Chapter 120 What's More Important Than My Engagement
After hearing this sentence, Erica looked a bit embarrassed, uttering, "Aunt Maud went to make a phone call to inquire."
For some reason, she had a bad feeling.
At this moment, Maud came back, looking suspicious. "It is weird, I can't reach my son on the phone, and I can't contact his assistant either."
Elaine blurted out, "On such an important day, could Aaron be thinking of running away from the wedding?"
When Erica heard the words 'run away from the wedding', she was suddenly panicked.
Erica quickly took out her phone to make a call, but it kept showing no one answering on the other end, a huge panic swept over her. "It's impossible, Aaron just came a while ago; how could he suddenly leave? He must have been delayed by something."
Maud also felt a bit embarrassed and immediately said, "I also think he must have been delayed by something, after all, he came with me just now."
Elaine also realized she misspoke and quickly remedied. "Yes, he's very busy; he must have been delayed by something. Shouldn't we wait a bit longer?"
Erica forced a smile and looked at Elaine and Maud. "Alright, everyone please take your seats. I'll go fix my makeup."
Erica made up an excuse to go to the side and said to her assistant with an unpleasant expression. "Where's Aaron? Send someone to find him, it is a not a big place."
"Okay, I'll go right away." replied the assistant.
Erica stood in place, her eyelids twitching constantly.
Edward walked over. "Where did Aaron go?"
Erica pretended to be calm, answering, "Edward, I've already sent my assistant to look for him, this place isn't that big, we should have news soon."
Edward frowned. "But today is your engagement day, no matter how busy Aaron is, he can't just disappear suddenly and be unreachable. His attitude is really bad."
"Edward, he's very busy with work, I understand it." Erica kept defending for Aaron.
Edward sighed, "As you wish, since this is your choice, I have nothing more to say."
Erica couldn't understand what was so good about Aaron, she couldn't forget him.
But Erica didn't know he had other intentions towards Susanna.
Edward returned to his seat nearby, sitting down, he lowered his voice and looked at Austin, "Where's Susanna? Why haven't I seen her?"
Austin replied, "I'll go ask."
Austin had met the boss of Susanna's studio before, and that man was also present.
Austin stood up and walked towards Dick. "Do you mind chatting over there for a bit?"
Dick responded with pleasure. "I don't mind."
Dick was equally baffled. The man before him was Susanna's brother, wasn't he? Why was he at the Jones' engagement party today, seated among her family no less?
Austin looked around. "Susanna didn't come today?"
"She was supposed to come, but she hasn't shown up yet. I texted her and called her several times. Now her phone is turned off." Dick said truthfully
Dick was actually a bit displeased. Today's engagement party was important for his studio, and it was really embarrassing for Susanna, as a designer, not to show up.
After listening, Austin immediately called Susanna, and her phone indeed showed as switched off.
This wasn't right, why was her phone off?
He looked at Dick and said, "Susanna hasn't replied to your messages at all?"
"She said that she was delayed a bit early before because of an urgency. But it's been hours now, and she still hasn't shown up."
Upon hearing this, Austin felt something was off. Susanna wouldn't just turn off her phone for no reason.
Something must have happened to her.
Austin furrowed his brows. "Did Susanna mention why she was delayed this morning?"
Dick said, "She said she met her foster parents and would be a bit late."
"Grace and Andrew?"
Austin frowned, thinking how shameless they were, coming to bother Susanna again!
Dick tentatively spoke, "There's something I've been wanting to ask you since earlier."
Austin looked over. "What do you want to ask?"
"I don't mean anything else; it's just that seeing you here at the engagement party, I was a bit surprised. Are you related to Mrs. Jones? I haven't heard Susanna mention this before."
When Susanna met Erica, her attitude was also very distant, they didn't seem like relatives.
Austin raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, he almost forgot about it! Originally, they thought Susanna would come today, and there was no need to hide their identities.
But now that Susanna hadn't shown up, things were different.
Austin cleared his throat. "Well, we're distant relatives."
Dick nodded, then said, "Since today's engagement for Mrs. Jones is so important, why haven't her family members shown up?"
Austin spoke calmly, "An engagement isn't a wedding, it's not the most crucial moment yet."
"You're right."
Dick didn't dwell on it too much, given his unfamiliarity with aristocratic family dynamics. Still, he was taken aback by Susanna's familial ties to the Jones family in Novaria.
No wonder the Jones family's daughter specifically wanted Susanna to design the wedding scene.
It turned out they had connection in this aspect!
It seemed that Susanna had been hiding something from him; he needed to work harder to win Susanna over.
Meanwhile, Austin hurriedly walked back to his seat, looking uneasy. "Susanna still hasn't come. I asked her boss, and he said that when Susanna left this morning, she met her foster parents."
Edward said angrily, "I just called Susanna, and it went straight to voicemail. Do you think something happened to Susanna after meeting her foster parents?"
They were all feeling guilty just now, afraid to call Susanna, not even daring to leave the room.
And now Susanna hadn't shown up!
Austin was getting anxious. "I need to go back and check, don't have too high expectations for these bad people."
Edward stood up. "I've asked Aviana to investigate with the property management to check the surveillance, to see what happened on Susanna's side."
They both stood up ready to leave.
Erica hurriedly walked in from outside, looking up at them. "Edward, Arthur, Austin, where are you going?"
Edward looked at her. "Where's Aaron?"
Erica's expression momentarily froze. "I checked the surveillance just now, after he left the villa hall, he just walked away."
Austin snorted, "He really is a man with no responsibility."
Erica clenched her hands tightly. "Austin, I want to know what you guys talked about, why did he just leave like that?"
Since Aaron came today, he would definitely play his role to the end.
She really couldn't understand why Aaron left like that, and why he couldn't be reached by phone.
Austin calmly replied, "We just had a simple conversation, asking him to be devoted to you in the future, not to be entangled with other women outside. Otherwise, I'll make him pay!"
If Aaron dared to have any intentions towards Susanna, he wanted to directly cripple him.
Erica's expression softened a bit, she quickly said, "Aaron must have had something urgent to deal with. Let's eat something and wait a moment."
Edward was a bit anxious. "There's no need to wait; I have something urgent to deal with, so I'll leave first."
Erica's complexion instantly turned pale. "Edward, where are you going now? Is there something more important than my engagement?"
