Chapter 238 This "Hubby" Can't Be Called for Nothing

Susanna was feeling down, but out of nowhere, Aaron showed up and scared off the two creeps. Her emotions were all over the place.

Aaron looked a bit uneasy and said, "If something happened to you, I couldn't face Grandma."

Susanna quickly forced a smile. "Thanks for earlier."

Aaron chuckled, "Can't let that 'husband' title go to waste."

Susanna stayed quiet. As they left the grove, she saw a security SUV nearby with the two guys being shoved into it.

She noticed their familiar clothes, but now they were beaten up and limping, looking nothing like their cocky selves from before.

She turned to Aaron. "Did you do this to them?"

Aaron, standing next to her, said coldly, "Just a little lesson. They deserved it."

Susanna glanced at the bruised men and couldn't help but smile. Who wouldn't appreciate some backup?

Just then, her phone buzzed. She saw Austin's name on the screen and looked at Aaron with a mischievous glint.

Aaron saw the caller ID and his lips tightened. "Answer it."

Susanna stepped aside and answered, "Hello."

"Susanna, are you at school? I can pick you up."

"No need, I'm already in the car. I'll head back myself," she replied.

"Alright, remember tomorrow's prenatal checkup. Next time, no more sneaking around," Austin reminded her.

After the call, Susanna thought about leaving town soon.

Aaron's icy voice broke the silence. "Get in the car. I'll drive you home."

Susanna nodded. Aaron gave her a deep look and, once in the car, asked, "Why did you lie? You haven't left yet. Why refuse Austin's offer?"

"Because I need to talk to you." Susanna looked at him, her eyes reflecting only his image.

Aaron's breath caught, trying to stay calm. "Does this mean you've made a choice?"

"Yes, I have."

Considering Susanna's recent lie, his mood suddenly lifted as he guessed her choice.

"I believe you'll make a wise choice," he said.

Susanna took a deep breath and met his gaze. "I've decided to leave and go to Novaria."

Aaron's fingers trembled, shock and hurt on his face. The tension in the car was thick. After a moment, he struggled to stay composed. "What does Austin have that I don't?"

Susanna avoided his gaze, fearing her eyes would give her away. She swallowed hard and explained, "I'm going to Novaria to have the baby. It wouldn't be fair for the child to grow up in a tense family. For our future child, I have to leave Lindwell."

Because Aaron didn't like kids, Susanna decided to keep the child's real parentage a secret. Their marriage continued mainly because of Maria, as Aaron had no real feelings for her. Plus, Maud's dislike for Susanna extended to the unborn child, making Susanna worry about the child's future happiness.

Aaron loosened his tie and rolled down the window, letting the wind in. He didn't expect to lose in the end. She chose Austin.

Susanna glanced at him, his face partly hidden in the shifting light. She sensed his displeasure; Aaron wasn't used to rejection.

After a while, Aaron said coldly, "Since you've decided, you should explain it to Grandma yourself."

Susanna nodded. "I know."

Aaron yanked off his tie and asked, "How will you explain it to Grandma? If she gets sick because of you, I won't forgive you. You know how good she is to you; is it right to hurt her like this?"

Susanna's eyes reddened slightly. "I know, I'll find a way."

"What could you get?"

The best way was not to tell Maria and let everything stay the same. But she still chose Austin!

Aaron kept a stern face but kept glancing at her, feeling particularly agitated. The rest of the ride was silent until they reached the neighborhood.

Susanna realized they had arrived and was about to get out when she heard his voice. "Susanna."

Her hand was on the door handle. "Anything else?"

"I hope you don't regret it."

Susanna looked down at her belly, making a silent vow. For the child's sake, she couldn't afford regrets. She met Aaron's gaze. "After I talk to Maria, will you move forward with the divorce?"

Aaron felt a surge of anger and answered coldly, "Yes, if it weren't for Grandma's health, do you think I would delay the divorce?"

"I understand," Susanna replied softly.

Her heart ached slightly. She decisively opened the car door and left quickly.

Aaron watched her go and angrily kicked the driver's seat. "Move it, what are you still doing here?"

When Susanna got home, she was surprised to see Austin, Brian, and Daniel in her living room. She quickly composed herself. "You're all here today."

"Edward will be here the day after tomorrow. We'll go back to Novaria with you then."

Susanna nodded and looked at Madison. "Don't worry, we'll all go together and take Vincent with us."

"I know. I've told my mom about the house here. She's not been well and needs a hospital checkup. I'll have her stay here; it's more comfortable than a hotel," Madison said.

Susanna thought about Madison's mom and didn't want Madison to be so soft-hearted, but since they probably wouldn't return to Lindwell, she let it go.

The next day, Susanna and Austin went to the hospital for a prenatal checkup.

Seeing the two little ones on the screen, she smiled. As long as the children grew up safely, she didn't mind being misunderstood.

After her checkup, Susanna headed to the school study room to prep for exams. To her surprise, she found Flandre there. "Flandre, why are you back at school? Isn't the company busy?"

"I have something important to tell you. You need to be careful of Wendy," Flandre said, concern in her voice.
