Chapter 551 Mr. Abbott Transforms into a Considerate Man
Susanna froze when she heard Aaron's voice.
She turned to face him. "Oh, it's nothing, just swamped with work at the office."
"Anything I can do to help?"
Susanna shook her head. "No, it's fine. It's getting late. Mr. Abbott, if there's nothing else, you should probably go."
Aaron caught the hint and smirked. "I'll wait until you're done."
Susanna raised an eyebrow. Couldn't he see she was trying to get rid of him?
But Aaron just stood there, acting like he didn't get it.
She knew he was faking it.
"Look, you saw how crazy today was. I have to work late, and it might be really late. No need for you to wait around."
Aaron sighed, "It's never too late to wait for you."
Susanna was at a loss.
She turned to her secretary. "Let's go."
The secretary looked confused. "Where to?"
Susanna's expression was a bit off. "To work overtime, obviously. With everything that happened today, I need to keep an eye on things."
The secretary nodded slowly. "Oh, got it."
Susanna glanced at her usually sharp but now clueless secretary, wondering why she seemed so dense.
Susanna walked to the office and said to her secretary, "Quinn, you know, as a secretary, if you don't have perfect timing, you could lose your job?"
Quinn Bush looked pitiful. "Ms. Jones, based on your usual schedule, you never work this late. Am I right? Are you avoiding Mr. Abbott?"
Susanna denied it immediately. "Are you kidding me? When have I ever avoided him? Why would I even do that?"
She sat in her chair, unable to focus on the documents, and glanced downstairs to see Aaron standing in the middle of the banquet hall.
He stood there, his tall figure lit up by the lights.
Susanna looked at her secretary. "Go tell him to leave."
Quinn said, "Ms. Jones, I can't do that."
It would be fine if it were someone else, but this was Aaron.
"If you don't go, should I? Or do you want to be the boss?"
Quinn walked away, looking dejected.
Susanna sat alone in the office, watching as Quinn approached Aaron. Soon, Aaron looked up towards the office.
Susanna quickly hid behind the curtains.
Outside, Quinn stood in front of Aaron. "Mr. Abbott, Ms. Jones wants you to leave."
Aaron glanced towards the office, then looked away and asked softly, "Has she eaten dinner?"
Quinn thought Aaron would be mad, but instead, he asked if Susanna had eaten.
Quinn thought for a moment and replied, "She probably hasn't eaten much."
"When the food arrives, make sure everyone gets some. They've all worked hard." After that, Aaron turned and left the banquet hall.
Quinn watched him leave. This feeling of being ordered around was just like Susanna. Why did he think she would cooperate?
Quinn was actually quite curious why Aaron and Susanna divorced back then.
It was clear Aaron still had feelings for Susanna.
She got back to the office, and Susanna's face looked a bit off when she saw her. "Did he leave?"
"Yeah, he's gone."
"He didn't say anything?" Susanna was a bit surprised. Aaron just left like that?
A little while later, Quinn walked in with a fancy meal box. "Ms. Jones, here's some supper. Have a bite."
"How'd you know I was hungry?" Susanna took the meal box and opened it, finding all her favorite foods. She paused and looked at Quinn. "Did you order this?"
"Yeah, everyone working overtime gets one." Quinn didn't expect Aaron to actually send supper. To avoid losing her bonus, she had to say she ordered it.
Susanna saw that the other employees also had the same meal boxes. The thought in her mind subsiding, she casually glanced out the window. Aaron's figure was indeed gone.
After finishing her meal, Susanna told her secretary, "Let everyone go home. Today's pay is doubled."
Susanna left the office with her bag.
As soon as her car left, a black car emerged from the shadows.
Aaron watched her leave and said softly, "Follow her."
Sam, holding an identical meal box, said while eating, "You just left like that? Isn't that giving up halfway? She's clearly avoiding you."
Aaron's voice was deep. "I know, but it's late. I want her to go home and rest. If I don't leave, she won't leave either."
"You're so devoted. It's a pity Susanna doesn't know."
"She doesn't need to." Aaron leaned back in the rear seat, his eyes deep as he watched the car ahead.
An hour later, Susanna's car entered the Jones Family estate.
Aaron only felt relieved after seeing Susanna safely home.
"Aaron, how do you plan to discuss the cooperation with Susanna? If her brothers find out, they definitely won't agree."
"Whether we cooperate or not doesn't matter. As long as she wants to make it in Lindwell, I can clear all obstacles for her." Aaron's tone was calm, but it sounded very arrogant.
But Sam knew Aaron always meant what he said.
After Susanna got home, Lillian handed her a carefully made gift. "Mommy, I made this for Charles. Do you like it?"
"It's beautiful." Susanna touched Lillian's forehead. Seeing Lillian always eased her fatigue.
"Mommy, when will Charles come home?"
"The day after tomorrow. We'll go pick him up together, okay?"
Lillian nodded. "Okay."
"Then go wash up and go to bed early. Do you want me to tell you a story?"
Lillian shook her head. "I'm a grown-up now. I don't need bedtime stories."
Susanna was surprised to see Lillian washing up on her own. When did Lillian become so diligent?
A servant walked over and whispered, "Miss Jones has become much more sensible lately."
Susanna knew Lillian was being diligent because Charles was coming back and that she wanted to take care of him at school.
After putting Lillian to bed, Susanna left her room.
But as soon as she left, Lillian took out her smartwatch and made a call.
Aaron's deep, gentle voice came through. "What's up?"
"I have good news. Charles is coming home the day after tomorrow."
