Chapter 137 It Was You Who Got Tricked
After Susanna finished speaking, she saw Erica and Elaine's expressions change and shift.
Elaine was the first to lose her temper. "Susanna, you damn well dare to mess with us?"
Susanna smirked, "Yes, I'm messing with you. Any problem with that?"
Elaine, who was furious and ready to hit someone, was met with Susanna's calm gaze.
Susanna continued, "Think it through. Many people are watching. If you slap me, how will you explain it?"
"What? Why should I have to explain why I slapped you?" Elaine countered.
Erica, however, grabbed Elaine's hand. "Let's go. I need to get back to my work. We shouldn't waste our time here."
'Susanna, that wretched woman, is right. They are public figures. If Elaine slapped her in public, the whole event would be ruined,' Erica thought to herself.
Erica hadn't expected Susanna to become so difficult to deal with! It seemed that she had become arrogant and overbearing after clinging to her brother.
Erica sneered inwardly, 'You won't be able to stay smug for long, Susanna.'
Susanna slowly withdrew her gaze after watching them leave. Her good friend Flandre was laughing so hard she was nearly in tears. "Oh my God, that was hilarious. Their expressions were priceless when you said you didn't record a video."
Susanna's lips curled coldly. "When you don't have any manners, you'll find that the world is much less friendlier."
"True enough. But Susanna, who was that woman next to Elaine? She looked like she was scheming something," Flandre asked.
"Her name is Erica, she's the sister of the owner of Sliverpeak Innovations."
Flandre was momentarily stunned, then quickly recovered. "Is she the one who wants to marry your ex-husband?"
"Yes." Susanna lowered her eyelids, saying, "But Aaron and I will be over soon."
Yet, there was one thing she couldn't understand. 'Why did Aaron cancel his engagement with Erica? Wasn't he afraid that Erica's brother would refuse to perform the surgery because of that?'
She had asked Aaron about it at the hospital, but their conversation had been interrupted when her brothers arrived in the ward, so she never got an answer.
Flandre said with concern, "Susanna, you did great, but aren't you afraid of offending those two women? They might try to harm you in the future. I'm just worried about your situation. After all, we can't afford to offend the wealthy."
"Don't worry, Flandre. Even if I did nothing, they would still come after me. Besides, I plan to move to Novaria after graduation and will have nothing more to do with the Abbott family."
Susanna had already decided that once she completed her credits, her pregnancy would be too obvious to hide. She needed to leave Lindwell and go to Novaria to have her baby.
This was the only way she could safely protect the child's existence.
After she finished speaking, Flandre hugged her. "Susanna, that sounds good. I'll come visit you in Novaria."
"Sure, you're always welcome," Susanna replied.
Susanna hesitated but decided not to mention her pregnancy. She would wait until the baby was born to say anything.
After settling down with her friend, Susanna became somewhat distracted as she thought about Grandma Maria's surgery.
A few hours later, the foundation's inauguration ceremony ended.
Erica spoke as a representative, surrounded by many people with flattering intentions.
Susanna didn't linger and turned to leave the hall with her friend. After all, she had only been there to attend the event.
"Susanna, stop right there!" Elaine chased after her, looking down from above. "Leaving already? We're heading out to have dinner with the school leaders. Why don't you join us?"
"Sorry, I'm busy."
Susanna had no interest in socializing with that group; after all, she was pregnant.
"Susanna, this is your school's project. Don't you care at all?" Elaine kept questioning her.
"It's not my concern."
Susanna's face remained cold, displaying an indifferent expression that rendered Elaine speechless. Susanna appeared to be a completely different person, elusive and enigmatic.
Elaine gritted her teeth and said, "Susanna, don't get too smug."
"Sorry. I love it when you can't stand me but can't do anything about it. Goodbye!" Susanna said.
Susanna turned and walked away with a sarcastic smile.
Elaine, furious, stomped her feet and turned to Erica. "That bitch ran off. Erica, she is becoming harder and harder to deal with. Why is she so arrogant? She doesn't take us seriously at all."
Erica's expression darkened. She knew why Susanna had suddenly become so arrogant—it was because she had hooked up with Austin and Justin.
She had underestimated Susanna's charm. However, she was determined to find a way to teach Susanna a lesson.
As Erica thought about that, she immediately made a phone call. "Mark Evans, this is Erica. I heard our group is developing a piece of land in Lindwell. I'd like to gain some experience. Can I come to the branch office to learn more about it?"
The middle-aged man on the other end quickly replied, "Of course, Miss Erica. You're always welcome to visit and experience life at the company."
"Sorry to bother you." Erica pretended to be thoughtful.
After hanging up, Erica coldly said, "I won't let Susanna stay smug for long."
Elaine smirked. "Erica, this is a good chance to show Susanna a lesson. If she can't move, that poor girl will definitely come begging for mercy."
Erica inwardly sneered, 'How could someone like Susanna, a lowly ant, compete with me?'
Back at home, Susanna suddenly found her three cousins sitting neatly on the sofa, looking at her.
Susanna hesitated. "Brian, Daniel, Justin, is there something you need?"
Justin was the first to speak. "Well, Susanna, I have some good news. I won a hundred million in the lottery recently."
"Really?"
Susanna was stunned. She hadn't expected someone around her to win the lottery. She smiled and said, "Congratulations!"
"It's no big deal. I invested the money in an entertainment company, and it's about to go public. I guess I can call myself pretty rich now." Justin rubbed his nose and said, "And Daniel here started a company. It's making quite a bit of money now."
Brian chimed in, "Susanna, I opened several piano education institutions in Novaria. They're now a chain and going public. I'm financially free."
Susanna blinked as she heard her cousins' success stories. "I'm so jealous. Why is everyone except me getting rich? But I'm still happy for you all!"
Justin patted her head. "Susanna, we want you to know that you don't have to worry about money in the future. Come back to Novaria with us and live a carefree life as a wealthy young lady."
After the kidnapping incident, Justin felt that Susanna had been living too cautiously. He didn't want to keep pretending to be who he wasn't; he wanted to be someone his sister could rely on.
