Chapter 581 Was This Aaron's Way of Being Romantic?
Susanna glanced at Aaron, who had just walked back in, and raised an eyebrow. What was he up to now?
Aaron stood there, his tall frame kind of intimidating. He pressed his thin lips together. "Good night." And with that, he walked away.
Susanna stood there, confused. Was this Aaron's idea of being romantic? Just then, she turned around and saw Lillian and Charles peeking from the doorway. She coughed. "What are you two doing here?"
Lillian covered her mouth and stammered, "Charles told me to come."
Charles glared at Lillian for ratting him out so quickly. He stepped out, looking all smug. "I just wanted to get some fresh air."
Susanna saw right through Charles' little act; he definitely wanted to keep an eye on things. She walked over and took Lillian and Charles by the hand. "Come on, let's get ready for bed."
Charles looked up at her. "Why didn't you tell me about the telescope?" If he had known it was from Aaron, Charles definitely wouldn't have accepted it.
Susanna ruffled Charles' hair until it was a mess, then said with a satisfied grin, "Why make it so hard? He's trying to make it up to you. If you like the gifts, keep them. If not, donate them."
Charles kept a cool face. "But I don't want it."
"Seems like you care about him quite a bit."
"I don't!"
Susanna saw Charles' awkward, angry expression, which looked a lot like a mini Aaron. She smiled. "If you didn't care, then why are you so concerned about his gifts? Look how calm Lillian is."
"I'm not as easy to please as she is."
Susanna looked at Charles. "If you have issues with him, you two should work it out. Don't drag me into it."
Charles looked up angrily. "Mom, have you forgiven him? He hurt you so badly back then!"
"To be precise, someone set me and him up back then. You don't need to worry about our issues. Go to bed early." Thinking about the past, Susanna realized that forgiveness wasn't even the issue anymore.
Aaron had been forced to marry Susanna back then. A proud man like him surely didn't like her. But she hadn't expected Aaron to be so persistent now. Susanna felt troubled. Should she accept Aaron?
The next day, Susanna took the kids to the hospital to see Maria, whose condition had stabilized and who was very happy to see them.
Lillian had even practiced a dance routine to perform for Maria. Although Charles was a bit reluctant, he still cooperated with Lillian's performance.
Susanna watched from the side, feeling sad at Maria's frail appearance. If it weren't for Vivian's scheming, Maria wouldn't have been pushed down the stairs and hospitalized for years, and could have lived a few more years without such suffering.
Susanna wouldn't have nearly had a premature birth, and her child wouldn't have been weak and sickly from birth. She would never forgive Vivian and would make her pay.
Susanna turned and saw Aaron outside, diligently working, looking no different from before. Susanna called the secretary over. "Any news on Vivian yet?"
The secretary replied, "She's being very cautious. Probably waiting for the right moment to strike."
Susanna thought for a moment. She needed a way to provoke Vivian. Vivian was always ambitious, loved money, and craved status and power, though she used to pretend to be aloof.
Now that Vivian had been kicked out by Owen, if Maria accused her of murder, Vivian would never turn her life around. So she would definitely come.
Susanna looked at the secretary. "What's the official word on Maria's condition?"
"As agreed, Mrs. Abbott has woken up but has some memory confusion due to the long coma. She's still undergoing treatment."
"Good, no wonder Vivian hasn't made a move. She probably thinks she has a chance."
Susanna turned to Aaron, who had just finished a meeting. She needed to come up with a plan.
She walked straight to Aaron. Hearing her footsteps, Aaron looked up, his eyes deep. "Leaving already?" He had just finished his urgent work and wanted to spend more time with her.
Susanna sat next to him. "Not really. I just had an idea. How about we take a walk in the garden?"
Aaron swallowed slightly. "What do you want to do?"
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "Of course, I want to make Vivian lose her cool. The last thing she wants to see is us getting back together. If I have everything she envies, do you think she'll make a move?"
Aaron looked at Susanna. "Alright, I'll do whatever you say." They went to the small garden downstairs. The sunlight was nice today.
Susanna glanced up at Maria's hospital room. "When the kids were performing, the sun shone right into the room. It saved on lighting."
Aaron also saw Lillian dancing and smiled slightly. "Yes, she looked like a little angel."
"After all, she is our daughter." Susanna paused, realizing she seemed to be complimenting Aaron.
Aaron chuckled. "Yes, just as beautiful as you."
Susanna sat on the bench. "Don't think a few nice words will make everything okay. I'm a very petty person."
Aaron stood in front of her, one hand in his pocket, the sunlight filtering through the leaves, making his features even more handsome and defined.
Aaron's tone was gentle. "I know, but I'll keep trying until you're no longer angry."
Susanna instinctively avoided his gaze. She hadn't expected to see this side of Aaron. She swung her foot slightly and noticed her shoelace was untied.
As she was about to bend down, Aaron knelt in front of her, his long fingers grasping the loose lace. Susanna was stunned, looking at his profile, as if time had taken them back five years.
But soon, Susanna felt a cold gaze on her back. It seemed Vivian had taken the bait.
When Aaron finished tying her shoelace, she suddenly grabbed his tie and pulled him close. "Mr. Abbott, what do you mean by kneeling on one knee?" Aaron leaned forward, one hand on the bench, looking up at her.
