Chapter 196 Her Greatest Threat is Him
Susanna felt Maria's eager gaze, and her emotions got all tangled up.
She glanced at Maria and reassured her, "Hey, the baby's doing great, really healthy. No need to stress."
Maria looked at Aaron again. Susanna knew what Maria wanted to ask, so she continued, "Aaron's been really good to me, always taking care of me. I haven't been to Epic Horizon anymore. Being pregnant, going to classes, and working is just too much."
Aaron heard Susanna's words, gave her a complicated look, and stayed silent.
Maria nodded slightly.
In a gentle tone, Susanna comforted Maria, "Don't worry, I'll make sure both me and the little one are well taken care of. If you're really concerned, hurry up and recover so you can keep an eye on me yourself."
A comforting smile appeared in Maria's eyes, with a hint of tears at the corners.
Susanna grabbed a tissue and gently dabbed away Maria's tears. "Get some good rest, okay? We'll come by to see you often."
Maria blinked, a silent sign of her agreement. Then, she turned her gaze towards Aaron, as if silently urging him to speak.
Susanna caught Maria's meaning but avoided glancing at Aaron beside her, uncertain of what his response might be.
After a while, Aaron's thin lips parted slightly. "Grandma, don't worry, I will take good care of her."
Hearing Aaron's promise, Maria finally closed her eyes in peace and fell asleep with calm breathing.
After adjusting Maria's blanket, Susanna exited the ward with Aaron by her side. She took a deep breath and stated, "I'm leaving now."
"Susanna."
As she heard Aaron's voice behind her, she didn't turn around but asked, "Is there anything else?"
Aaron looked at her back. "If you need help later, you can always come to me."
Susanna didn't quite understand what he meant by that since he was her biggest threat right now.
She pressed her lips. "No need, thank you. I'll have Dick withdraw the lawsuit and won't cause you any trouble."
After saying that, she hurried away, darting into the elevator without a backward glance, her hand instinctively reaching for her belly.
Following her conversation with Maria and Aaron's previous suggestion of not pursuing a divorce and keeping the child, Susanna speculated that Aaron might not pose a threat to the baby. She understood that it was all due to Maria's influence.
If Maria hadn't woken up, she didn't know what kind of conflict would have erupted between her and Aaron.
This was probably a blessing in disguise.
Susanna arrived downstairs and saw Austin waiting for her. "Austin, let's go."
Austin, who had been on edge, finally relaxed upon seeing Susanna emerge unharmed. "Aaron was with you, wasn't he? Did he cause any trouble?"
"No, he wouldn't dare because Maria is there." Susanna forced a smile. "Let's go."
Austin remained mostly silent as he escorted Susanna out of the hospital. It wasn't until they were in the car that he spoke up, saying, "Susanna, the family is aware of your injury. However, they are unaware of your pregnancy; they only know that Dick pushed you and you were injured. Daniel is already on his way to Lindwell."
Susanna thought about Dick's situation. "Austin, I don't plan to pursue this matter. Because the person who hurt Dick was Aaron. I made a deal with Aaron; he won't harm me or the baby."
Austin pressed his thin lips, uttering, "Susanna, you don't have to be so aggrieved. Even if you pursue Dick's responsibility, Aaron wouldn't dare hurt you."
"Austin, I already agreed to this. It's not good to go back on my word."
Susanna knew her brothers would stand up to Aaron for her, but she didn't want to drag them into her mess.
Since she was about to leave the situation behind, it seemed smarter to avoid more trouble.
Austin frowned, feeling uneasy, but for Susanna's sake, he decided to let it go for now. Still, the idea of completely letting Dick off the hook was out of the question.
While they couldn't pursue legal action for Susanna's injury, there were other ways to handle someone like Dick. But it was best not to tell Susanna.
Both had their own thoughts and dropped the topic.
Back at Austin's apartment, Susanna went to the bathroom and immediately called Dick. "Withdraw the lawsuit with the police. I won't pursue this."
"Susanna, did you decide not to sue so quickly? What did your ex-husband offer you?" Dick asked.
"That's none of your business. Withdraw the lawsuit. As for your mother, I won't pursue it. We're even."
Dick replied, "Susanna, since the misunderstanding is cleared up, come back to work at Epic Horizon, I—"
Susanna hung up, not wanting to hear his nonsense.
She didn't pursue Dick's mother's matter to protect her child, and it had nothing to do with Dick. She didn't want to see that disgusting mother and son duo.
Not long after, Brian came back with a lot of good food.
Seeing Brian's cautious look, Susanna knew he felt guilty about her injury. She could feel her brothers' care for her.
So she decided not to dwell on it and planned to go back to Novaria with her brothers.
At night, Daniel arrived in Lindwell and headed straight to the apartment from the airport. However, upon his arrival, he found that Susanna was already fast asleep.
Austin was waiting in the living room and whispered, "Don't let Susanna know about dealing with Dick, in case she gets soft-hearted."
Daniel nodded. "I know, I've already figured out how to make Dick pay on the way here."
Brian, with a cold face, said, "We absolutely can't let that mother and son off. That cunning Dick, you can tell he's up to no good just by looking at his eyes. He still wants to pursue Susanna? Dream on."
They exchanged a look and decided to deal with Dick, not letting him off.
Susanna stayed at Austin's place for two days. After the wounds on her arm and knee healed, she went back to school to continue her classes and prepare for exams.
When Susanna came out of the study room, a middle-aged woman suddenly rushed out from the side. "Susanna, Susanna, I've been looking for you for a long time. Why haven't you been answering your phone?"
When she saw Harper, Susanna's smile instantly faded. "I have no obligation to answer your calls," she asserted.
She had already blocked Harper's number.
"Susanna, I know I was too impulsive at the hospital last time. I'm sorry. Don't hold it against an uneducated old woman like me," Harper pleaded.
Susanna frowned. "Let go. I don't want to see you, and I don't want to accept your apology. I've made it very clear to Dick, don't come looking for me again."
"Susanna, don't go. You don't know yet, do you? Dick has been arrested by the police," Harper said, still praying for forgiveness.
