Chapter 564 Arrogant People Never End Well
Susanna caught Vivian's smug look and shot back, "This party isn't really about you, is it? I don't need your invitation."
Vivian clearly had no clue about humility. It was just a party, but Vivian was acting like she was already the heir to the Richardson family, like she owned everything. Was she really that desperate?
Vivian's face twitched for a second at Susanna's words, but she quickly plastered on a smile. "But today's party is for Ramond. As his mom, I get to decide who gets invited, right?" Vivian was loving this; finally, it was her moment to shine.
Susanna lowered her voice. "You should check out your smug face in a mirror."
"So what, Susanna? You're just jealous, aren't you? You and Amelia have always tried to keep me out of the Richardson family, but you failed."
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "So, throwing a party at my place makes you feel all high and mighty?"
Vivian's expression softened a bit. She didn't want to admit it, but the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel in Novaria was a big deal. Even if she couldn't stand Susanna, she had to have the party here. As long as she could outshine Amelia, that was all that mattered.
Vivian huffed, "It's just a hotel. What's the big deal? I'm still your customer. Shouldn't you be a bit more polite? Or I might tell everyone that hosting a party here is a nightmare."
"If you think it's not good, please let the butler know so we can arrange the cancellation. Our Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel always puts customer satisfaction first. If you're not happy, we'll refund you right away." Susanna's words left Vivian fuming and speechless.
Vivian had only said that to get under Susanna's skin, but she didn't expect Susanna actually had the nerve to tell her to leave like that. No matter what, she definitely wasn't leaving. She had already been humiliated at the last investment dinner; today, she had to reclaim her pride.
"Vivian, don't sink to her level." Susanna caught a whiff of strong perfume and didn't need to guess who it was. Even though Maud had been sent back to her country, Elaine was still hanging around.
Vivian glanced at Elaine. Finally, this fool was useful. Elaine used to look down on her, but now she had to suck up to her to get into Novaria's elite circles. After all, Elaine couldn't snag a good match in Lindwell, so she had to see if any rich family in Novaria would be dumb enough to value the Abbott family's status.
Susanna looked at Elaine. "Remember how you used to look down on Vivian? Now you're kissing up to her because she's on a high? As Ms. Jones of the Abbott family, Elaine, can't you have some self-respect? Don't be so spineless."
Susanna sometimes wondered why Elaine was so different from everyone else in the Abbott family. Not too long ago, Elaine and Vivian were at each other's throats, and now Elaine was acting like a completely different person.
Elaine felt a bit embarrassed and quickly said, "Vivian and I have always been tight. It was you who tried to drive a wedge between us. Now that we've seen your true colors, of course, we're on the same side."
Elaine now knew that if she wanted to stay in Novaria, she had to rely on herself. After all, Maud had been schemed back to her country by Susanna. If Elaine wanted to marry well in Novaria, she had to find a way. She couldn't count on Aaron to help her.
Seeing Elaine's stubbornness, Susanna didn't want to say anything more. She turned to Vivian and said, "Ms. Nguyen, when are you going to inform the butler about your decision to leave? I can arrange it immediately, while the guests haven't all arrived yet. There's still time to switch venues, so it won't affect Ramond's birthday party. Don't you agree?"
Vivian was so angry she was grinding her teeth. She had just wanted to make things difficult for Susanna, not to see her act so arrogant. Who knew Susanna would hold onto it so persistently? At this critical moment, how could she switch venues?
Elaine also looked surprised. "Vivian, are you really going to switch hotels? I support you. There are plenty of hotels in this world, not just the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel. I can't stand Susanna's arrogant attitude. She's just a hotel owner. What's there to brag about?"
Susanna looked over with a mocking smile. "Some people seem to forget how they used to brag in front of me about working with the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel and even shamelessly asked for a party to be arranged. Do all the Abbott family members have amnesia? They forget so quickly?"
The atmosphere instantly became awkward. Elaine felt embarrassed about her past actions. "I didn't know you were the owner of the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel. If I had known, I wouldn't have held any party there. It's not worth it. Vivian, let's tell the butler we won't hold the party here. We don't care about it at all."
Elaine pulled Vivian to leave, but Vivian stopped after a few steps. What nonsense was Elaine spouting?
Vivian didn't want to switch venues. In Novaria, hosting a party at the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel was a way to gain recognition from high society. It was a great opportunity for Ramond. How could she stop Ramond from entering high society?
Susanna looked over with a mocking smile. "Ms. Nguyen, is there anything else you don't understand? The process for leaving is very simple; you don't need to worry."
Vivian had to concede, "I was just joking with you. You didn't take it seriously, did you?"
"Sorry, I take my work very seriously. I hope you don't joke around casually, or it might cause a misunderstanding."
Elaine, standing nearby, was very angry. She rolled her eyes and said, "Vivian, did you invite Susanna today?"
Vivian smiled. "I don't think so."
"Nonsense, Ms. Jones is my honored guest." A voice called out.
