Chapter 246 Let's Get Divorced Right Away

Susanna glanced at the door and saw Aaron's shadow. She was stunned, not expecting him. She met his gaze but couldn't read his expression.

Aaron walked in slowly, his suit jacket draped over his arm. He looked like he just came from the Abbott Group in his white shirt and black pants.

Maria looked at Aaron. "Why aren't you saying anything?"

Susanna lowered her eyes, avoiding his gaze. The tension was thick despite their earlier agreement.

"Susanna, come with me." Aaron grabbed her wrist and led her out of the ward before she could react.

His strides were long, and Susanna had to jog to keep up. "Aaron, what do you want to say?"

Aaron stopped and turned to her. "Have you thought about what would happen if you told Grandma the truth and she couldn't handle it? She's still in the hospital!"

"But we agreed I'd explain everything to Maria. Now you look like I did something wrong," Susanna retorted.

She shook off his hand. "Aaron, do you really think lying to Maria is good for her?"

Aaron's lips tightened. "I didn't think you'd rush it. Are you worried delaying the divorce will mess up your plans to go abroad?"

Susanna laughed angrily. "Believe what you want. I've already explained everything to Maria."

"And the child?"

"I said the pregnancy was fake."

"Don't you think it's too much to lie about that?" Aaron pressed.

Susanna was speechless. She had no choice but to tell Maria she wasn't really pregnant.

"Why aren't you saying anything?" Aaron's mocking voice came from above her. Susanna's eyes filled with angry tears. She was furious at Aaron and herself for always being on the verge of tears in front of him.

"Aaron, who gave you the right to talk to Susanna like that?" Maria's angry voice rang out.

Susanna turned in shock to see Maria at the door. She felt flustered.

Maria, leaning on a cane, walked over and looked up at Aaron. "Is this how you treat Susanna in private?" she demanded.

Aaron's lips tightened. "Grandma, how much did you hear?"

"How dare you ask? Isn't the last sentence enough? How many more harsh words did you say to Susanna?"

Susanna saw Maria was very angry and quickly grabbed her hand. "Grandma, calm down, don't get angry."

"How can I not be angry? Susanna, I thought staying with the Abbott family would give you a better life, but I didn't expect this. You've been wronged." Maria patted her hand, her eyes reddening.

"Grandma, let's go back to the ward and talk, okay?" Susanna suggested quickly, seeing how unsteady Maria was.

Maria nodded but wobbled after a few steps. Aaron stepped forward to support her. "Grandma, be careful," he said gently.

"I don't need your concern!" Maria snapped, slapping his hand away. "I didn't expect you to be such a jerk."

Susanna was shocked by Maria's anger. She helped Maria back into the ward without saying a word.

Once Maria sat down, Susanna handed her a cup of hot cocoa. "Grandma, calm down."

"Susanna, it's my fault. I shouldn't have insisted on keeping you in the Abbott family. It's been three years, and there's no affection between you two. It's best to get a divorce and start fresh now that you've found your family," Maria said.

Susanna was stunned by Maria's understanding and support for the divorce. Aaron was also caught off guard, glancing at Susanna with a tight-lipped expression.

Now that there was no Maria as a excuse, Susanna would be even more determined. Aaron's mood darkened; he had expected Maria to oppose the divorce.

Maria looked at Aaron, holding her coffee cup steadily. "Aaron, today is a workday. You two should head to Family Court and set up an appointment for the divorce. There's a one-month cooling-off period now. The sooner you start, the sooner you'll both be free."

Susanna was dumbfounded. "Grandma, we actually already made the appointment for the divorce. But then you had surgery, and with everything that happened, we just never got around to it."

She felt Aaron's piercing gaze behind her but refused to turn around. With Maria's support, there was nothing left to worry about.

Maria gently took Susanna's hand. "You postponed it because you were worried about my surgery, right?"

Susanna nodded. "Grandma, your health is far more important than the divorce."

Maria smiled warmly, squeezing Susanna's hand. "Sweetheart, I always knew you had a good heart. It's a shame Aaron doesn't appreciate what he has. Now that I'm aware, there's no need for you two to keep up any pretenses around me anymore."

Susanna felt guilty. "I'm sorry, Grandma."

"You don't need to apologize. It was my fault for causing you to waste three years. Time is precious. Get a divorce soon and go live with your family in Novaria," Maria said.

Aaron's eyes flashed with a complex look, knowing Sam still hadn't found out Susanna's biological parents' background.

Susanna looked at Maria gratefully. "Once I'm settled there, I'll come back to visit you often. We can also video call."

"I know." Maria patted her hand and then looked at Aaron. "By the way, if you and Susanna get divorced, how will the property be divided?"
