Chapter 573 Gone with the Breeze

Susanna quickly got Charles and Lillian into the car and sped off to the hospital. She was really worried things might take a turn for the worse, so she needed to get the kids there ASAP.

She didn't say a word, but Charles and Lillian could tell something was up. Lillian squeezed her hand and said softly, "Mom, I know Great-Grandma will be okay."

Charles chimed in, "Maybe we should call Michael to check on Great-Grandma. He might know what to do."

Susanna pulled them into a hug and said, her voice cracking, "Maria would be so happy to hear you say that."

They soon arrived at the Abbott Family's private hospital. Susanna took Charles and Lillian up the private elevator. As they stepped out, she saw Aaron standing alone outside the operating room, looking really down.

She had been married to Aaron for five years and knew just how much Maria meant to him. If it hadn't been for Maria pushing for their marriage, Susanna would never have made it into the Abbott Family. She couldn't even imagine how devastated Aaron would be if he lost Maria.

Susanna walked up behind him, unsure of what to say. The red light outside the operating room kept flashing, showing that Maria was still fighting for her life.

Lillian stepped forward and took Aaron's hand, looking up at him and saying, "Great-Grandma will be fine."

Aaron looked down at Lillian's face, and his usually stern expression softened a bit. He turned around and saw Susanna and Charles standing there. It wasn't until he saw them that Aaron really felt Susanna was back with him.

Aaron said, his voice rough, "This morning I told Grandma you all were coming to see her. She was so happy, maybe too happy, and then she fainted because her blood pressure spiked."

Susanna was at a loss for words. She hadn't expected Maria to faint from sheer joy. Soon, the operating room door opened, and both Susanna and Aaron tensed up, bracing for bad news.

The doctor took off his mask and said, "Maria's been stabilized, and her blood pressure is down. As long as she avoids extreme emotions, she should be fine."

Susanna let out a huge sigh of relief. But Maria still needed to stay in the ICU for now, as her condition wasn't completely stable yet.

Susanna took Charles and Lillian to the ICU. Seeing the white-haired Maria lying in bed, she felt a lump in her throat. She silently thought, 'Maria, I brought the kids to see you. I'm sorry I lied to you back then, saying the children were gone.'

After a bit, Aaron walked up to her and said, "You must be exhausted after that long flight. I'll have someone take you back to rest. I'll let you know as soon as Grandma wakes up."

Lillian asked innocently, "Where are we going to stay?"

Susanna figured Aaron meant the house they used to live in when they were married. She looked down at Lillian and said, "We'll visit Madison tonight and stay there." There was no way Susanna could take the kids back to the bridal suite now.

Aaron nodded. "That works. You haven't been back for years. Madison must be eager to see these two kids. I'll have a driver take you there."

Susanna thought for a moment and then looked at Aaron. "Have you heard anything about Vivian?"

"She's still hiding, but if she shows up around the hospital, we'll catch her."

Susanna hesitated and then said, "Did you ask Maria who pushed her down the stairs back then?"

"I asked once, but Grandma said she couldn't remember. The doctors said lying down for so long has affected her memory, so I didn't push her."

"Okay, I get it. But Vivian doesn't know that. When the time comes, we can scare her. She won't dare to deny it."

Susanna left the hospital with the kids. Looking at the familiar yet strange scenery outside the window, she felt a bit uneasy about the place where she had grown up.

Soon, they arrived outside the community where Madison lived. Susanna looked at Charles and Lillian beside her. "I only told Madison I was coming to see her. I didn't mention bringing you two. You have to surprise her when we get there."

Charles nodded. "Don't worry, Mom. I'll be good." He knew that when Susanna was an orphan, it was Madison who had raised her.

Susanna took the kids and knocked on the door. Soon, Madison's cheerful voice came from inside. "I'm coming!"

Madison opened the door wearing an apron. When she saw Susanna, she said happily, "You're finally here. I made your favorite food."

Susanna stood at the door and handed Madison a gift, then said, "If you only made food for me, it might not be enough."

Madison looked behind Susanna. "Did your brother and sister-in-law come too? Why didn't you give me a heads-up? I'll go buy more groceries."

At that moment, Charles and Lillian ran in and hugged Madison's hand, saying, "We don't eat much."

Madison was stunned when she saw them, especially since Lillian looked just like Susanna. Madison rubbed her eyes and said in disbelief, "Are these your kids?"
