Chapter 540 A Slap
Susanna spotted Elaine coming over, her eyebrows arching a bit. Why did she get the feeling something juicy was about to go down?
Amelia felt really uncomfortable with how fast Vivian had switched up her dress.
Susanna gave Amelia's hand a reassuring pat. "I think we're in for some entertainment."
Amelia looked puzzled. What was happening?
Susanna filled her in, "Vivian lived with the Abbott Family for five years. You know how Elaine is; she must've bullied, ignored, and looked down on her a lot."
Knowing Elaine, Susanna figured she'd be green with envy and might pull something unexpected after looking down on Vivian for so long.
Vivian, feeling pretty smug, had just slipped into a new dress and was ready to flaunt it in front of Amelia. Owen had set her up with an assistant and a fresh outfit, which came in handy.
But who would've guessed that idiot Elaine would show up at today's party too?
What a twist of fate.
It seemed like the universe was still on her side, letting her bump into someone from the Abbott Family on her big debut day.
Vivian shot Elaine a haughty look. "Yep, it's me. Long time no see."
The last time she ran into someone from the Abbott Family was at a charity event hosted by Amelia.
Back then, she saw Maud and wanted to show off, but the bodyguards kicked her out.
But now things were different. Owen had accepted her, and she was now the President's daughter.
When she was with the Abbott Family, she was always looked down on, especially by Elaine, who was also a leech but always acted superior.
But now, the tables had turned. She was Owen's daughter, and Elaine was still a nobody.
Elaine looked stunned as she eyed Vivian's dress. "That looks new and pricey. When did you start affording such fancy stuff?"
Vivian adjusted her designer dress and fiddled with the branded ring on her finger, speaking in a braggy tone. "It's just some clothes and jewelry. They are not that expensive. I got my dress dirty earlier, so I changed into a new one."
Elaine was instantly annoyed.
Vivian used to cling to the Abbott Family, hoping to marry Aaron.
Back then, nobody liked Vivian, so Elaine knew she'd never marry into the Abbott Family and didn't take her seriously, instead enjoying Vivian's constant attempts to please her.
But who would've thought that Vivian not only got out of prison but also seemed to be doing well?
Elaine snapped, "Aren't you just someone's kept woman now? What's there to brag about? You used to act all high and mighty, but now your true colors are showing."
Vivian smirked, "Elaine, you better watch your mouth. Do you think everyone is like you, still the same low-class person after all this time?"
"Who are you calling low-class? I'm from the Abbott Family. With your background, how dare you compare yourself to me? What gives you the right to lecture me?"
Elaine had always looked down on Vivian, and now being lectured by her was just too much to handle.
Plus, she was here for a matchmaking event, and a bunch of people had already praised her and wanted to set her up with their sons.
If she married into a rich family in Novaria, she'd be living the high life.
But Vivian, who climbed up by relying on a man, had no right to lecture her.
Vivian's face turned red with anger, and she gritted her teeth. "Don't underestimate me. I've found my family now. I'm not the same person you used to push around."
"What do you mean you've found your family? Do you think this is some TV drama? You think you can just turn around and become the heir to a wealthy family like Susanna did with the Jones family? What a joke."
Elaine turned to Maud. "Maud, come check this out. Vivian says she's found her family and that I'm not worthy of being compared to her. Isn't that hilarious? This is the funniest thing I've heard all year."
Maud walked over, also surprised to see Vivian.
She had heard that Vivian had some connection with Owen and that Vivian's release from prison was thanks to Owen.
Since their encounter at Amelia's party, Maud had suspected that Vivian was being kept by Owen.
Earlier, she had talked to some wealthy ladies and found out that Vivian was actually Owen's illegitimate daughter.
Although Owen claimed that Vivian was the daughter of an old friend and treated her as his own, no one believed it. This was a common tactic used by wealthy families to deal with illegitimate children.
Out of respect for Owen, Maud said in a mild tone, "Elaine, you need to speak politely. You can't just shout like that."
Although she also looked down on Vivian's status as an illegitimate daughter, Owen was here today, and she couldn't be disrespectful.
Elaine, feeling indignant, said, "Maud, I was doing fine earlier, but now I'm facing Vivian. I don't need to be nice to her. Who knows what connections she used to get into today's party? That man must be quite capable."
"Shut up, Elaine. Who told you to speak like that?" Maud thought Elaine was an idiot. She was here for a matchmaking event, and if people saw her as ill-mannered, how could she get married in the future?
"Maud, why are you yelling at me? Vivian caused you so much trouble before. Have you forgotten? If it weren't for her, you wouldn't be on probation."
Maud's face darkened. If she didn't know that Vivian was Owen's illegitimate daughter, she wouldn't be showing her any respect now.
Vivian, furious, said, "I was the one who was wronged, okay? This had nothing to do with me, but I was the one sent to prison. It's completely unfair."
Elaine said, "It's very fair. You were jealous of Susanna's relationship with Aaron and wanted to stop them from getting closer. That's why you came up with those ideas."
Susanna walked over, her tone cold. "Is that true?"
Elaine got more excited. "Yes, but Aaron didn't fall for Vivian's tricks. She clung to the Abbott Family for five years, and Aaron didn't even touch her. It's embarrassing to even talk about it."
Vivian stepped forward and slapped Elaine.
