Chapter 74 Confession
Erica looked at Austin, even though she knew she was just a replacement for the Jones family's daughter. But she had lived the life of a rich girl over these years.
Erica thought that Edward had agreed to her marriage to Aaron, and Austin would definitely agree to the surgery.
But in the next second, Austin coldly said, "No."
Austin thought about Susanna working as a nurse for the Abbott family and Aaron's feelings for her. He absolutely wouldn't let the Abbott family get involved with the Jones family.
Erica was puzzled. "Why? Edward has agreed."
"Edward's agreement is his own business. Since you want to marry Aaron so badly, I've said what I needed to say. It's up to you. But I never agreed to perform surgery on anyone from the Abbott family!" Austin rejected.
"Austin, are you not even going to listen to Edward's words?" Erica threatened. She couldn't believe that Austin actually disagreed!
Austin said coldly, "I made myself clear just now. You can marry whoever you want, but I didn't agree to do this surgery."
"Austin, if you don't agree to do this surgery, then how am I going to get married to Aaron?" Erica asked.
"You said you had a good relationship with Aaron, didn't you? If I don't perform this surgery, won't he still marry you?" Austin retorted.
Erica panicked as she approached Austin, tightly gripping his hand. "Austin, it's not like that. But why won't you perform this surgery for Mrs. Abbott? After all, we're family. You were the ones who brought me here, and you said you would treat me just like your biological sister. I've never asked anything of you. This surgery is clearly simple. Austin, can't you even perform surgery for my sake?" Erica pleaded.
Austin directly pulled his hand out, feeling somewhat disappointed. "There's no room for negotiation in this matter."
Austin turned around and left the consultation room, leaving Erica behind. He went to a secure area to make a phone call. "Edward, did you agree to Erica marrying Aaron?"
Edward had been in a meeting, but he paused to respond. "Yes, I promised her before that if she ever needed anything in the future, I would help her as long as she behaved well toward Jane. Yesterday, Erica proposed to marry Aaron, and since she insisted on it, I agreed."
"Edward, Aaron is not a good person. The reason he agreed to marry Erica is also to have me perform the surgery for Mrs. Abbott. He's very dishonest. Although Erica is not our biological sister, is it appropriate for her to marry into that family?" Austin asked.
"Austin, this is her choice," Edward replied.
Austin fell silent for a moment. "Edward, you also know that Susanna used to work as a caregiver for the Abbott family, and Aaron definitely had some feelings for her. If Erica marries Aaron, he will definitely have contact with our family in the future. I don't want to be publicized by the Abbott family, saying that Susanna used to work as their maid."
Edward frowned slightly. "You make a valid point. If she really intends to marry Aaron, then we'll sever the adoption relationship with Erica."
"That's fine," Austin said.
Austin hung up the phone and he thought to himself, 'After all, Erica had lived with the Jones family for so many years and hasn't suffered. Naturally, they had to prioritize Susanna, who had suffered alone for so many years.'
Austin immediately called Susanna. "Susanna, I just finished my work. Where are you?"
"I'm sitting in the lobby on the ground floor," Susanna replied.
"Alright, I'll come find you right away," Eric said as he ended up on the phone.
Susanna hung up the phone on the other end. She looked up and saw Erica walking out of the elevator, seeming somewhat disappointed.
Susanna thought, 'Wasn't Erica just so arrogant earlier? What is this despicable woman doing coming to the hospital?'
Susanna watched as Erica left the hospital, but she couldn't think of a reason why.
Shortly afterward, Austin also came out of the elevator and walked straight toward her. "Susanna, I asked the doctors over there. It might just be due to excessive mental stress."
Susanna nodded. "I know, the doctor told me."
"Susanna, how could you have such high mental stress? Tell me about it." Austin said and sat next to her. "Susanna, are you hiding something from us?"
Austin thought that although they had found their biological sister---Susanna, they still felt a distance between them.
Susanna lowered her eyelids and thought about Maria's situation before speaking up. "It's nothing, really. I'm just worried about my friend's relative who needs surgery."
Austin coughed, and he said, "So that's it. You should have told me earlier. I just called my friend, and he agreed to perform the surgery for your friend's relative."
"Really?" Susanna was pleasantly surprised.
"Susanna, but my friend is a bit busy. I'll accompany you to the hospital to visit your friend's relative and also look at the medical records to understand the situation. That way, he can start the surgery as soon as possible." Austin suggested.
Susanna paused. Austin wanted to accompany her to visit Maria, and she might not be able to hide it anymore.
She looked up and said, "Austin, can't your friend go instead? I mean, for such an important surgery, it would be better if he goes to check it out."
Austin looked a bit uneasy. If he had gone personally, Susanna might have discovered his true identity.
Last time at the hospital, Austin's identity was almost exposed. Fortunately, Susanna was naive, so she didn't suspect anything.
This situation was a bit difficult.
For a moment, both Susanna and Austin fell into silence.
Austin started to think quickly about how he could avoid exposing his identity while still being able to perform the surgery for Susanna's friend's relative.
Finally, Susanna broke the silence and said, "Austin, I must confess to you. My friend's relative is Maria."
Austin's hand froze, and he frowned. "Isn’t Maria Aaron's grandmother?"
Susanna nodded. "Yes, it's her."
Austin suddenly screamed. Susanna referred to her as Maria, so it seemed like they had a good relationship.
Just now, Erica came to find Austin and asked him to perform surgery on Aaron's grandmother, but he refused. He didn't expect that Susanna was also helping Aaron's grandmother find a doctor!
Susanna hesitated and looked at Austin. "Austin, what's wrong?"
Austin coughed lightly. "Nothing. I'm just a bit surprised. I didn't expect that the elder you mentioned was from the Abbott family. But with their status and position, why would they need you to find a doctor?"
Austin narrowed his eyes slightly. He had a feeling that Aaron might be deliberately manipulating Susanna. After all, she was an innocent and kind-hearted girl.
Susanna lowered her eyelids. "They originally didn't need help because someone had found a famous doctor from Novaria. However, something went wrong later. That doctor had initially agreed to perform the surgery, but now he declined it."
Austin's expression became a little awkward, wondering if the famous doctor from Novaria that Susanna mentioned was him.
