Chapter 271 She Is Not Someone Who Can Be Bullied Easily
Susanna forced a polite smile. "These are nothing compared to you, Jack."
Lucy couldn't help but chime in, "So what if Susanna got first place? I heard she dropped out of college for a guy and only has a high school diploma now. What company would hire someone like that?"
Juniper added, "Yeah, a degree is the key to success."
Lucy, sounding concerned, said, "Susanna, it's such a shame. You had great grades and got into a top university, but you dropped out for a guy. With a degree and this award, finding a great job would've been easy."
"Who said Susanna only has a high school diploma?" Flandre walked in, scolding Lucy. "Susanna's been preparing for exams. Once she passes, she'll get her diploma."
"That's impossible. She dropped out years ago. How could she just go back?"
"Just because you can't do it doesn't mean she can't. Susanna's back at school and will graduate from a top university. Unlike some people with just a high school diploma, acting all superior."
Lucy got angry. "Flandre, are you saying I only have a high school diploma? I've been studying abroad at a prestigious university in Novaria."
Juniper boasted, "Yeah, Lucy's studying abroad. She's not like Susanna."
Flandre sneered, "Must've cost a lot, right?"
Lucy shifted uncomfortably. "Well, my family's well off. Jealous, Flandre?"
Susanna quietly pulled Flandre's sleeve, shaking her head. "Forget it, no need to argue."
"Susanna, I'm just standing up for you. You haven't been to reunions, so you don't know how they talk behind your back. I'm here to set the record straight," Flandre said.
Lucy, angry, said, "Susanna, I heard you dropped out for a guy. The teachers felt sorry for you. Are you still with him?"
Susanna paused, then replied, "No."
"So, you're divorced now? It's tough for a divorced woman to date again. Need me to set you up?" Lucy feigned kindness.
Susanna half-smiled. "No need, we're not that close."
Juniper mocked, "Don't be ungrateful. The guys Lucy knows are pretty good. Don't miss out."
Flandre couldn't hold back. "Susanna doesn't care about that. She doesn't need money and is happy on her own."
'Does the heir of the Jones family need any man?' Flandre thought.
Lucy laughed, covering her mouth. "So, you're saying Susanna's living it up with some rich old guy? That's not a long-term plan. Ouch, why did you splash water on me?"
Susanna casually put down her cup. "I was just trying to clean up your language."
Lucy stood up, angry. "Susanna, do you know this outfit is designer? Can you afford it?"
Flandre snorted, "Who told you to spread rumors? You deserved it."
"Rumors? What rumors? I saw an old man in a luxury car drop her off and give her a designer bag. It's the one she's holding. Everyone knows Susanna's an orphan. Where'd she get the money for that?" Lucy shot back.
Susanna's gaze turned icy. "He's my personal driver, Elliot."
"Personal driver? Are you nuts? Susanna just said she found her rich family! Who'd believe that?" Lucy scoffed, not buying Susanna's story.
Flandre snapped, "Lucy, does Susanna finding her wealthy biological parents bother you? Whether you like it or not, it's the truth!"
"Where's the proof? You say her parents are rich. How can we believe that?" Lucy pressed on.
Susanna pulled Flandre back. "Forget it, no need to explain. They can believe what they want."
Jim jumped in, "I bet everyone's starving. How about we order some food?"
Jack quickly agreed, "Yes, let's order. Let's celebrate Susanna's family reunion!"
The classmates joined in the congratulations, except for Lucy, who fumed silently. She couldn't believe Susanna's supposed wealth and suspected she was just living off some sugar daddy. But with Jack around, Lucy held back, not wanting to ruin her image.
Lucy handed the menu to Susanna. "You order. With your past financial situation, you probably never ate at a place like this."
Susanna looked puzzled. Brian had said the food here was average and had given her a membership card. She didn't see what made this place special.
Jack smiled, "Susanna, order whatever you like. Don't feel pressured."
Susanna glanced at Flandre. "Let's order together."
Since she was here, she couldn't go hungry. Moreover, she was pregnant and needed to eat well.
Susanna looked at the menu and ordered two dishes from the first page. As soon as she put it down, Lucy mocked, "Susanna, why those two dishes?"
Susanna looked surprised. "What's wrong with them?"
"Susanna, it's understandable if you've never dined here. The first page is for super VIPs only. Regular folks like us can't even touch those," Lucy said.
Susanna paused but remembered she had the super VIP card from Brian. He had mentioned only two dishes were worth trying, so she confidently ordered them.
Flandre retorted, "What's so special about that?"
Jack's expression turned a bit awkward. "These are just marketing gimmicks. We don't need to take them seriously."
Lucy sarcastically added, "Jack is always so sweet to Susanna. Some people pretend to be rich, but their true colors show during a meal, don't they?"
The waiter came over, took the menu, and respectfully asked Susanna, "Is there anything else you need?"
Lucy immediately told the waiter, "You're asking the wrong person. The host is over here!"
