Chapter 213 Would Aaron care about me?
Susanna gagged so hard she thought she might puke up bile.
What was wrong with her? Did she eat something bad for lunch?
When she finally stopped, a bottle of mineral water appeared in front of her. Aaron's long, attractive fingers held it out.
Susanna eyed the water Aaron offered. Without hesitation, she took it, twisted off the cap, and took a few sips. Relief washed over her almost instantly.
Still, she couldn't figure out why her stomach was so upset.
Aaron frowned, his eyes drifting to her lower abdomen. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, maybe I ate something too greasy at lunch and got nauseous."
Susanna figured that had to be it. Overall, she'd been doing fine since getting pregnant, aside from the occasional nausea and vomiting, which she could usually handle.
She was about to leave, but Aaron grabbed her wrist, his gaze intense. "Go to the hospital for a check-up."
Susanna looked at him, surprised by his sudden concern. She gently pulled her hand back. "It's nothing serious. No need to go ."
But Aaron blocked her path, his tone firm. "Do you even know what's going on with you right now? If there's a problem, can you handle it?"
Aaron's frustration was clear. He knew pregnancy made women fragile, and even a small mistake could lead to big problems. Giving birth was like going through hell.
Susanna was about to refuse when Ethan chimed in, "Maybe you've been too busy these past few days, Susanna. Since everything's almost set up here, why not listen to Mr. Abbott and go to the hospital for a check-up? It'll ease his worries."
Aaron worried about her?
Susanna thought Ethan was just trying to please Aaron.
Aaron's expression turned awkward, and the atmosphere between them shifted.
Susanna turned away, feeling a bit uncomfortable. "Seriously, there's no need. I just ate something bad at lunch."
She didn't want to go to the hospital just for morning sickness; that would be so embarrassing.
Susanna turned to leave, but after a few steps, her vision went black, and she felt unsteady.
As she was about to fall, she was caught in a strong embrace. She strained to open her eyes and saw Aaron's striking profile, his chiseled features highlighted in the dim light.
At that moment, Susanna could hardly speak. She felt weak all over and soon passed out.
Aaron held her tightly and strode out of the hall.
After getting her into the car, he said coldly, "To the hospital, quickly. Have the obstetrician ready for a check-up."
He looked down at the unconscious Susanna in his arms, her face pale. He reminded the driver sternly, "Drive faster!"
The driver sped to the hospital.
The doctor was already waiting. Kieran saw Aaron carrying a woman out of the car and quickly approached. "Mr. Abbott, the doctor and the stretcher are ready."
Aaron's face was cold. "Where's the operating room?"
"Third floor."
After Kieran answered, he watched Aaron carry her towards the elevator, sweating profusely, not understanding Aaron's actions but not daring to speak.
The assistant hurried over and caught up with Aaron. "Boss, using the hospital's stretcher would speed things up. The medical staff can assess Mrs. Abbott's condition right away."
Hearing this, Aaron snapped, "Where's the stretcher?"
Kieran quickly had a nurse bring it over. Only then did Aaron carefully place Susanna on it and glance at Kieran. "She's pregnant and fainted after vomiting."
Aaron had been too nervous earlier and forgot that using the stretcher would be faster. Now that he had regained his composure, he immediately described Susanna's condition to the doctor.
Hearing she was pregnant, Kieran became highly alert. "Mr. Abbott, please rest assured, we will ensure the safety of both mother and child."
"It better be that way. If anything happens to Susanna, your hospital's future is on the line," Aaron demanded.
He watched as the stretcher was swiftly wheeled into the operating room for examination. He removed his suit jacket, loosened his tie, and felt the sweat already soaking through his shirt.
He stood outside the operating room, staring at the flashing red light.
After a while, Aaron couldn't help but ask his assistant, "Is childbirth really that dangerous for women?"
Tyler nodded. "I have a cousin who had a blood clot during childbirth. The rescue was a fight with death. Later, her mother-in-law thought the rescue was too expensive and wasn't happy about the cost of having a child."
Aaron's lips pressed into a thin line. "Hermother-in-law is a piece of work."
"Yeah, so pregnancy is really tough for women. I used to think it wasn't a big deal, but after seeing my cousin's experience, I realized how dangerous it can be," said Tyler.
Hearing this, Aaron fell silent. Since childbirth was so dangerous, he began to reconsider whether to keep the child.
If it came to it, he could always adopt a child in the future.
Soon, the doctor came out of the operating room. "Where's the patient's family?"
Aaron stepped forward. "I am."
"Are you the patient's husband? The patient is fatigued, stressed, and undernourished, resulting in low blood sugar levels. As the patient's husband and the child's father, you must prioritize caring for the pregnant woman and assume more responsibilities around the house," the doctor said.
Aaron's expression grew grim. Kieran quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "Mr. Abbott, this is Dr. Joseph, the most authoritative doctor. He's just a bit blunt, but he means well."
Aaron suppressed his displeasure and looked at Joseph. "Is Susanna okay?"
"The patient and the child are fine, but if this continues, it might not stay that way."
Joseph added, "The patient is a bit anemic and calcium-deficient. Make sure she gets proper supplements."
Aaron's lips thinned.Thinking about how Susanna had been busy setting up the hall these past few days, he felt a bit guilty.
Soon, Susanna was wheeled out, still asleep.
Aaron accompanied her to a private VIP ward. He glanced at Tyler beside him, his tone slightly strained. "Ensure everything is set up as per Dr. Joseph's directives."
Tyler placed Susanna's canvas bag on the bedside table and left the ward.
Aaron stood by the bed, looking at the sleeping woman. Although her lips were still a bit pale, her complexion had improved.
At that moment, Susanna's canvas bag buzzed with an incoming call. Aaron glanced at it and, on a whim, decided to answer. The caller ID displayed "Brother."
