Chapter 358 Aaron's Willing to Do the Bone Marrow Match
Susanna squared up to him, her red lips no longer tempting but pressed into a sharp line.
Right then, she dropped her usual act and showed her true colors.
Aaron glanced down at the fierce and commanding Susanna in front of him, his voice soft, "Lillian's gonna be okay, I swear."
"You better make sure of it." Susanna took a deep breath, eyeing the flashing red light, regretting ever suggesting dinner with Vivian.
She knew Vivian must've gotten the scoop early and was waiting here for Aaron. Big mistake on her part.
Soon enough, the light in the operating room went out.
The doctor pushed the door open and came out. Susanna rushed over. "Doc, is my daughter alright?"
"Are you the parents?"
Susanna hesitated and said, "I'm her mom."
The doctor adjusted his glasses and said, "We need to wait for the blood test results to be sure. Our initial diagnosis suggests she might have a blood disorder. Has she been getting sick out of the blue lately?"
Susanna was taken aback, lowering her eyes to hide her real feelings.
Just moments ago, she was freaked out by Lillian's sudden collapse and totally forgot about their plans for the day. It wasn't until the doc spoke that Susanna realized Lillian was playing along.
Quickly pulling herself together, Susanna replied, "Yeah, she's been getting sick for no reason lately. She used to be super healthy."
"The symptoms match. We hope the tests are wrong. But if not, you should start planning ahead," said the doc.
Hearing this, Susanna instinctively stepped back, feeling like she might collapse.
The next second, Aaron grabbed her arm. Seeing her pale face, he said softly, "The results aren't out yet; it might just be a mistake."
"I hope it's a mistake too."
Susanna forced a bitter smile and looked at the doc. "If it's not a mistake, what do we need to do?"
"The parents need to cooperate for a bone marrow match. Usually, parents with the same blood type as the kid have a high chance of a match."
"Doc, my daughter is type A, but I'm type O, the universal donor. Can't we use my match?" Susanna pointed out Lillian's blood type and her own mismatch.
The doc hesitated, glancing at Aaron before saying, "It's better to have the child's father with type A blood." With that, the doc left.
Susanna sighed, "But where can I find Lillian's dad now?"
Aaron's face got a bit complicated. "Sam isn't type A; he's type O like you."
Hearing this, Susanna's expression changed, almost forgetting about Sam.
She looked up to meet Aaron's eyes, sensing something off in his expression. Quickly, she said, "That means I got the wrong guy. He's not Lillian's dad. I must've messed up my investigation."
As she spoke, Susanna avoided Aaron's gaze, worried this sharp guy might catch on.
"I'm type A; I can do the bone marrow match with Lillian."
Hearing Aaron's deep voice, Susanna suddenly looked up. She thought she'd have to wait for Lillian's so-called medical report to come out before finding a way to test Aaron's blood type.
Unexpectedly, he offered to do the bone marrow match before she even asked.
For a split second, Susanna's face went blank, but she quickly managed to say, "Mr. Abbott, thanks a ton." Despite all the lies she’d spun since landing in Lindwell, this gratitude was the real deal.
Aaron nodded. "It's the right thing to do."
Hearing this, Susanna's feelings got all tangled up. Sure, Aaron, as Lillian's dad, should be the one doing the bone marrow match, but he had no clue about that. To him, he was just stepping up for Nova's sick kid.
Susanna saw Lillian being wheeled out of the ER, but Lillian was out cold on the bed, her face super pale, with a bump on her forehead.
Even though she knew it was all an act, she still felt a bit sorry for Lillian.
Lillian's commitment to the act was no joke. Aaron saw the bump on Lillian's forehead, knowing it was Ramond's doing. He said in a deep voice, "I'll make Ramond apologize to Lillian."
Susanna, however, cut in, her voice firm, "Forget it. It's best if Lillian and Ramond stay apart. Lillian's in a fragile state, and I don't want to stir up more trouble."
Susanna actually wanted to give Vivian's kid a piece of her mind, but the bone marrow match was the priority. She'd deal with the rest later.
Seeing her determination, Aaron didn't push it.
After getting Lillian settled in a private room, Susanna turned to Aaron and said, "Mr. Abbott, thanks for bringing Lillian to the hospital and sorting everything out. It's late; you should head home and get some rest. I'll stay with Lillian."
Aaron was quiet for a moment before asking, "When will the test results be out?"
"Probably tomorrow."
"Let me know as soon as you get them," said Aaron.
Susanna nodded. "Okay."
As Susanna watched Aaron leave the room, a wave of relief hit her. Judging by his attitude, she felt pretty good about him agreeing to the bone marrow match.
Not long after, her phone rang, showing Edward's name on the screen. With a hint of nerves, Susanna answered, "Edward, why are you calling so late?"
"Having fun in Lindwell?" Edward's tone was icy.
Realizing she couldn't dodge the truth anymore, Susanna came clean, "Edward, I didn't come to Lindwell for fun."
"Susanna, you're being reckless. It's one thing for you to go to Lindwell, but you brought Lillian too. She's so young! What if the Abbott family finds out who you are?"
Susanna replied, "Edward, I'll be careful. They haven't figured it out yet."
"Susanna, get the earliest ticket back to Novaria!" Edward demanded.
Susanna pressed her lips. "Edward, I can't go back yet."
She explained Charles's condition, and Edward on the other end went silent. "Can't you find a suitable person in Novaria? Why go to Lindwell for type A blood?"
"Edward, our whole family is type O, and Charles has a rare blood type. With only a month left, I had no choice but to come to Lindwell," Susanna explained, worry in her voice.
Casting a quick glance at the sleeping Lillian, she added, "Lillian and I staged a scene. Aaron thinks Lillian is sick and agreed to do a bone marrow match for her."
She'd swap Lillian's sample with Charles's.
Edward sighed, "Be careful."
"I know, don't worry. I'm not the same pushover Susanna anymore," said Susanna.
Edward suggested, "By the way, Susanna, since you're back in Lindwell, visit Madison."
