Chapter 468 It Seems He Knows the Truth
Susanna caught what the lawyer was laying down, and a sly grin flickered in her eyes.
These lawyers? Yeah, they were all part of Edward's crew. Edward always had her back. Anytime someone talked trash about her online, Edward would sic his lawyers on them.
These lawyers knew the drill by now. They got how much Edward was into Susanna.
Sam was left speechless after hearing all this.
Sam was sweating bullets for Aaron. 'With Susanna's brothers treating her like a queen, Aaron's got a tough road ahead.'
Aaron's face went ice-cold after hearing that. No one had ever dared to talk to him like that before.
Susanna felt the chill coming off Aaron and stepped up next to her legal team, staring him down. "Mr. Abbott," she said, "I think my lawyer spelled it out. I ain't got time for dinner with you tonight."
She looked Aaron dead in the eye. Her mood was all over the place, but it was nothing like four years ago.
Aaron felt a wave of frustration and finally softened his tone, "Then when will you have time?"
"I don't know. But Mr. Abbott, you might wanna book the next flight outta Philly. Edward's gonna find out you're here, and you better be ready for what's coming."
Edward wasn't like her other brothers. If Edward decided to make a move, Aaron wouldn't even get close to her, let alone play bodyguard!
After Susanna finished, she turned and strutted out of the hotel lobby, leaving Aaron in the dust.
Aaron watched her walk away, his face unreadable.
Sam sighed next to him and said, "Aaron, winning her back ain't gonna be easy."
Aaron pulled his gaze back and said, "No matter how hard it is, I'm not giving up."
"Aaron, good luck. I'm pulling for you."
Sam silently thought, 'I feel bad for you, man.'
Not long after, the secretary rushed over and said, "Mr. Abbott, we got word that Edward knows we're in Philly and he's sent people to nab us. The leader's a pro hitman."
Sam's eyes widened, "A pro hitman? Are you serious?"
Did the Jones family want them dead?
More like Edward wanted Aaron gone!
The secretary nodded and replied, "The info's legit, Mr. Abbott. What's the plan?"
No way they could let Mr. Abbott get hurt.
Aaron stayed cool and said, "No rush."
Sam was freaking out, "Your life's on the line!"
The Jones family wouldn't hold back.
Aaron glanced at the secretary and said, "Book the next flight to Lindwell."
"Aaron, you're just gonna bail? Sure, heading back now is smart, but what about later? The Jones family might block you from coming back. Once you buy a ticket, they'll know, and you might never get close to Susanna again."
He wouldn't get near Susanna, let alone win her back.
"I'm not leaving. I'm heading straight to the hospital."
Sam was scratching his head. "Why the hospital, man?"
Once they were in the car, Aaron said coolly, "Gonna check out Lillian's medical records."
"Aaron, you still think Susanna's hiding something?"
"Yep."
Aaron turned to the secretary, "How's our guy at the hospital doing with the investigation?"
"Haven't heard back yet. I'll give 'em a call."
"No need. Tell 'em to meet me outside the hospital. I got questions."
Aaron's suspicions were eating at him, and he needed to see for himself.
The secretary hesitated, "But the next flight to Lindwell leaves in an hour. If we head to the airport now, we can make it. Otherwise, it's a two-hour wait."
Aaron leaned back, "I never said we're heading to the airport right now."
Sam raised an eyebrow, "So, you're throwing the Jones family off? Making 'em think you are leaving, but you're actually staying?"
"Exactly."
Aaron stared out the window. He wasn't leaving Philly that easily.
Soon, they pulled up outside the hospital.
A man approached the car and respectfully said, "Mr. Abbott."
"The medical records? What did you find?"
The man handed over the printed records and whispered, "Everything looks legit, but there's something fishy."
Aaron took the records, "Spill it."
"I chatted with a janitor who said the patient in that room doesn't stay at the hospital much. But the room's info is locked down tight."
Aaron thought for a moment, "Keep digging, but don't blow your cover. Take it slow."
"Got it, Mr. Abbott."
Aaron rolled up the window and looked at the records. Everything seemed fine.
He handed them to the secretary. "Send these back home and get some experts to comb through 'em."
Sam glanced at the papers, "Aaron, you might be onto something. If the sick person ain't Lillian, then who is it?"
"If I knew, I wouldn't be investigating. It's just a hunch for now."
Sam rubbed his chin, "But if it was really Lillian who was sick, it wouldn't be so hush-hush, right? The hospital wouldn't need to cover it up."
Aaron chuckled, "She's trying to play me."
He knew Susanna was hiding something, and it had to do with the kid.
"But why would Susanna lie about this? Just to get some bone marrow? Doesn't add up. She took the bone marrow to treat an illness."
Aaron's lips curled into a smirk. "But the person getting treated isn't Lillian. She came to Lindwell with Lillian to get close to me."
"If it's not Lillian, then who is it? How could she be so sure your bone marrow would be a match?"
Aaron's eyes widened as he looked at Sam. "Say that again!"
He felt like he was onto the truth.
