Chapter 202 Friends from the Orphanage

Susanna didn't expect Brian to ask about her childhood. She shook her head. "Nope."

"Not at all? I recognized you still remembered the piano pieces you learned as a kid," Brian said.

"I think I got sick when I was little, and after that, I don't remember much about the orphanage. Just some fragments."

Susanna couldn't even remember what Jessica looked like now. She only remembered playing the piano with Jessica and her gentle, beautiful hands.

Brian knew all this. When they first found Susanna, they did a thorough investigation. According to Madison, Susanna was adopted and left the orphanage, but due to abuse by her adoptive parents, she had a high fever and almost died. Luckily, she was rescued, but the trauma made her forget everything about her time at the orphanage.

"Susanna, do you remember any friends from the orphanage?" Brian kept asking.

"No, I don't."

Susanna shook her head, feeling a bit puzzled. "Why are you asking this? Did I have any friends in the orphanage?"

"No, I was just asking. You're tired today. Get some rest."

Brian didn't tell the truth. Ever since they found Susanna and knew she was from another orphanage, he suspected Erica might have lied back then.

Erica was found in another orphanage. At that time, Erica had some clues about Susanna's whereabouts, but she provided only vague information, leading to Edward's unsuccessful attempts to locate Susanna. Could it be that Erica was lying?

But now, Susanna had forgotten everything about the orphanage and had no recollection of the events that transpired back then.

Fortunately, they found Susanna, and Edward planned to cut ties with Erica. If Susanna ever remembered the past and it was really related to Erica, Brian would definitely not let Erica off.

In the following days, Susanna was busy practicing the piano and designing the layout for the grand hall. She was so busy that she barely had time to rest, but she still sneaked out at noon to visit Maria in the hospital. She had promised Maria to visit often and couldn't break that promise, or Maria would get suspicious.

Susanna entered the ward carrying some fruit, and Maria was awake. With a smile, Susanna approached her, saying, "Maria, you look much better today."

Maria was no longer on a ventilator. She spoke softly, "You look a bit tired. Have you been busy lately?"

"There's been a lot going on at school, but it will be over soon. I know to take care of myself," Susanna answered truthfully.

"You're taking care of two people now, so be careful."

Hearing Maria's advice, Susanna nodded obediently. After chatting and having lunch with Maria, she left the hospital.

As she walked to the elevator, a woman came out of the nearby stairwell. Erica sneered, "Susanna, you must have manipulated Maria to secure your position in the Abbott family. You seem adept at charming the elderly. Perhaps you should consider a career in a health product company; you'd excel as their top salesperson."

Susanna remained calm. "Your jealousy makes you look terrible."

"Susanna, you won't be smug for long. Maria won't live much longer, and then who will support you? You won't be able to stay in the Abbott family," Erica mocked.

Susanna raised an eyebrow. "Even if you stripped naked in front of Aaron, he didn't marry you and even canceled the engagement. Don't you think that's ridiculous?"

Erica's face turned pale. "Susanna, how can you compare to me?"

"You're right, I can't compete with your thick skin," Susanna shot back before stepping into the elevator and leaving.

Erica could only stomp her feet in anger. She had hoped to visit Maria but was stopped by the vigilant bodyguards. Meanwhile, Susanna effortlessly gained entry to the room, further fueling Erica's fury.

However, Susanna would soon embarrass herself at the school's music festival. Erica could hardly wait to see Susanna fumbling and stumbling while playing the piano on stage.

After leaving the hospital, Susanna hailed a cab back to school. During the ride, her phone rang. It was Daniel. "Susanna, there have been progresses in Dick's case. The charges of economic fraud have been substantiated, and he's expected to face a few years behind bars. Additionally, the old woman who pushed you will serve a year as well."

Hearing this, Susanna pursed her lips. "I see. What about the case where Dick's leg was broken?"

She wanted to know how Aaron handled it.

Daniel was silent for a moment before answering, "There's no evidence for that case, so it's not established. Aaron is fine."

"I see." She knew Aaron wouldn't really be in trouble.

"Daniel, thank you. I'll treat you to coffee later. I need to take a nap; I have classes in the afternoon."

"Alright, don't work too hard," Daniel said.

After ending the call, Daniel glanced at the information before him, a revelation that left him utterly stunned. "Susanna and Aaron are married," he muttered in disbelief.

No wonder the relationship between Susanna and Aaron seemed strange. No wonder Aaron immediately mobilized people to find Susanna when she was kidnapped by her adoptive parents. No wonder Susanna was evasive when asked about her relationship with Aaron outside the police station.

Daniel adjusted his tie and called Austin. "Are you busy? I need to ask you something."

"Not too busy. What's up? If it's not about Susanna, can it wait until after work?" Austin said casually.

"It's about Susanna. What's her relationship with Aaron?"

Austin replied, "You found out?"

Daniel, being a top lawyer, would find out about Susanna and Aaron's relationship.

Daniel frowned. "So you knew all along. Why didn't you tell us?"

"I found out by accident, and Susanna asked me to keep it a secret. She begged me, so how could I refuse?"

Daniel sighed, "She must have been mistreated in the Abbott family to get a divorce."

"Do you think I don't know that? But Susanna is a strong-willed girl with her own ideas. We've only just gotten close to her. If we suddenly start controlling her, it might make her rebellious," said Austin.

Daniel pursed his lips. "What did Susanna get in the divorce? Cash, stocks, real estate?"

Austin was confused. "I don't know, but given Susanna's previous financial situation and her personality, she probably didn't take anything."

As a top lawyer with an undefeated record, Daniel couldn't tolerate Susanna leaving the marriage empty-handed! He wouldn't let Aaron off without making him pay.
