Chapter 498 Not Everyone Has Six Brothers to Back Them Up
Amelia shot Susanna a jealous look and said, "Man, I wish I had six brothers who treated me like gold. Your family’s awesome for not playing favorites between boys and girls."
Amelia always dreamed of having brothers who’d have her back.
Susanna gave a sheepish grin and said, "Hey, not all dads are like that. Don’t be so down."
Growing up as an orphan was rough for her, but since she got back with the Jones family, life had been smooth sailing.
Amelia nodded, "Let’s hit the mall. I heard DivineDynasty dropped some new bags. Wanna check 'em out?"
Susanna perked up at the mention of DivineDynasty. She had planned to bump into Vivian there anyway, so this was perfect.
They hopped in the elevator and headed to the top-floor boutique.
Susanna glanced at her phone and saw a message from her secretary: [Vivian’s on her way, should be there in 30 minutes.]
She slipped her phone back into her bag, cool as a cucumber.
Vivian had dangled a partnership with the Abbott family in front of Owen, but Susanna was ready to squash that dream.
At the DivineDynasty store, Susanna and Amelia settled in. Susanna helped Amelia pick out some outfits while the staff laid out the latest bags.
Amelia was in a funk, but trying on new clothes lifted her spirits a bit.
Soon enough, Vivian strutted in with her servant.
Vivian barked at the staff, "Show me the latest bags."
The staff hesitated, "Sorry, Ms. Nguyen, we’ve only got one left, and someone else is looking at it. If they pass, it's all yours to look at."
Vivian fumed, "I’m a super VIP here. I get first dibs. Why should I wait?"
Her servant chimed in, "Yeah, Ms. Nguyen’s a top-tier VIP. She shouldn’t have to wait. Bring the bag out now. If she doesn’t want it, then others can have a shot."
Vivian adjusted her clothes, looking all smug.
She used to be green with envy over Susanna’s super VIP card.
Now that she had one too, she wasn’t about to play nice. The staff looked stressed and said, "I’m really sorry, but those customers were here first. It’s tough for me to step in now."
The servant slapped the staff and snarled, "Just do your job. Who do you think you are, talking back to a super VIP? If you won’t do it, get lost and find someone who will."
Vivian watched with a smirk, feeling pretty pleased with herself.
Back in the day, she’d have been the one trying to smooth things over.
She used to be the one getting pushed around, and now that the tables had turned, it felt like sweet justice.
Vivian looked down at the slapped staff member and said, all high and mighty, "If you bring me the bag now, I’ll let this slide. You can keep your job, and I won’t file a complaint."
Her servant jumped in, "You hear that? Ms. Nguyen’s being generous. Get the bag now, or you might be out of a job."
The new staff member was flustered, her face red from the scolding.
She was new and really needed this job to pay next month’s rent. She’d never dealt with a super VIP before and had no clue how to handle this mess.
She didn’t expect today’s VIP to be such a nightmare, even slapping people around.
The staff turned to the VIP area and nervously approached Susanna, "I’m really sorry, ma’am. Are you done checking out this bag? If you’re still deciding, would you mind another customer takes a look?"
Susanna looked at the new staff member, surprised, and smiled, "You’re new here, huh?"
The staff member awkwardly replied, "Yes, I’ve only been here three months. If I’ve done anything wrong, please let me know."
Susanna noticed the fresh slap mark on the staff member’s face.
Susanna asked, "What happened to your face? Who hit you?"
The staff member covered her face and quickly apologized, "I’m sorry to embarrass you. I fell, no one hit me."
She couldn’t admit anything now, or things might get worse, and no one would back her up.
Amelia stepped in, "It’s pretty obvious there’s a handprint on your face. Did the customer outside who wanted to see this bag hit you? How can anyone be so arrogant these days?"
Just as Amelia finished, Vivian’s servant stormed in.
She yelled at Amelia, "What nonsense are you spouting? This staff member doesn’t know the rules. Ms. Nguyen is a super VIP and has priority. If the staff member is slow and uncooperative, she has every right to teach her a lesson. Hitting her was actually to help her, so she wouldn’t offend customers in the future and get fired."
Amelia didn’t hesitate and slapped the servant.
Amelia said, "I’m slapping you to teach you a lesson, so you don’t embarrass yourself and offend someone, getting sued for slander and ending up in jail."
The servant was furious but, seeing Amelia decked out in designer clothes, figured she was also loaded and didn’t dare say anything.
The servant turned and called out, "Ms. Nguyen."
"What is it?"
Vivian finally walked in.
The servant ran over, crying, "Ms. Nguyen, I was standing up for you, and she dared to hit me, clearly not respecting you."
Vivian recognized Amelia the moment she saw her.
After all, she had stayed at Owen’s house and had done her homework on his family.
She knew Amelia was Owen’s only daughter, treated like a princess and groomed as an heir, having studied abroad and recently returned.
Seeing Amelia, Vivian’s face twisted with jealousy.
They were both Owen’s daughters. She grew up with nothing, while Amelia had it all.
Why was life so unfair?
She had always wanted to meet Amelia, but didn’t expect it to happen like this.
When Amelia saw Vivian, her face darkened, and she exclaimed, "It’s you!"
