Chapter 280 She Did It on Purpose
Susanna didn't expect the ground to be so slippery and yelped in surprise.
"Watch out!"
"Susanna!"
Aaron and Jack both reached out, grabbing her.
Feeling a slight groan and discomfort, Susanna realized she had grabbed Aaron's injured hand.
She remembered he hurt it the night before, protecting her during a sudden stop in the rain.
Quickly, she let go of Aaron and held onto Jack to avoid hurting Aaron further.
But Aaron saw it differently. As she let go of him and turned to Jack, his mood darkened.
Aaron glared at Jack. Why were there always guys around her? First Dick from Epic Horizon, now Jack.
Once steady, Susanna sighed in relief and looked at Jack. "Thanks."
Jack felt awkward. "No problem. The floor is really slippery."
He regretted suggesting they come to this pizza place.
"Don't worry about it. I haven't had spicy pizza from here in ages. It's nice to come back," Susanna said.
She was eating lightly, trying to gauge Aaron's reaction, almost slipping in the process.
She glanced at Aaron. He had stopped coughing, but his face was still flushed, struggling with the spicy air.
They moved to a private room upstairs where it was better.
Jack handed over the menu. "Susanna, order whatever you like."
"Let's get the popular spicy pizza, a vegetable salad, and some soup," Susanna suggested. She knew she couldn't handle too much spice, so she'd stick to the veggies.
Jack passed the menu to Aaron. "Mr. Abbott, you should order too."
Aaron saw the light dishes Susanna picked, matching his mild taste. It seemed she still cared.
Feeling better, Aaron said, "No need, what she ordered is fine."
Jack paused. "Seems Susanna knows Mr. Abbott's preferences well."
Susanna stayed silent, thinking, 'I didn't consider Aaron at all. I just ordered what I wanted.'
But Aaron's taste matched hers, and she didn't expect him to be so presumptuous.
After ordering, silence filled the room. Susanna sat between Aaron and Jack, feeling Aaron's gaze.
Feeling awkward, she turned to Jack. "What brings you to the school today?"
"There's a startup event. I'm here to scout for investment opportunities," Jack replied.
"How did it go? Our school's startup events are always a hit. Some projects have even gone public," Susanna said.
"Yeah, our company invested in one of those. We've always had a good relationship with your school. A senior from your design school started a business, and we backed it. Unfortunately, he got arrested for various violations and economic crimes. Such a shame," Jack added.
Susanna remembered. Wasn't he talking about Dick from Epic Horizon?
Thinking about Dick's downfall, she felt a bit regretful. If he hadn't broken the law, the company might have thrived.
She sighed, and Jack continued, "You worked at Epic Horizon, right? I heard they brought in a master. Was that you?"
"Yeah, but I didn't expect it to end like that. It's a real pity."
Aaron's cold voice cut in, "What's there to pity? Dick had poor character and ability. He brought it on himself."
Aaron thought of Dick, who had once coveted Susanna. How presumptuous!
Jack was puzzled. How did Aaron know? He needed to dig into this back at the company.
He smiled and said, "Mr. Abbott is right. The food's here, let's eat."
As Susanna smelled the familiar aroma, she couldn't help but swallow. It had been a long time since she had this spicy pizza.
She took a bite. "Still the same taste, delicious."
Even though she knew she couldn't eat much, she was satisfied and squinted in contentment.
Seeing her expression, Aaron tried the spicy pizza.
As soon as it hit his mouth, the chili overwhelmed him. He frowned, covered his mouth, and quickly grabbed a cup of water.
After drinking, he still couldn't handle the heat and started coughing uncontrollably.
Seeing Aaron's distress, Jack quickly offered a chilled beverage. "Mr. Abbott, try this. It's better than water."
Aaron eagerly took a few sips, which helped. He dabbed his mouth with a napkin, clearly not good with spicy food.
Seeing him struggle, Susanna's eyes flashed with amusement. She had purposely wanted to see Aaron's reaction.
Jack said, "Mr. Abbott seems to struggle with spicy food. There are some mild vegetables here. Susanna is thoughtful."
Susanna paused. She wasn't doing it for Aaron.
But seeing Aaron's awkward movements with his injured right hand, she chose to stay quiet.
Aaron, uncomfortable using his right hand, put down his fork and looked at Jack. "You and Susanna were high school classmates?"
