Susanna heard Aaron's usual condescending tone of questioning, his gaze still exactly the same as before.
She flicked her freshly dried hair as she said, "Take a guess."
Aaron noticed her small gesture, her hair tucked behind her ear, and the strap on her shoulder slipping down, revealing a large expanse of skin that glimmered under the warm light.
He was momentarily stunned; he hadn't expected to see that.
His throat moved slightly, and his gaze deepened considerably. 'Is she doing it on purpose?'
However, Susanna seemed completely unaware of her wardrobe malfunction as she looked at the suddenly silent man on the other end of the video. "Is there anything else? If there isn't, I'm hanging up."
"Susanna, you haven't answered my question! Don't think you can seduce me by dressing like that? It wouldn't work even if you stood naked in front of me!"
Susanna was speechless as she thought, 'What am I wearing? This is just ordinary sleepwear.'
She looked down and suddenly noticed that the strap on her shoulder had slipped down. It was visible with a slight movement. Her face instantly turned crimson, and she quickly hung up the video call.
She hurriedly fixed the strap and pulled the blanket over her face.
'That was so embarrassing. Did he think I did it on purpose? He is so shameless!'
Susanna wished she could drag Aaron out and give him a good beating. She comforted herself inwardly, 'I wasn't deliberately dressing like this to seduce him. How thick-skinned! Forget it. In a few months, after I retake my credits, my belly will be bigger, and I will go to Novaria to have the baby. Since I'm leaving anyway, why should I put up with him?'
The next day, Susanna originally planned to go to the hospital for a prenatal checkup, but Austin said he had something to do in the morning and asked her to go in the afternoon.
Now, the only person Susanna trusted was Austin.
If he wasn't there, she wouldn't feel at ease doing the checkup, so she decided to go in the afternoon.
In the morning, Susanna went directly to the private hospital to see Grandma Maria. The old lady had personally commented on the picture she posted on social media yesterday. She thought she should check on the arrangements for Maria's surgery.
After all, Aaron had canceled his engagement with Erica, and she didn't know if the surgery would proceed as scheduled.
Susanna bought fresh flowers and fruits and went to the private hospital. When she reached Grandma Maria's room, she heard voices inside. As she looked up, she saw doctors and nurses in the room. Was there something wrong with Maria?
Susanna's heart raced, and she quickly pushed the door open and walked in. "Hello, Grandma Maria."
When she saw the doctors and nurses in the room, she stopped, because she saw Austin, who was also wearing a white coat.
'So, here is the question. Austin said he had something to do in the morning. I thought he had a surgery scheduled, but he came to the private hospital! Is he planning to switch jobs?' Susanna asked herself.
Austin was stunned when he saw Susanna. He hadn't expected to see her here.
He had come to the private hospital for a routine pre-surgery checkup and consultation. Maria's surgery was very complex, requiring many tests and a detailed surgical plan.
He had specifically taken time in the morning to check on Maria and planned to return in the afternoon for Susanna's prenatal checkup. But he hadn't expected to run into her in Maria's ward.
Austin's expression became unnatural as he thought, 'Oh no, will my identity be exposed today?'
Susanna also felt guilty, wondering, 'Will Austin find out about my relationship with Aaron today?'
The siblings exchanged glances, each with a flickering gaze.
At this moment, Maria broke the silence, smiling and waving at Susanna. "Susanna, you're here. Why are you standing at the door? Come in."
Susanna forced a smile and walked over to Maria, placing the fresh flowers in the vase beside her. She turned to the elderly woman. "How have you been feeling lately?"
"I've been feeling quite well recently. But you look more worn out than the last time I saw you."
Maria held her hand and examined her closely. "Have you been too busy with work and studies?"
Susanna coughed and replied, "Not really. I've actually gained some weight recently."
She had been intentionally controlling her food intake, fearing that eating too much would make her belly too obvious and reveal the existence of the baby.
"Susanna, what do you mean you gained weight? You look even thinner to me. Remember, you're not alone now; you have a little baby in your belly. If work is too tiring, you should quit," Maria said.
Susanna's heart leaped into her throat when she heard that. 'Grandma, please stop talking!'
She knew that running into Austin here would make it impossible to keep things hidden.
Sure enough, Maria had mentioned the baby, and now she was in trouble. How could she hide it from Austin now?
Susanna, feeling helpless, replied, "Grandma, it's not tiring."
"Silly child, it's not that I don't want you to work, but your situation is different now that you're pregnant. You should get lots of rest. After you have the baby, you can go back to work. Aaron can get you a designer position in the company. As the mistress of the Abbott family, no one would dare to say anything to you."
Susanna completely gave up resisting when she heard that.
It was useless for her to try to salvage the situation now,. Grandma Maria had exposed her secret in front of Austin.
Susanna didn't even dare to look at Austin's expression; she was a bit scared!
