Chapter 226 Divorce
Susanna recognizedhe was probably the dean of the music academy.
As she bit her lip, unsure of what to say, Aaron calmly replied, "Nothing special. This is my wife. Please take good care of her at school."
Susanna's mind went blank. 'What is he talking about?' Her thoughts were a jumbled mess.
Staring at Aaron in disbelief, Susanna's mind raced. Hadn't he always insisted on keeping their marriage a secret in public? Why was he now announcing it in front of everyone? Was he out of his mind?
For a moment, everyone in the room was stunned, except for the smiling principal and a displeased Brian, who glared at Aaron.
The middle-aged man quickly raised his wine glass and said to Susanna, "I'm sorry, Mrs. Abbott. That was my mistake. Please don't take offense. I promise I won't say a word about this."
The others also vowed to keep quiet.
Susanna forced a polite but uneasy smile. She couldn't shake the feeling that in a place like a school, secrets spread faster than wildfire.
She had always kept a low profile, just trying to earn her credits and get out of Lindwell. But with Aaron causing a scene, how could she stay under the radar?
Was he deliberately revealing her identity as Mrs. Abbott? What was he trying to achieve?
Susanna glared at Aaron, but he looked at her calmly and said, "Don't worry, I'll support you. No one will dare to bully you."
'Is that the point?' she wondered as she watched Aaron pour her a drink,
questioning if he had lost his mind.
But then, a pair of hands reached over and stopped Aaron.
Brian took her glass and looked at Aaron with displeasure. "Sorry, Susanna doesn't drink. It's bad for her health. Don't you know that?"
Aaron paused, then put down the bottle. "Sorry, I thought you weren't allergic to drinks."
Susanna looked at the mango juice in front of her and smirked, "I used to be, but now I am."
After all, she was pregnant and couldn't drink.
Aaron didn't get angry. He called the waiter, "Susanna, order whatever you like."
Brian added calmly, "Susanna prefers lighter dishes, like this one."
He ordered several dishes without hesitation.
Caught in the middle, Susanna felt incredibly awkward as she stared at the mountain of food. She couldn't even fake a smile.
She felt the coldness from Aaron beside her. His voice was icy. "Mr. Jones, you seem very concerned about my wife. I know she's amazing, but she's married. You don't stand a chance."
Susanna's face heated up. Aaron had misunderstood her relationship with Brian.
After Aaron's words, everyone looked at Brian with curiosity.
Susanna almost couldn't stay calm.
Brian, however, calmly picked up a fork. "Susanna, try this. It's good."
"Susanna, this one is good too."
Susanna eyed the heaping plate of food and dug in, knowing her two little ones needed the nourishment.
With a shrug, she decided to enjoy the meal. Who cared about others' opinions? If anyone should feel embarrassed, it was Aaron. This was his mess to clean up, not hers.
"Susanna, try this dessert. It's amazing," Brian said, giving Aaron a smug look.
Aaron glanced at the dessert and said calmly, "She can't eat that."
Brian asked. "Why not?"
"Because it contains alcohol."
Aaron looked at Susanna, wondering, 'Doesn't Brian know she's pregnant?'
Susanna caught Aaron's hint. As a pregnant woman, she couldn't have anything with alcohol. She glanced at the dessert. "I'm full. I won't eat the dessert."
Brian, unaware of her pregnancy, put down the dessert, satisfied that she was full.
Aaron narrowed his eyes slightly, placing one hand on the back of Susanna's chair. "Since you're full, let's go home."
Susanna was stunned. Was Aaron still acting crazy?
Aaron's arm on her chair almost felt like he was holding her.
Brian pushed Aaron's arm away. "Stay away from Susanna!"
Sensing the tension, the principal quickly interjected, "It's normal for a couple to head home after a meal. Your reaction seems a bit much, don't you think?"
The principal had already picked a side. Aaron was the wealthiest man in Lindwell; the Jones family from Novaria couldn't compare to the prestigious Abbott family.
Brian sneered, "What couple? They're divorced. What are you pretending?"
The principal was shocked to hear the word "divorce."
Remaining composed, Aaron met Brian's gaze steadily. "Just a reminder, Brian, we're still finalizing our divorce. Legally, she's still my wife."
Aaron's eyes were cold, asserting his authority.
The atmosphere in the room shifted instantly. The principal quickly motioned for the others to leave. It was clear that the less they knew, the better. In such delicate circumstances, ignorance was bliss.
They hadn't expected Mrs. Abbott to be so popular, with even the Jones family pursuing her.
The room quickly quieted down as others departed.
Brian angrily pointed at Aaron. "You're in the process of getting a divorce, which means you're already divorced. If you harass Susanna, I'll personally send you to jail!"
Brian had never feared the law, especially since he had a lawyer brother.
Seeing the situation deteriorate, Susanna pulled Brian's arm. "Forget it, let's go."
From above, Aaron's voice pierced the air. "Susanna!"
Instinctively, she looked up, getting lost in his eyes that seemed to conceal a myriad of emotions. This time, his eyes held mysteries beyond her comprehension.
Aaron said softly, "I have a few words to say to you."
Brian looked at him warily. "Just say it to me. Don't threaten Susanna!"
Susanna was silent for a moment, then spoke, "Whatever you want to say, say it here."
Finally, Aaron pursed his lips and said, "Grandma has been missing you. You've been so busy lately that you haven't visited her."
Susanna tugged at the corners of her mouth, a wry smile playing on her lips. So, it all boiled down to Maria. In Aaron's eyes, she had always been nothing more than a means to bring joy to Maria.
She agreed, "Okay, I understand. Anything else?"
Aaron's hand on the table slowly clenched, his throat moving up and down. After much thought, the words finally reached his lips.
