Chapter 487 The Cover Is About to Be Blown
Betsy was acting all high and mighty just now, and Susanna totally forgot Charles was right there, soaking up the drama.
Susanna was kicking herself for dragging Charles to the entrance to watch the chaos unfold!
If Charles hadn't tagged along, he wouldn't have bumped into Aaron, and Aaron wouldn't have spotted him!
So, what now?
Charles stood nearby, eyeing Aaron's tall frame. First time seeing the guy in the flesh.
He'd only seen Aaron in vids or pics before.
Charles kept his cool, eyes locked on Aaron with a mix of defiance and swagger.
His little face was all kinds of proud.
Aaron noticed the kid, who looked kinda familiar.
Aaron could feel the kid's hostility and frowned, saying, "This is grown-up stuff, kid. Stay out of it."
Charles got all riled up and said, "Why can't I care about her? She's..."
Before he could finish, Susanna stepped in and clamped her hand over Charles's mouth, making sure he didn't spill anything he shouldn't.
Susanna turned to Aaron and said, "He's been a rebel since he was little, Mr. Abbott. Don't take it out on a kid."
Then she looked down at Charles in her arms and said, "You should go back with the nurses now. I'll come find you to play after I handle this, okay?"
Charles looked at her and stubbornly shook his head.
Susanna felt a headache coming on. Charles was always stubborn, just like Aaron. She didn't know how to handle this mess.
Right then, Michael rushed in with some folks and went straight to Susanna. He asked, all concerned, "Susanna, you okay? Did you get hurt?"
Seeing Michael, Susanna breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I'm fine, but some girl from Emerald Island barged into the lab with bodyguards today and messed up the security team. So I had them all sent to the cops."
"I know. I heard about it on the way here. Don't worry about the police; I'll handle it. I'm just worried about you. I heard you had a scuffle and got pushed down. You hurt?"
"I really didn't get hurt, I'm fine," she replied.
Michael looked at her with guilt and said, "I'm sorry. I didn't know Betsy would pull something like this. If I had known, I would've set her straight last night."
Susanna was surprised and said, "You met her last night? Were you on a blind date with her?"
Michael coldly replied, "I never agreed to any blind date. It was just a coincidence last night. I didn't expect her to claim to be my fiancée and storm into the lab. I don't have a relationship with any woman."
Susanna coughed and, thinking quickly, handed Charles's hand to Michael. "I got stuff to deal with now. Take Charles inside."
Michael grabbed Charles's hand, shot a look at Aaron, and his face shifted.
They were rivals, so yeah, they didn't exactly get along.
Charles clung to Michael's hand and glared up at Aaron, saying, "Nobody wants you here. I don't like you. Get lost."
Susanna was at a loss after hearing Charles's bold words.
She glanced at Aaron, worried he might catch on. After all, Charles did have a bit of Aaron's look.
That's why Susanna had always tried to keep Aaron in the dark about Charles.
Aaron furrowed his brow at Charles's words, thinking, 'Who is this kid anyway? He looks sharp but seems to hate me. Have I seen him before? Why does he look so familiar?'
Aaron thought for a moment, then turned to Susanna and said, "Step outside with me for a sec."
Susanna shot a quick look at Michael and Charles, exchanged a silent message with Charles through eye contact, and said, "I'll be right back."
Charles kept a stern face, clearly unhappy. He didn't want Aaron to take Susanna away.
But when he tried to speak, Michael squeezed his hand, signaling him to stay quiet.
Charles reluctantly shut his mouth and watched as Aaron and Susanna left the lab.
He looked up at Michael and said, "Michael, why'd you let Mommy go out to talk to him alone? I don't want them together."
Michael patted Charles's head and said, "Don't you want to be with your real dad?"
"I don't want to acknowledge him. I have six uncles and you. I don't need a biological father."
Michael squatted in front of Charles and said seriously, "What if I were with your mommy?"
"Michael, are you finally admitting you like my mommy? It's been four years. I thought you could wait forever."
Michael gave a bitter smile. He had planned to wait for Susanna to regain her memory and heal before dealing with their relationship.
But he didn't expect Aaron to show up in Susanna's life again.
Charles, sounding way too mature for his age, said, "Michael, so you're only making a move because a rival showed up?"
Michael nodded and said, "Sort of."
Aaron's appearance made Michael feel uneasy. Especially now that he knew Susanna had regained her memory and remembered everything that happened with the Abbott family four years ago.
This also meant Susanna remembered her feelings for Aaron.
If he didn't act now, he might lose Susanna again.
He had protected Susanna for four years and didn't want to give her up.
Charles looked up and said, "I believe in you. Go for it!"
Outside the lab entrance.
Susanna looked at Aaron and said, "What do you want to talk about? And what are you doing here? Are you following me?"
"Who was that little boy just now?"
