Chapter 523 Some People Just Need a Lesson

Susanna was a bit taken aback when she spotted Maud.

Maud was in a pretty good mood, like something awesome had just happened.

Strutting over with a designer bag, Maud sneered, "Susanna, you think controlling Aaron means I can't get Calum out? Keep dreaming."

Susanna raised an eyebrow. "I've never controlled Aaron. Besides, he's not the kind of guy who can be controlled."

"Cut the act, Susanna. To marry into the Abbott Family, you tricked Maria. And now you're using the same tricks to get Aaron wrapped around your finger, almost wrecking my family. What's your game?"

Susanna felt a bit impatient with Maud's wild accusations.

With a half-smile, Susanna said, "You say I have ulterior motives and control Aaron. What about the women you liked before, Erica and Vivian? Is that your idea of good judgment?"

Maud's face went pale with anger. "What are you getting at?"

"You've always looked down on me and tried to push me around. But whether I was an orphan back then or the heir to the Jones Family now, I'm never bowing down to you. Deal with it."

"Susanna, how dare you! I'm Aaron's mother. If you remarry him, I'll still be your mother-in-law!"

Susanna's smile was sarcastic. "I never said I would remarry him. And even if I did, do you think your words could scare me? Save your breath."

Maud's expression turned sour.

Susanna's red lips curved slightly. "Honestly, a woman like you, who's jealous and lacks any real skills, can only feel important by pushing your daughter-in-law around? That's just sad."

With that, Susanna turned and walked away, ignoring Maud behind her.

Maud's expression kept changing. Susanna was still so infuriating!

"Aunt Maud, why do you look so upset?" A woman wearing a mask walked out, followed by several bodyguards.

Maud quickly composed herself when she saw her. "Nothing, just ran into Susanna. Her attitude is still so arrogant, it drives me nuts. I don't get why Aaron likes her."

"Aunt Maud, you can't force matters of the heart. As Mr. Abbott's mother, you shouldn't personally deal with those women; it lowers your status."

Maud snorted coldly, "Ms. Benjamin, you're right. A woman like Susanna, even if she gets rich, her orphan nature can't be changed. She doesn't deserve to marry into the Abbott Family."

The masked woman gave a knowing smile and glanced at Susanna's back before leaving. 'Long time no see.'

Susanna walked a few steps and suddenly felt an uncomfortable gaze from behind.

She turned to look but only saw Maud standing in the elevator with a young woman beside her. The closing elevator doors blocked her view, making it unclear who it was.

Susanna's eyes showed a hint of doubt. Maud's tone just now seemed like Calum was fine.

She took out her phone and messaged her secretary to check on Calum's recent situation.

The Thornberry Family had just gone bankrupt, and they would surely chase Calum to get back all the money he had taken.

Maud had spent a ton on Calum before; maybe she was bailing him out again.

After giving these instructions, Susanna hurried over to Amelia. "How's your mom doing? Everything okay?"

"I don't know; the doctor's still in there. If something happens to her, what am I gonna do?"

Susanna tried to comfort her. "Stay strong. Your mom's tough; she'll pull through this."

Paige had been Owen's rock from the start. If she didn't have the guts, she wouldn't have helped Owen get to where he was now.

Even though she was behind the scenes now, Susanna knew Paige wasn't someone to mess with.

Amelia gave a bitter smile. "But my mom loves my dad so much. Their relationship seemed perfect. Then Vivian showed up and wrecked everything, making me realize how unpredictable people can be."

Susanna was quiet for a moment. "Don't overthink it now. Let's wait until your mom's surgery is done."

"Susanna, I swear I'm gonna make Vivian disappear. I can't stand my dad's nonsense anymore." Amelia had never felt such hatred.

Coming back home, she thought she'd start a happy life, but instead, she hit this roadblock.

Amelia wiped her tears. "Our family's a mess because of Vivian. If she were gone, things would go back to normal."

"You're so naive." Vivian rolled in on a wheelchair, wearing a hospital gown but looking pretty smug.

Susanna frowned at the sight of Vivian. It seemed Paige's illness was because Vivian had spilled the beans.

Amelia was livid. "You witch, how dare you show up here? Get lost!"

Vivian smirked. "I can go wherever I want in this hospital. Who are you to stop me? Besides, I'm just here to see if your mom's been scared to death."

Susanna quickly grabbed Amelia's hand. "Calm down; don't let her get to you."

It was clear Vivian was trying to provoke her.

But Amelia couldn't hold back. She rushed over, slapped Vivian, and even knocked over the wheelchair.

Pointing at Vivian, she yelled, "With your trashy background, you think you can join the Richardson Family? Dream on. My family's what it is today because of my mom and grandparents. You won't get a dime."

Vivian sneered. "But if it weren't for Dad, the Richardson Family wouldn't be what it is today. That money belongs to him too."

"If it weren't for my mom, my dad's family would've gone bankrupt ages ago. He always relies on my mom. That money belongs to my mom, and you have no claim to it!"

Just then, Owen walked out with a dark expression. "Amelia, how dare you talk like that! So disrespectful!"

Seeing Owen, Susanna realized why Vivian had provoked Amelia.
