Chapter 548 Mr. Abbott Getting Jealous Nearby

Vivian watched Susanna on stage, her eyes practically glowing green with envy, convinced she was just as good, if not better.

She was so mad she could've spit nails. "Susanna only got her business off the ground because of the Jones Family's money and connections," she scoffed. "If she was an orphan, do you really think she'd be where she is now? You're so naive."

"But Susanna's got talent. She did all these designs herself."

Vivian rolled her eyes. "Talent's a dime a dozen. Without the Jones Family's backing, she wouldn't have made it this far."

She leaned in closer, lowering her voice. "You're defending Susanna, but don't you see she's just using you to get at me? Do you really think she's a good person?"

Amelia looked at Vivian's jealous face and smiled. "Is it so hard for you to admit someone else is good at something? Dad always said to learn from others' strengths and that hard work can make up for a lack of talent. Jealousy gets you nowhere."

Owen chimed in, "Amelia's right. Look at Ms. Jones. She kept her success under wraps until she was ready. You both could learn a thing or two from her."

Vivian's face turned red with anger. She didn't want to learn anything from Susanna and believed that with the Jones Family's backing, she'd be way better than Susanna.

Owen turned to Amelia. "You should get on good terms with Ms. Jones."

He'd just seen how Aaron acted around Susanna. The rumors about them never seeing each other again after the divorce were clearly off. Aaron still had feelings for Susanna and might even want to get back together.

Plus, Aaron's attitude towards Vivian showed she had no real pull in the Abbott Family.

Owen was kicking himself for believing Vivian's lies and bringing her into the Richardson Family.

Vivian whispered, "Dad, didn't you say we should cut ties with the Jones Family since we're teaming up with the Abbott Family?"

"Shut up. When did I ever say that? The Jones and Abbott Families are practically one, with their marriage and kid."

Vivian was still sulking. "Dad, they divorced five years ago. There's no way they're getting back together."

Amelia laughed. "Are you sure about that? Do you really think Aaron would pick you over Susanna?"

Vivian snapped back, "Why not? I'm the president's daughter. Why wouldn't Aaron want me?"

Amelia sneered, "Don't forget about the kid you had with Aaron. If Aaron has any sense, he wouldn't choose you."

Owen nodded. "Vivian, you need to get on good terms with the Abbott Family and speak well of Susanna. Got it?"

Vivian felt like she shouldn't have come to this investment banquet at all.

By the time Susanna finished her speech, the banquet was halfway over.

She mingled with her business partners.

Aaron watched from a distance, his face darkening as he saw a man hovering around Susanna. He stood there, gripping his champagne glass tightly, his eyes never leaving Susanna as several men tried to win her favor.

Sam, with his chin propped on his hand, nudged Aaron. "Dude, you gonna make a move or what? If you don't, someone else is gonna swoop in and take Susanna."

Maud stormed over, fuming. "Aaron, look at Susanna. She's surrounded by all these men, acting all flirty. Haven't you seen her true colors yet?"

Aaron shot back, "The fact that so many great guys are around her just shows how amazing she is."

With that, he walked off, champagne in hand, leaving Maud seething.

Sam chuckled. "Aunt Maud, why's it so hard for you to admit someone else is awesome? Having such a stellar daughter-in-law should make you proud, not threatened. Respect goes both ways, you know."

He couldn't wrap his head around why Maud had it out for Susanna.

When Susanna was an orphan, it might be that rich families had high standards. But now that she was part of the Jones Family and had a solid status, Maud's attitude still hadn't changed.

Maud snapped, "What do you know? You're not even married."

"But Aunt Maud, have you thought about what good it does you to tick off Susanna if they do get back together?"

"I don't need you to tell me how to live. I just think Susanna isn't right for Aaron."

With that, Maud turned and stormed off. Elaine hurried after her, whining, "Are you just gonna leave? Aren't you gonna introduce me to those ladies? I need them to know me better."

Maud sneered, "Your behavior earlier already turned them off. You still think you can marry into a wealthy family? What a joke."

Elaine felt a pang of guilt. "Then can you help me book the Velvet Sky Ballroom for an event? Didn't you promise me before we came?"

Maud looked at Elaine like she was crazy.

She sneered, "Susanna owns the Velvet Sky Ballroom. Do you really think she'd let you hold an event there? You might have no shame, but I do."

Maud would never beg Susanna.

Elaine wanted to chase after her, but with her injured ankle, she couldn't move fast and could only stomp her foot in frustration.

She hadn't expected Susanna to own the Velvet Sky Ballroom. Who would've thought she'd become so powerful?

She watched Susanna standing in the center of the crowd, like a queen, and felt a stab of jealousy.

Who would've thought that the timid girl she used to boss around in the Abbott Family would now be the most dazzling person in the room?

While Susanna was chatting with everyone, a guy kept butting in, trying to show off his knowledge, making her uncomfortable.

"Ms. Jones, I feel a strong connection with you. Why don't we exchange contact info and discuss our collaboration later?"

Susanna had no intention of giving out her contact info.

She swirled her glass and said, "If you want to discuss business, contact my secretary or come to my office."

"Ms. Jones, we're pretty close now. Can't you give me your personal contact info?"

"My personal contact info isn't just for anyone."

"Ms. Jones, even though your Velvet Sky Ballroom is successful, there are still areas where I can offer guidance. In business, you need to get out and grow your company."

Susanna's eyes turned cold, and just as she was about to speak, Aaron's icy voice cut in, "Even beggars get out and about every day."
