Chapter 197 Can't Be Polite to Shameless People
Susanna was floored when she heard Dick had been arrested. "What do you mean?"
"Susanna, you're my last hope. Since Dick got locked up, the Epic Horizon crew's been MIA, and now they're bugging me about their pay. Where am I supposed to get the money? Dick always said you were the best. If you come back to help out, we might have a shot," Harper pleaded.
Susanna finally got why Harper was swallowing his pride to ask for her help.
Her face turned icy. "Sorry, I quit. I'm not coming back."
"Susanna, I know you and Dick were close before all this. I messed up, I get it. But now that Dick's in trouble, you're the only one I can turn to. If you help him out, I swear I won't interfere between you two anymore," Harper said earnestly.
Susanna was incredulous. "Are you serious? I never liked Dick; he was always the one pestering me. I'm never gonna be with him, got it?"
She turned to leave, not wanting to waste any more time.
"Susanna, are you really gonna abandon Dick now that he's down? You're divorced; what makes you think you can look down on him?" Harper snapped.
Susanna's demeanor turned frosty. "Even if I'm single forever, Dick is not happening."
"Stop pretending. When Dick was hurt, didn't you rush to the hospital to take care of him? Now he's just in a bit of trouble, and he'll bounce back. Dick knows a lot of rich and powerful people. You'll regret it," Harper shot back.
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? I'll wait for that day to regret it."
"No wonder you got divorced. A gold-digger like you, who could stand that? Let me tell you, a woman like you won't find another man after a divorce. There won't be another sucker like Dick to treat you right," Harper spat out, his tone growing harsh.
Just then, Susanna felt a hand on her shoulder and heard Brian's voice. "Sorry, ma'am, but you're mistaken. I'm her suitor, and she'll have someone even if she gets older!"
Hearing Brian, Susanna knew he was standing up for her, so she stayed quiet.
Harper's words were truly disgusting.
Seeing Brian's handsome face, Harper paused. "Where'd this gigolo come from?"
Brian smirked, "From Novaria, with money and power. Worth way more than a hick like Dick."
Harper sneered, "Anyone can talk big. I bet you're just a male escort. How could a woman like Susanna land a wealthy man? She's an orphan and practically broke."
Brian's eyes turned cold. He lifted his hand to reveal his branded watch and looked down at Susanna. "Let's go. I got a new sports car today. See if you like it."
Susanna understood Brian's intention and deliberately said, "Is it a gift for me?"
"Yes, if you like it, I'll even pluck the stars from the sky for you."
Susanna followed Brian outside the school, and sure enough, there was a flashy sports car parked by the curb.
Seeing the car, Harper couldn't believe it. Was this guy really loaded?
She scoffed, still trying to hold on. "Susanna, these rich guys are just playing with you. Only Dick can offer you marriage."
Susanna sneered, "Is marriage some kind of prize? Do you think I care?"
Brian leaned against the sports car, then walked over to Harper and looked her in the eye.
She seemed a bit intimidated. "What do you want?"
"Ma'am, if you bother Susanna again, I guarantee Dick will never get out of prison."
Harper felt a chill. After Brian drove away, she realized this guy might have had a hand in Dick's arrest.
But it was too late; the sports car had already sped off. Harper sat on the ground, full of regret for making things tough for Susanna.
Now that Dick was arrested, what was she going to do?
Meanwhile, Susanna and Brian left the school together.
Surprised by Dick's swift arrest, Susanna reached out to her ex-colleagues for details and uncovered something unexpected.
Colleague: [Heard Dick got nailed for financial crimes, like scamming the school's money and embezzling investor funds to buy a house.]
Colleague: [Now all of Dick's dirty laundry is out, and the finance team got arrested too. If Dick can't cover the losses, he might get several years. Too bad we didn't get our wages. Good thing you bailed early.]
After reading her colleague's complaints, Susanna understood why Dick was arrested.
She never thought Dick was such a scumbag; it never showed. No, she now realized Dick was never a good person.
She hadn't gone after Harper's crimes, but now Dick was facing the music. Indeed, those who do evil will meet their end.
Brian hesitated. "Susanna, that old woman just now was Dick's mom, right?"
"Yeah. Dick got arrested for some financial issues, and it doesn't look good."
"Susanna, are you worried about him?"
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "Worried about a creep like Dick? He's getting what he deserves."
Brian sighed in relief. "That's good."
He tentatively asked, "Susanna, don't take this the wrong way, but I think I heard that old woman mention you were divorced. Did I hear that right?"
Susanna paused at the word "divorce." "You heard right."
"Maybe I misheard," said Brian.
"No, Brian, you didn't mishear. I am divorced."
At this point, Susanna didn't bother hiding it anymore. After all, her brothers would find out sooner or later.
Brian's face changed upon hearing this. He immediately pulled over and looked at her. "Susanna, are you serious? Who was that guy?"
How dare he divorce her!
Marrying Susanna was such a blessing, and he didn't cherish it?
Susanna pursed her lips. "Brian, who he is doesn't matter. I have nothing to do with him anymore."
"Susanna, don't worry. I've got your back. You were on your own before, but now you have us. Who does your ex-husband think he is to divorce you!" Brian seemed furious.
Susanna was silent for a moment. "I was the one who insisted on the divorce."
