Chapter 66 She Doesn't Care Anymore
Susanna looked at him incredulously. She thought to herself, 'Prenatal examination? Did Aaron become suspicious?'
"Did you forget that you are pregnant now? It's a prenatal examination arranged by Maria, just for show," Aaron explained.
Susanna was relieved. "It doesn't have to be so troublesome. I'll tell Maria that I had the prenatal examination yesterday."
"No, Maria will definitely ask to see the examination results and the ultrasound report. So, you have to do the examination here," Aaron insisted.
Susanna became a little flustered. "This is the Abbott family hospital. Can't you have someone fake the results?"
Suddenly, Aaron approached her and grabbed her shoulder, lowering his voice. "Do you see Taylor over there?"
Susanna looked up and saw Taylor, her eyes filled with confusion. "What happened?"
"Taylor told Maria that you didn’t attend school for the past few days. Maria probably suspects there was a problem between us, so she came up with the reason for the prenatal examination to bring you here," Aaron explained.
Susanna lowered her eyelids. She asked, "Am I just acting, going through the examination process?"
"Yes, what else did you think?" Aaron said.
Susanna nodded. "Okay."
Anyway, when she went into the examination room later, Taylor wouldn't follow her in, and the final result would be determined by Aaron.
Susanna followed the doctor to the examination room downstairs and only went through the process.
There was another woman in the room with her, and she was a real pregnant woman, not Susanna. The result she received should be from that woman. It seemed Aaron had everything arranged.
An hour later, Susanna left the examination room and went upstairs to visit Maria.
Maria held her hand, and she said, "Susanna, you've gotten thin. After getting pregnant, you don't have to work so hard. You can directly order Aaron to do things for you. Now that you're pregnant, you can order him. Otherwise, men will think it's so easy to be a dad, which is much too convenient for them."
"Okay, Maria, I will," Susanna assured her.
Maria was happy with Susanna's answer. And Susanna reminded Maria, "You must eat well and cooperate with the doctors for the surgery."
"I know. After all, I want to see your baby born. I can't bear to leave so early," Maria said.
Susanna saw that Maria wasn't feeling very well, so she didn't linger for long.
After she and Aaron left the ward, Susanna finally spoke up. "When does the surgery start?"
"At the end of the month," Aaron replied.
She nodded and looked up at him. "Congratulations on your engagement to Miss Jones. But I suggest keeping it low-key so Maria doesn't find out."
"I don't need you to remind me," Aaron said calmly.
"Right, you've always been good at keeping secrets. I'll go now." Susanna said. Then she turned around and looked up at the hallway ceiling, hiding all her thoughts.
Aaron stood in place, his hand hanging in the air, and clenched his fist in an instant.
"Wait," Aaron said.
Susanna paused, her eyelashes trembling slightly, adjusting her expression as she turned around. "What's up?"
They stared silently at each other, her heart beating faster, wondering what Aaron wanted to say.
Aaron pursed his thin lips, wanting to tell her about his fake engagement with Erica.
The elevator door opened, and a middle-aged lady walked out.
Maud had a smile on her face, but it turned cold when she saw Susanna. "Why are you here again? I warn you not to speak any nonsense in front of Maria."
Susanna replied calmly, "Don't worry, I won't. I hope Maria can have a successful surgery more than anyone else."
"Well, at least you still have a conscience." After Maud finished speaking, she looked at Aaron.
"Aaron, Erica said her brother has arrived in Lindwell. Let's have dinner together tonight and discuss your engagement. After all, the Abbott family and the Jones family are not ordinary people. Your engagement should be well negotiated." Maud suggested.
Aaron looked at Susanna expressionlessly. But Susanna never turned around. A note of self-mocking flashed in his eyes. Actually, Susanna didn't care whether he was engaged to Erica or not. After all, she had found a new boyfriend and was even dating two men.
In fact, this was a good outcome for him. At least Susanna wouldn't bug him anymore. But Aaron wasn't as happy as he had imagined.
Maud angrily looked at Susanna. "You should come here less often. Aaron is engaged to Miss Jones from the Jones family. They are a suitable couple."
Susanna tugged at the corner of her mouth. "I know, you don't need to repeat it so many times. I nearly thought you were a tape recorder."
After she finished speaking, she glanced at Aaron again. They locked eyes. Susanna's gaze was unwavering.
The elevator door closed, cutting off his sharp and intimidating stare.
Susanna leaned against the side of the elevator, laughing self-deprecatingly. After the surgery at the end of the month, all of this would be over.
Susanna returned home with a heavy heart but saw Austin coming out of the kitchen. "Susanna, I made soup for you. The test results show that you are slightly malnourished."
Susanna quickly grabbed Austin's arm. "Keep your voice down."
"No worries, Madison isn't home," said Austin.
"That's good," Susanna sighed in relief. "Austin, is there a problem with the prenatal test results?"
"The fetus is fine. The biggest issue is that you're malnourished. Try this," Austin said, pointing to the soup on the table. Susanna took a bite and found it delicious.
She glanced at the table. "Austin, your phone is ringing again. Do you have work?"
Austin picked up his phone and looked at it briefly. It was Erica calling.
He calmly set the phone back down. "I get a lot of calls during work hours, and sometimes I just want to rest a bit after work."
"But what if it's something urgent?" Susanna added.
"If it's urgent, they can call me on the hospital landline," Austin said.
Austin knew why Erica was calling him, but he had no intention of performing that surgery. There were other doctors in the world. He also didn't want Erica to marry Aaron or have any connection between the Jones family and the Abbott family.
Susanna didn't think much about it either, as she enjoyed the meal Austin had made. She had been worried that she wouldn't be able to give birth to a child. But now, with Austin helping her, she felt much more at ease.
Austin calmly glanced at his phone. There were many missed calls, but he still didn't answer.
Austin got a bit annoyed. He had made it clear to Erica why he wouldn't do the surgery, so he didn't understand why Erica wouldn't let go of Aaron.
Austin thought to himself, 'Were the Abbott family's men really that charming? Aaron, a divorced man, even had intentions toward Susanna, deliberately sending her to the hospital and even arranging for a caregiver. This playboy was not a suitable marriage partner at all!'
Erica's phone was almost out of battery. But still, no one answered the calls.
Erica stood outside the private room in the restaurant, her face pale with anxiety. She asked the assistant, "Why isn't Austin answering the phone? Did you go to the hospital to look for him?"
