Chapter 29 Real Brother

In just a short time, Aaron felt like Susanna had become a complete stranger.

Grace sneered, "Who knows? They treat her so well, even saying it's okay to hit us—who'd believe that?"

Aaron's eyes narrowed as he recalled the day Susanna was taken away and the mysterious man who had paid ten years of medical bills at the hospital. He still hadn't figured out who that man was. Could it be Susanna's brother?

When Susanna heard Grace insulting her brother, her face changed instantly. "Brenda, get them out of here. If they cause trouble, call security and the police."

Grace cursed, "Susanna, you ungrateful wretch. I won't let you off."

Olivia plopped down on the floor, wailing, "Oh my God, Susanna's abandoned us after marrying a rich man."

Brenda had never seen such a scene and was at a loss. Susanna felt utterly humiliated.

Aaron seized a cup and hurled it, his expression icy and menacing. "She asked you to go. Can't you hear?"

When Aaron's anger flared, it was a chilling sight. Susanna shot him a look of astonishment. Was he standing up for her?

The moment Aaron spoke, Olivia's crying stopped abruptly. Seeing Aaron's menacing expression, she scrambled to her feet and dared to say, "What do you want? I was scolding my own granddaughter. Why did you hit me?"

Aaron had never encountered such shameless people before and was furious.

Sensing things were getting out of hand, Susanna quickly shouted to Brenda, "Brenda, what are you waiting for? Get security, or call the police!"

Olivia, hearing this, continued her shameless act. "You wretch, go ahead and call security! I don't believe they can do anything to me!"

Susanna, exasperated, said, "They might not be able to do anything to you, but they can hurt Andrew!"

Olivia immediately felt cornered and trembled. "You wouldn't dare!"

Aaron gritted his teeth. "She might not dare, but I do!"

Seeing Aaron's fierce expression, Olivia was momentarily speechless. Grace, a bully at heart, realized Susanna and Aaron were serious about dealing with Andrew. She quickly tugged Olivia's sleeve, signaling her to stop. Olivia, out of options, cursed as they were driven out. Grace glared at Susanna, "You wretch, this isn't over!"

With that, they left in disgrace. The hall finally returned to peace.

Susanna looked at the broken pieces on the floor and smiled bitterly. "Go ahead and laugh if you want."
That was the kind of family she had. Madison had helped her hide it for three years, but now Grace and Olivia had found her. It was probably the photos she posted that gave her away. She was so happy she forgot that the million-dollar prize would drive her foster parents crazy.
Aaron thought for a moment. "With Grace's personality, she won't let go of that million dollars easily. I can introduce you to a lawyer."

"No need, I can handle it myself," Susanna refused outright. She could ask Daniel for help.

Aaron frowned. "Handle it yourself? How? By asking your brother for help?"

Susanna nodded. "Yes." It was true; Daniel was helping her out, and her brothers would definitely be willing to help too.

Seeing her nod, Aaron irritably tugged at his tie. "So, he's really good to you. Fancy hotels, paying your medical bills, now helping you with family issues!"

Her "good brother" sure knew how to please women. No wonder Susanna signed the divorce papers so quickly.

Susanna was stunned. "What medical bills?"

Aaron looked at her angrily. "Stop acting like you don't know. You just want someone to take care of everything for you, right? Congrats on finding a gullible guy."

Susanna hesitated, noting his misunderstanding. He had taken her brother as her lover. She lowered her gaze, opting against clarifying the situation. There was no necessity.

Seeing her indifferent attitude, Aaron's anger flared even more. He pressed his lips together. "Susanna, you better watch yourself and not get too close to other men."

Susanna's tone was calm. "We're already divorced. You have no right to control me."

"As long as we haven't got the document, I'm still your husband. Do you have no shame getting involved with other men?"

"Shame? You talk about shame? Weren't you the one who brought Erica home late at night and kicked me out?"

Aaron was taken aback. Was that what she thought?

He frowned. "What are you talking about? When did I kick you out? Didn't you pack up and leave on your own?"

Susanna didn't want to argue anymore. "Let's just finalize the divorce."

Aaron, furious, yanked off his tie. "You know Grandma doesn't want us to divorce, and you're saying this to threaten me?"

"I'm not threatening you," Susanna said calmly. "We can handle it quietly and not tell her until after her surgery."

"Do you think Grandma is stupid?" Aaron stepped closer, gripping her chin. "In such a hurry to divorce me, are you that eager to be with your 'brother'? What if Grandma hears something? Can you handle that?"

Her chin hurt from his grip. She lowered her eyes. "I just want to make room for Erica, so she doesn't have to wait."

"What does this have to do with her?" Aaron's tone was warning. "Susanna, I'm warning you. If any gossip hurts Grandma, I won't forgive you or those men you're seeing!"

As Susanna's heart plummeted, she realized that in his perception, she remained the same despicable figure. His previous show of support had been nothing but a facade, a ploy to shift blame onto her. She had misunderstood everything.

Pushing his hand away, Susanna fixed him with a steady gaze. "No need to fret. Grandma's well-being means everything to me. I'll go to any lengths to ensure her surgery is a success."

Susanna turned to grab her bag from the sofa, but Aaron grabbed her wrist. "Stop."

"Let go!"

In the midst of her inner turmoil, her grasp faltered, causing her bag to tumble to the ground. From within, a white pill bottle emerged, rolling out in plain view. Susanna's breath hitched at the sight of the bottle, her heart racing with a mix of apprehension and fear.

In the next second, Aaron pulled her close, his voice low. "You said you'd do anything for Grandma's surgery?"

Susanna looked up. "That's right."

Aaron's gaze turned frosty, his lips forming a subtle, disdainful sneer. "But Grandma said she'd only have the surgery if you were pregnant."
