Chapter 587 Vivian, This Time You Can't Escape
Aaron glanced out the window, then locked eyes with Lillian, who looked super excited. Susanna chimed in, "Lillian, it's getting late."
Plus, Aaron probably wasn't feeling the amusement park vibe today. But then, out of nowhere, Aaron scooped Lillian up. "Let's go, I'll take you out for some fun."
Susanna watched them leave and let out a quiet sigh. Charles looked up at her. "Come on, Mom. You know Lillian loves to play."
Susanna replied, "But today isn't really the best day for the amusement park."
"That's not necessarily true; you're not him."
Susanna thought about it and realized Charles had a point. She looked at him and said, "I'm just worried you might get upset. You always act so stubborn."
"I'm not."
"Then who is?"
Charles thought for a moment and said, "If his background gets exposed, will he lose everything and become just an ordinary guy?"
Susanna saw the smug look in Charles' eyes and paused before saying, "It's possible. After all, he just promised to give all his assets to Maud. Soon, he might really be broke, unable to afford expensive gifts, and won't be able to take you to pricey amusement parks."
Charles looked calm. "Then today, let's make him spend a lot of money."
They headed to the amusement park, and Lillian practically stuck to Aaron the whole time. Aaron was super patient, going on all the rides with Lillian, even the carousel.
Charles, determined to make Aaron spend big, bought almost everything in the park and ate everything he could. Susanna noticed Charles' behavior but didn't say anything, seeing that Aaron seemed more than willing to spend the money.
After they finished playing, Lillian fell asleep in Aaron's arms. Back in the car, Susanna held Charles, and before long, he also fell asleep. The two adults each held a sleeping child.
Susanna looked at the kids, feeling a bit conflicted. Parents really did have a huge impact on their kids. It was clear that Lillian loved hanging out with Aaron.
They didn't talk the whole way back. When they got to Madison's house, Aaron was the first to get out of the car with Lillian in his arms.
Susanna carefully held Charles and suddenly realized he had gotten much heavier; it was a bit of a struggle to carry him. A nearly five-year-old kid was definitely different from when they were younger.
"Let me." Aaron opened the car door and stood in front of Susanna, extending his hand.
Susanna raised an eyebrow and whispered, "Can you manage?"
The next second, Aaron took Charles from her arms, holding a kid in each arm. Susanna was stunned, marveling at the strength difference between men and women.
Although it was a bit of a struggle for Aaron to carry both Charles and Lillian, he didn't feel tired. Despite the short distance, Aaron wished the walk could be longer.
When Madison opened the door and saw Aaron carrying Charles and Lillian, she looked relieved. She thought, 'Kids really do need their dads.'
Aaron gently laid them on the bed. Lillian kept snoozing away, but Charles wasn't in a deep sleep. He woke up when Aaron picked him up but decided to pretend he was still asleep to avoid any awkwardness.
Susanna glanced at Charles and Lillian, then quietly closed the door. She noticed Aaron's forehead was sweaty.
Madison handed him a glass of water. "Here, have a drink."
"Thanks." Aaron took a sip. "I should get going."
Susanna watched him head for the door and said, "Don't let Maud's words get to you."
Aaron paused. "She was just being honest."
Susanna watched him leave but didn't follow. She hadn't expected Maud to know about Aaron's background all along. How had Maud felt facing Aaron all these years?
Madison came over to Susanna. "What's going on? Mr. Abbott doesn't seem too happy."
Susanna replied, "Nothing much, we just went to the amusement park today. The kids had a blast."
Madison hesitated. "Susanna, you and Mr. Abbott?"
"Don't read too much into it. There's nothing between us. Today was just a typical father-child outing, that's all."
"Susanna, I think Mr. Abbott has changed a lot. Maybe you should give it some thought?"
Susanna stood up. "It's late. I'm heading to bed."
Madison could only sigh. That night, Aaron went to the hospital and stood outside the ward for a long time.
He hadn't expected Maud to already know about his background. At that moment, he even felt a bit disgusted with his origins. After watching for a while, he turned and left.
Not long after, Vivian, dressed as a nurse, came out. She watched Aaron's departing figure, her eyes growing colder. She thought, 'Just wait. I won't let this go.'
Vivian turned and walked into the ward, looking at Maria lying in bed with a respirator. Her features looked very aged and had changed a lot.
She spoke coldly, "Maria, how does it feel to be bedridden and unable to move for the past five years? Back then, I asked for a bit of mercy and some living expenses for my child and me. But you refused. How could you live so long while standing in my way?"
Vivian recalled the humiliation she suffered five years ago when she went to the Abbott Family, and her heart filled with hatred.
She looked at the frail Maria. "I wish you were dead; you're just a nuisance alive. If you had agreed to let me return to the Abbott Family earlier, none of this would have happened, right?"
Vivian removed Maria's respirator and watched her struggle, sneering, "It's your own fault. In your next life, remember to be a good person and don't look down on others."
The next second, the door was flung open. Aaron stood at the door with a dark expression. "Vivian, it was you who pushed Grandma down the stairs back then."
"Aaron, what are you doing here?" Vivian was so scared she collapsed.
