Chapter 168 Brian Is a Douchebag
Susanna was still a bit confused after hearing this. "My cousin?" she asked.
Did she even have a cousin?
She didn't respond right away, and Harper quickly added, "Susanna, we're close. Don't hold back. Just tell me, is your cousin single or taken? He's quite the catch with his looks and wealth."
Dick frowned and interrupted, "Mom, what are you saying? How could Mr. Abbott be single?!"
Aaron, the heir to the affluent Abbott family of Lindwell, couldn't possibly be unattached. It wasn't a matter of his reluctance to wed; the compatibility between their families was simply not feasible.
Dick was still hopeful about winning over Susanna and using her connection to Aaron to boost his Epic Horizon.
Susanna was still a bit stunned by what Harper said.
Could it be that Harper had taken a liking to Aaron the last time they met and wanted to set him up?
Harper chimed in, "Dick, there's no harm in asking. Plus, how's your cousin doing? She's an international student, attractive, and well-educated. I'm just asking for her benefit, is that alright?"
Susanna knew she had guessed right; they indeed wanted to set him up.
Harper then looked at her and said, "Susanna, I'm just asking out of goodwill. If he's not single or not interested in dating, then forget it, I'm not forcing it."
Susanna's mouth twitched. "Um, my cousin should be considered single."
After all, she and Aaron were heading to the courthouse next Monday to finalize their divorce.
If Aaron was divorced, that would mean he was single.
After Susanna mentioned this, Harper's face lit up with excitement. "So he's really single? What type of women does your cousin prefer? You heard me talking to Dick earlier; his cousin is quite exceptional, and most guys can't compare. She's also a returnee from overseas, and doesn't your cousin own a company? It could be advantageous for his business as well."
Susanna didn't know how to respond for a moment.
"Susanna, you wouldn't be unwilling to make the introduction, would you? What if your cousin and Dick's cousin fall in love at first sight? Our families would be even closer," Harper added.
Susanna said, "Aunt Harper, it's not that I'm unwilling! It's just that my relationship with my cousin isn't that good!"
Requiring her to set someone up with Aaron was something she couldn't quite bring herself to do. Given Aaron's status, he wasn't lacking in female admirers. Moreover, Maud was so fond of the Jones family heiress that other girls didn't stand much of a chance; marrying into a wealthy family wasn't a simple feat.
"Susanna, you don't need to do much, just give me your cousin's social media account, or give it to Dick, and let Dick pass it to his cousin," said Harper.
Dick immediately interrupted his mother, "Mom, that's enough, we're running late; let's go."
Harper left the office reluctantly, and once outside, she whispered to Dick, "Why did you stop me?"
"Mom, if my cousin and Susanna's cousin get together, then Susanna and I would be related, and what if rich families mind that?"
Harper expressed some discontent. "Susanna isn't extremely wealthy either, and the girl I'm introducing you to today is affluent and stunning, your cousin's classmate. You should leave a good impression, explore both options, and if things don't work out with Susanna, you'll have a backup plan. Dick, you're quite good-looking; you should aim to find a remarkable and well-connected woman who complements you."
Dick adjusted his appearance in the elevator reflection, showing a proud expression. There wasn't much progress with Susanna; her personality was too slow, so he needed to make more plans.
After finishing her work at Epic Horizon, Susanna left directly. She took out her phone to call Brian, wanting to tell him she was done with work, but no one answered.
'What is going on, is he still busy?' Susanna wondered. They had agreed last night that she would call him after finishing her work at Epic Horizon.
Susanna thought Brian might be busy with work, so she didn't call again, just sent a message: [Brian, I'm done.]
Soon, Brian called back. Susanna answered immediately, "Brian, I..."
"Who are you? Why are you calling?"
A woman's voice came from the other end, cold and questioning.
Susanna was stunned and looked at her phone. "Sorry, I might have dialed the wrong number."
Did Brian give her the wrong number last night? It must be!
But the woman on the other end was aggressive, bellowing, "Stop pretending! What's your relationship with Brian? You even texted him!"
Susanna was taken aback, pondering her status as Brian's partner. Determined to dispel any misconceptions, she promptly stated, "It's not what you assume."
"Not what I think? I saw when you both connected on WhatsApp a couple of months back during Brian's Lindwell business trip. Although you haven't interacted much since then, he's transferred money to you a few times and shared his number with you last night. You're so young, why resort to selling yourself?" the woman accused.
Susanna frowned. "You're the one selling your body! Do you have to be so harsh? You didn't even let me finish! How can you be so sure I'm doing that kind of work?"
The woman on the other end was particularly arrogant. "What else? With Brian's status and looks, he's never short of girls. I've seen many girls like you and dealt with them. I'm warning you, don't dream, he's not a man you can keep."
The woman hung up directly.
Susanna was taken aback. Was that woman Brian's girlfriend? And based on her accusations, was Brian truly a playboy?
She didn't know what to say. Technically, Brian's love life wasn't her business, but was there a big misunderstanding?
Susanna and Brian had added each other on WhatsApp, but they hadn't communicated much. Brian had sent her some money a few times, as encouragement for her competition wins, not as the woman suggested.
After thinking it over, Susanna sent Brian a message: [Brian, there seems to be a misunderstanding. Explain it to your girlfriend.]
But the message didn't go through!
Susanna had been blocked!
