Chapter 555 Those Who Do Wrong Feel the Most Guilty

"Mom, you're hurting my hand." Ramond winced, his face going pale from the pain.

Vivian squatted down, trying to soothe him. "Listen, you need to make your grandpa like you, okay? The more he likes you, the stronger our place in the Richardson family will be. That means a better life for us, no more struggling or getting pushed around."

Ramond just stood there, silent and blank. Vivian clutched her designer handbag, determined not to let this chance slip away. She had to make it work, no matter what. She was done with the hard life.

Standing up, she said, "Ramond, go find your grandpa later and make him happy, alright?"

Ramond didn't answer, his eyes drifting to the toy store nearby.

Susanna watched Vivian walk away, her mind racing. She was pretty sure Vivian was the one who pushed Maria down the stairs back then. She hadn't seen who knocked her out, but the tattoo on the ankle was a dead giveaway—it was Vivian.

But that alone wasn't enough to nail her. That was why she had hinted that Maria was waking up earlier, and Vivian's reaction had been telling. She needed a plan.

"Susanna, have you found any evidence?" Aviana asked.

Susanna shook her head. "No, nothing concrete. Too much time has passed, and Vivian was smart and quick about it. Wendy took all the blame, and now Wendy's not in a good mental state, so we can't get anything from her."

Plus, Vivian had gotten rid of the tattoo on her ankle, claiming it was burned by Maud last time. It all fit together.

Aviana frowned. "This isn't that hard to deal with. We don't need evidence. If we want to take someone down, we've got plenty of ways."

"I know," Susanna replied, "but I want to do it my way."

Aviana said, "Susanna, are you worried about Vivian's connection to Owen? Don't be. Do whatever you need to do. Even if you cause a huge mess, Edward and I will back you up."

Susanna felt a warmth in her heart at Aviana's words. She stepped forward and took Aviana's arm. "I know you and Edward have always been there for me, but I need to handle my own stuff."

Even though Edward and Aviana loved her unconditionally, she couldn't keep acting like a kid and causing trouble for them to clean up. She had a plan to get the evidence against Vivian.

The next day, everyone gathered to go to the research institute to bring Charles home. Susanna arrived outside the institute, looking up at the gate. The first time she came here, Charles had been in the ICU, barely hanging on.

Finally, Charles was healthy enough to leave this place and live like a normal kid. Michael held Charles's hand as they reached the gate, with the staff gathered around.

Charles walked out to see six luxury cars lined up and six uncles waiting at the door. Susanna's eyes welled up when she saw Charles. After all these years, this day had finally come. She took a few steps forward, but Lillian beat her to it, rushing over and shouting in her sweet, childlike voice, "Welcome back from the hospital!"

Charles gave Lillian a cool look, his eyes softening with affection, but he still said, "You should say 'congratulations on being discharged,' not 'welcome back from the hospital.'"

He sighed inwardly. Lillian was still so clumsy with words. He'd have to keep an eye on her in kindergarten to make sure she didn't get picked on.

Susanna stepped forward and hugged Charles tightly, her voice choked with emotion. "I'm sorry. I didn't take care of myself, and that's why you've been sick since you were born."

Charles felt a bit shy in Susanna's embrace. He kept a straight face and said, "It's not your fault. I never blamed you."

Lillian stood on tiptoe. "We got lots of gifts and surprises for you."

At that moment, Edward stepped forward and said to Charles, "Let's go home." Charles nodded and got into the car with them.

Susanna looked back, and Michael said, "Come home early tonight for dinner." If it weren't for Michael, Charles might not have recovered and could have been in serious trouble. He was Charles's savior.

Michael walked over to Susanna, standing in front of her, his usually calm and restrained eyes showing emotions he hadn't even noticed.

Susanna sensed something and quickly looked away. "Charles's recovery is all thanks to you."

Michael replied, "I promised back then that I would save you and your two children."

Susanna remembered when she was wronged by the Abbott Family and almost had a miscarriage after a fall. She was on the verge of collapse. It was Michael who supported her.

The next second, Michael patted her shoulder and then restrained himself. "I'll come over early later."

Susanna breathed a sigh of relief and nodded. "Okay, I'll go first." She turned and got into the car, glancing at Michael standing outside, her heart inexplicably racing. It was the first time she felt such overt emotions from Michael.

After all, in her eyes, Michael was a man with almost terrifying self-control, rarely showing any emotional fluctuations. But just now, he seemed like a different person, making her feel a bit uncomfortable.

Brian looked at her. "Michael is a good man. If you choose him, I have no objections."
