Chapter 278 What Exactly Have I Lost

Aaron, after being interrupted, glanced at Brian and then reluctantly looked at Susanna.

Susanna met his gaze and said, "I'm home now, you should go back."

Aaron frowned, "I have a few things to say to you."

His earlier intentions had been cut short by Susanna's brother, but he was determined to communicate clearly.

"Let's talk later, no rush. Edward, Brian, let's go back. It's pouring, and I'm drenched," Susanna suggested, eager to leave before another argument started.

Edward noticed Susanna was soaked from rushing over and compromised, "Let's go, change into dry clothes quickly, don't catch a cold."

Aaron could only watch as she walked away, fading from view. Standing alone in the downpour, the cold rain pelting his face, Aaron, usually confident, now looked rather forlorn under the dreary sky.

A titan in the business world, Aaron felt powerless in Susanna's presence.

Tyler picked up the umbrella and walked over, holding it over Aaron, speaking cautiously, "Mr. Abbott, the rain's getting heavier, let's go."

Aaron didn't respond. He stood there, looking at the brightly lit windows of the nearby building, emitting a warm glow.

Each day, returning to an empty home became a stark reality. The initial unease gave way to a realization of the void he now felt—the emptiness of what he had let slip away.

Meanwhile, Susanna followed her brothers into the elevator. She wiped the rain off her forehead, and Brian spoke up, "Susanna, why did you come back with Aaron today? Didn't you say you took a taxi?"

"I didn't mean to hide it, but it was hard to get a taxi in this rain, so I took his car. But don't worry, I won't be swayed by this. I've already divorced him," Susanna said calmly.

She looked at Edward, adding, "Edward, I know you're worried, but don't. I'm the heir of the Jones family now; I have everything I need."

Edward gently patted her head. "Okay, go freshen up quickly. We don't want you catching a cold."

Brian chimed in, "We won't go in with you."

Susanna nodded. After getting out of the elevator, she opened the door and went home.

As they watched Susanna leave, Edward's tender demeanor turned steely. "Keep an eye on Aaron. Until Susanna finishes her exams and leaves Lindwell, don't let him cause any trouble."

"Edward, don't worry, I'll handle it," Brian assured.

"Leaving it to you makes me even more worried. If it weren't for your mistake with Elliot, Aaron wouldn't have had the chance to send Susanna back."

Brian lowered his head, not daring to speak. Thoughts raced through his mind, 'How could this be a coincidence? Isn't Aaron the CEO? How did he find time for such trivial matters? Aaron must have a hidden agenda!'

The first thing Susanna did when she got home was take a shower and change clothes, drying her hair. Being pregnant, she couldn't afford to catch a cold.

Emerging from the bathroom and reentering the bedroom, Susanna felt an inexplicable urge to look out the window.

Peering through the glass, she strained to see the gate in the distance, but the heavy rain made everything blurry. Aaron should have left by now.

She thought about how Aaron didn't fight back when Edward hit him earlier, which made her feel a bit uneasy.

Shaking off the feeling, she rubbed her face and muttered, "I can't falter, can't give in! Compassion for a man spells trouble!"

Lounging on the bed, she grabbed her phone and checked Facebook, where a bunch of friend requests awaited. Most were from her class group, but since she didn't know them well, she hit "Ignore."

Susanna messaged Flandre: [Are you home?]

Flandre: [Yes, I am.]

Susanna: [You and Jim seemed to get along well today, looking forward to your good news.]

Flandre: [Don't jinx it. It's up to fate. Btw, did you check the class group? Everyone's shocked you're an heir and have a rich ex-husband.]

Susanna was momentarily taken aback. She had muted the group chats ages ago and hadn't kept up with the discussions. Curious, she checked the Facebook group and saw a lot of new members and activity she had missed.

Someone even messaged her:[Susanna, remember me? We were dorm mates. Missed the reunion due to family stuff. Let's catch up next time.]

[Yeah, we didn't expect Susanna to come from such a wealthy family, so low-key. Those who looked down on you must regret it now. I always said Susanna wasn't like that, but some people just wouldn't believe it.]

[I heard Lucy is now kneeling at her doorstep, about to be disowned by her family. If I had such a daughter dragging me down, I'd disown her too.]

[Jim, you should organize another reunion. Many of us couldn't attend. You can't favor some over others!]

Reading these messages, a hint of sarcasm flashed in Susanna's eyes.

She replied to Flandre: [I just skimmed through it. These people didn't care about me before, but now they act like we're close.]

Flandre: [They just know you're an heir and married into a wealthy family, trying to cozy up to you. Don't worry, I won't let Jim organize another reunion, andgive them a chance to bother you.]

Susanna finally understood what it meant to be treated differently. She also understood why everyone wanted to be wealthy.

Seeing more friend requests, she irritably exited the class group.

The next day, Susanna went to school as usual for her self-study class.

Elliot was waiting by the roadside early, nervously apologizing, "Ms. Jones, I'm really sorry about yesterday. I thought you knew I was reassigned to Edward's side."

"It's okay, let's go."

Susanna knew it was a misunderstanding and didn't blame Elliot.

She had been reading at school all morning and was about to go out for lunch when she got a call from Jack, "Susanna, I'm at your school for some business. Have you had lunch yet?"

Susanna had just reached downstairs and looked up to see a black luxury car parked by the roadside. Was this Aaron's car?
