Chapter 142 I Must Have Been Stupid to Fall for You

Susanna looked up at him earnestly, her clear eyes reflecting his image. The two stood in the corridor, and the hot summer wind blew in from the window.

Aaron saw himself in her eyes, and for a moment, his heart raced. He immediately denied it, "Susanna, you've become even more shameless in just a few days. How could you think I like you?"

The man wore a cold and noble expression, his gaze somewhat unnatural. He even raised his hand to tug at his tie to cover up his chaotic emotions.

"Oh, if you're not interested in me, then why are you so concerned about my love life? You even said the men I chose were not good enough. Don't you think you're overstepping as my soon-to-be ex-husband?" Susan countered.

"It's just that you have poor taste in men," Aaron replied.

Susanna seemed to agree. "You're right. If I had good taste, I wouldn't have fallen for you in the first place."

Aaron felt another stab in his heart. He gritted his teeth and said, "Susanna, don't regret it."

With that, the man walked away.

Susanna watched him leave, a hint of bitterness in her eyes. She touched her slightly swollen belly. She would never regret it.

She adjusted her expression and walked into the ward with freshly washed fruit, voicing, "Grandma."

"Susanna, did you see Aaron just now? He was here too."

Susanna was taken aback. "No, I didn't."

She instinctively lied and then felt a bit annoyed with herself.

Grandma Maria held her hand. "You must have missed each other. He went downstairs to listen in on the surgery plan. He should be back soon."

Upon hearing this, Susanna was distracted as she thought, 'Aaron went to listen in on the surgery plan? Oh no, Austin is also downstairs!'

Susanna finally realized that Aaron had left in the same direction as Austin. How did she not notice?

What If Austin saw Aaron? Would they fight?

Susanna felt restless and couldn't help but say, "Grandma, I’d like to go downstairs and listen in too."

She mainly wanted to see what was happening. If they really started fighting, she could step in to stop it.

Grandma Maria looked at her. "Why? Let Aaron handle it. Meetings are so boring. I'd rather you stay here and keep me company."

Susanna forced a smile. She wasn't just going downstairs for the meeting; she wanted to prevent a conflict.

'Grandma, you don't understand my concern.' Susanna yelled inwardly.

What excuse could she use to slip out?

At this moment, in the downstairs meeting room, almost all the doctors were present to finalize the surgery plan.

Austin, as the lead surgeon, sat in the center, listing many details that needed attention for the surgery, meticulously covering everything.

Aaron sat at the far end, listening. Initially, he found Austin very displeasing, but since Austin was the lead surgeon for his grandmother's operation, he had to tolerate it for now.

Austin naturally noticed Aaron, a cold glint in his eyes.

Seeing Aaron made him want to punch someone. Aaron had married his sister and even got her pregnant! Damn it, just thinking about how Susanna almost became a widow after marrying the half-dead Aaron made him irritable.

The two men found each other very disagreeable.

However, the pre-surgery meeting proceeded in an orderly manner and concluded without incident.

The other doctors, after listening to Austin's presentation, were immediately impressed. "Doctor Jones, we've learned a lot through our interactions over this period. Rest assured, we will be very attentive and will not distract you."

Austin nodded. "This surgery isn't led by me alone. I hope everyone will cooperate with me as much as possible."

After some casual chatting and exchanging of ideas, everyone gradually left the meeting room.

As Austin was about to leave, he heard Aaron's cold voice from behind. "Doctor Jones, please wait a moment."

Hearing this, Austin pressed lips together. He turned to face Aaron, his tone indifferent. "How can I help you?"

"Indeed, I do need your help."

Aaron stepped forward a few paces, and the two men stood face to face, neither yielding an inch.

After a moment, Aaron spoke, "Doctor Jones, I appreciate you coming to perform surgery on my grandmother, but Susanna is still my wife. I hope you can maintain a proper social distance with her."

"She's your wife? How shameless. After the surgery, you two will be finalizing your divorce, won't you?" Austin retorted.

Aaron's eyes narrowed slightly. "I never said that."

"Aaron, are you planning to back out?"

Austin stepped forward, grabbing him by the collar, his eyes cold. "Aaron, let me tell you, if it weren't for the surgery I have to perform in a couple of days, I would have punched you just now!"

As a doctor, he always had to be careful with his hands.

Especially since he had a delicate surgery to perform in a few days, his hands couldn't afford any injury. So when he saw Aaron earlier, he held back, resisting the urge to hit him.

But this guy dared to back out of the divorce.

Aaron stood there with a cold expression, "Likewise, I've tolerated you for a long time."

"Fine. After the surgery, let's have a proper showdown, man to man! The loser leaves!" Austin said.

At this moment, Susanna arrived outside the meeting room and saw the tense scene between the two.

She quickly pushed open the door. "Stop it, both of you!"

Susanna stepped forward to separate them, standing between them. "Let's talk this out calmly. Everyone, cool down."

Austin adjusted his clothes. "I've said all I need to say. Susanna, let's go."

"Really?" Susanna looked at her brother in confusion. It seemed they hadn't fought, thankfully she arrived in time.

Austin said nothing more, taking her hand and leaving the meeting room.

Susanna didn't resist. She glanced back at Aaron, who was standing there, meeting his blue eyes that seemed to hold emotions she couldn't decipher.

Her heart felt as if it had been struck by something, and she hurriedly looked away.

She must have been mistaken.

How could Aaron show such an expression?

The man stood there, watching Susanna leave with Austin, his gaze fixed on their held hands, his face darkening.

After they disappeared from sight, he kicked a chair hard, shouting, "Damn it."

Aaron irritably tugged at his tie and looked at Tyler beside him. "Tell me, doesn't she have poor taste in men? How did she end up falling for Erica's brother?"

Tyler tentatively said, "Boss, I think Susanna still has feelings for you. Why not try to win her back?"

The man's hand paused, his expression becoming unnatural. " Why would I chase after her? Are you out of your mind?"
