Chapter 482 Threat
Susanna peeked at the message from Amelia, a sly grin spreading across her red lips.
She turned to the secretary riding shotgun. "Hey, find a way to drop a hint to Amelia about Owen and Vivian."
"Should we just spill the beans that Vivian's Owen's secret kid?"
"Nah, don't be so blunt. Amelia will smell something fishy. Just hint that Owen met up with some young chick and her kid tonight and set them up real nice."
Susanna wanted Amelia to think Vivian was Owen's side piece and that Roman was his love child.
Amelia, being from a rich family, should know how to deal with mistresses, right?
Vivian thought she was living the high life as the president's daughter? Susanna was about to show her what the real deal looked like.
She figured Vivian wouldn't keep her cool for long, given her big dreams and all.
Sure, she promised Owen she wouldn't spill the beans about Vivian for now, but if Vivian outed herself, that was on her.
Susanna put her phone down and told the secretary, "Head to the research institute."
She hadn't seen Charles in a few days.
The car made a U-turn and headed to the research institute.
Not far behind, a sleek black luxury car followed suit.
Aaron sat in the back, watching the car ahead make the turn. "Did she spot us?"
The assistant in the front seat hesitated. "Doubt it. We've been keeping our distance, and there are two other cars covering us. Shouldn't be that easy to notice."
Aaron squinted, staying silent for a moment.
The assistant asked cautiously, "Should we keep following?"
"Yeah, keep at it."
Aaron kept his eyes on the car ahead. He was dying to know where she was headed.
Even if she knew he was tailing her, so what?
He asked in a low voice, "Did the hospital find any clues about the bone marrow?"
He was almost sure now that Lillian wasn't sick. The person Susanna was trying to get him to donate bone marrow for wasn't Lillian.
So, was Susanna hiding another kid?
This suspicion kept Aaron up at night.
But no matter how hard he dug, he couldn't find any trace of another child. Everyone only knew Susanna had a daughter, no mention of any other kids.
None of her six brothers had kids either.
Aaron stared at the car ahead, thinking, 'Susanna, what else are you hiding from me?'
In the car ahead, Susanna's ears were burning. Why did she suddenly have a bad feeling?
She looked out the window. The city lights looked so warm and cozy.
Back when she was an orphan, she always envied those happy family scenes.
But now, with her brothers, Charles, and Lillian, she didn't feel lonely at all.
Soon, the car pulled up at the research institute.
Susanna got out and walked in like she owned the place.
Not far behind, Aaron's car stopped. He glanced at the white building nearby. "What's this place?"
"Looks like a research institute. Hold on, let me check."
The assistant pulled out his phone and checked. "Boss, this place is owned by Michael."
Michael?
Hearing Michael's name, Aaron's face turned icy. So, she ditched the idea of going home after the banquet and came here to see Michael? What the hell for?
Aaron's lips pressed into a thin, cold line as he pulled out his phone and dialed Susanna's number.
Inside, Susanna had just walked into the research institute. She glanced at the caller ID—Aaron. They had a pretty nasty fallout at the banquet earlier. Why was he calling now?
Susanna looked at the phone and tossed it into her bag, not planning to answer. When she was with the kids, the secretary knew better than to let work stuff bug her unless it was super important.
She changed into sterile clothing and walked into the area where Charles was hospitalized. She saw Charles sitting in a chair, fingers flying over the keyboard.
Susanna saw a string of numbers pop up on the computer screen. Charles looked serious and focused. "Hold the left side, let them in the middle. I'll handle it."
Soon, the numbers on the screen changed, showing Charles had taken care of business.
Susanna had picked up some coding from Arthur, so she got what the numbers meant. She clapped her hands. "Nice job."
Hearing her voice, Charles immediately turned off his mic and said, trying to sound all grown-up, "Mommy, why didn't you knock? I need my privacy too."
Seeing Charles's serious face, Susanna pinched his cheek. "You were so into it. I was worried knocking might mess you up and make you lose."
Charles swung his short legs, eyes flickering. "That guy hasn't left yet, has he?"
"Which guy?"
Susanna looked at Charles, thinking of Aaron.
Charles's face tightened. "That jerk."
"Charles, you mean Aaron, right? How do you know he hasn't left?"
Susanna had only realized Aaron was still around when she saw him at the banquet today. Not only was he still around, but he also wanted to compete with her for the project.
Charles spoke seriously, "Mommy, need me to teach him a lesson? Is he bugging you?"
Susanna squatted in front of Charles. "This is grown-up stuff. I can handle it. You don't need to get involved."
Charles lowered his head, not saying a word. She could tell he felt awkward.
She patiently said, "Charles, you seem to have a lot of beef with Aaron. Can you tell me why?"
"No, I don't care about his bone marrow donation."
Charles always saw himself as the man of the house. He had decided from a young age that he would deal with Aaron, who had ditched him and Susanna, when he grew up.
But he never expected he'd need Aaron's bone marrow to survive!
Seeing Charles's awkward expression, Susanna knew what he was thinking.
She patted his head. "Charles, you don't need to feel weird about the bone marrow. As your dad, it's his job to do this."
"What if he tries to use it to threaten you?"
"Don't sweat it. In Philadelphia, he can't touch me."
Charles still looked awkward.
Susanna continued, "He doesn't even know you exist. How could he use this to threaten me?"
Just as she finished speaking, a commotion erupted outside, and all the security guards rushed over.
