her were exposed. Erica was detained in Lindwell for a while, then deported and banned from entering Novaria.

There had been no trace of her for years, and Susanna didn't expect to meet her here. Erica's expression was cold. "Didn't expect it to be me, did you? Back then, you made my life miserable. Have you forgotten so quickly?"

Susanna felt a bit helpless. "Sorry, we really haven't thought about you all these years. You stole years of my life and tried to take over my identity. How can you speak like a victim with such shamelessness?"

After Susanna finished speaking, Erica took a deep breath. "Cut the crap. You can't afford to offend me with my current status."

"An unknown status that hasn't been made public. Do you really think I'm afraid of you?" Susanna then looked at Maud. "It seems you really like being used. A little favor and you're completely taken in."

Maud didn't expect the other party to be Erica, who looked at Maud with a mocking expression. "I just had someone say a few words, and she believed it. I really feel sorry for Aaron, having such a useless mother. Good thing she's his biological mother; otherwise, he would have turned against her long ago."

Provoked, Maud went up and hit Erica, catching her off guard and pinning her to the ground. Susanna watched from the side, thinking Erica had really struck a nerve with Maud.

Erica shouted, "Maud, how dare you hit me! Help!" But no one came in until Maud was almost done hitting her.

Erica was beaten badly and said furiously, "I will definitely sue you. How dare you hit me."

Susanna remained calm. "Feel free to sue if you think you can win."

"Just wait and see." Erica limped away.

Maud sat on the ground, looking devastated. "Everyone comes to deceive me. They all think I'm easy to manipulate!"

For a moment, Susanna didn't know what to say. Aaron spoke up, "Don't worry! I'll have the lawyer handle this."

Maud's expression turned awkward. "Everyone looks down on me. You're not even my biological child. Why do you keep doing these things for me?"
