Chapter 369 The More You Show Off, The Happier I Am
Susanna shot a glance at the bodyguard in front of her, totally caught off guard by the whole situation.
Aaron had promised to pick her up, but last minute, he got swamped with work and couldn't make it.
The Velvet Sky Ballroom was way out in the sticks, so Susanna had to get there on her own.
She smirked a bit and said, "I don't have one."
The bodyguard, all polite, replied, "Ma'am, this is a private party. No invite, no entry."
Pretty soon, the folks arriving behind her started to notice what was going down.
Susanna looked at the bodyguard and asked, "Is the privacy at Velvet Sky really that tight? No exceptions at all?"
"Sorry, ma'am. Velvet Sky takes customer privacy super seriously. Maybe you forgot your invite. You can wait in the lounge over there."
Hearing that, Susanna grinned. Looked like the staff was well-trained. She'd already heard some guests praising the bodyguard's handling of the situation.
Vivian was waiting, all anxious, but the drama she expected didn't happen. She couldn't believe Nova, who was stopped outside, wasn't even mad and was actually smiling!
Getting stopped like that, so embarrassing, what was so funny about it?
Feeling a bit salty, Vivian stepped up and told the guests who had stopped, "This way, please. Just hand me your invites."
After the guests left, Vivian held their invitations and looked at Susanna with a smug look. "Ms. Ramirez, just give me your invite later."
Susanna glanced at Vivian and asked, "Not rocking a limited edition evening dress today?"
Vivian's smug smile froze, and she gritted her teeth. "Do I need to report to you what I wear?"
Today, she planned to have Nova stopped outside and totally humiliate her.
"Who cares about what you wear? We have nothing in common with someone who doesn't even know the classic pieces of DivineDynasty."
Susanna caught a whiff of strong perfume and didn't need to guess who it was.
Elaine showed up, decked out in designer clothes that looked familiar—they were all from yesterday's fashion show. She was even wearing those slightly tight shoes Susanna had given her.
Elaine strolled over and linked arms with Susanna. "Nova, let's go in. Don't waste time on these people."
Vivian, not giving up, said, "Elaine, you can't go in without an invite."
"But everyone can bring a plus-one. I'm bringing Nova in, no problem, right?"
"But didn't you already bring someone?"
Elaine did have an assistant with her. She turned to her assistant and said, "You wait outside for a bit. I'll come get you later."
The assistant, having no choice, just nodded stiffly.
Elaine looked at Vivian with a smug look. "Nova is Aaron's girlfriend. She doesn't need an invite. Don't think just because you're here, you're really part of the Abbott family."
"Elaine, you're crossing the line."
"That's just how I roll. If you don't like it, you can leave."
Susanna stood off to the side, just watching the whole scene unfold, keeping her mouth shut. She had to hand it to Elaine; the girl knew how to push buttons, making it tough for Vivian to keep her cool without actually starting a fight.
Looked like investing in Elaine was paying off big time.
Susanna and Elaine strolled into the party. The place was already buzzing with guests, super lively.
Elaine whipped out her phone to snap some pics. "Nova, let me tell you, this Velvet Sky Ballroom just opened up. It's basically reservation-only, never open to the public. I heard the design and decor inside are all top-tier. Especially the greenery and floral designs in the banquet hall, all rare plants flown in, some even endangered species."
Listening to Elaine's detailed bragging, Susanna kept her cool inside but put on a surprised face. "Really? The banquet hall decor is so elegant and luxurious, and the exterior design is stunning too."
"Some people haven't seen it, right?"
Maud and Lvy walked over. Today, Maud was decked out in luxurious attire, looking radiant.
Maud found Susanna's bright red dress a bit too much. Why was she dressed so flashy? People who didn't know might think she was the main star.
Lvy gave Susanna a once-over and rudely said, "Ms. Ramirez, today is Maud's birthday party. Don't you think your flashy outfit is a bit inappropriate?"
Susanna raised an eyebrow and replied, "Sorry, but I can't help it. I'm naturally stunning, so anything I wear stands out."
Lvy was fuming. She really had a sharp tongue.
Elaine quickly changed the subject, buttering up Maud, "Aunt Maud, I heard the Velvet Sky Ballroom specially upgraded a custom design for you, only you can use it. Most people can't get this treatment, so envious!"
Maud immediately looked proud, touching the bracelet on her wrist. "The Velvet Sky Ballroom is indeed very considerate. Everyone is quite satisfied with the decor here. I highly recommend them for any future private events."
Lvy chimed in with more praise. "Yes, although the reservation here is a bit pricey, everything is top-notch, fitting our status. Ordinary people can't book here."
Hearing this, Susanna couldn't help but smile.
Maud was definitely showing off everywhere.
Other wealthy women, to keep up appearances, would definitely come here to host events in the future.
In this way, wouldn't her Velvet Sky Ballroom rake in the cash?
At this moment, Susanna even found Maud a bit endearing.
Maud saw Susanna smiling, feeling like she was hitting a brick wall. Nothing she said seemed to matter.
"Mrs. Maud Abbott, Ms. Sullivan has arrived."
"The Sullivan Family is here, let's go greet them. They are my honored guests."
When Maud said this, she shot a deliberate glance at Susanna, determined to make her back off.
Elaine immediately started whining, "Why did they invite the Sullivan Family, so boring."
Susanna looked at Elaine and asked, "Is Ms. Sullivan very influential?"
"Nova, don't get it twisted. Aunt Maud arranged for Ms. Sullivan to get engaged to Aaron. The two families have engagement intentions, but Aaron hasn't agreed. It's Ms. Sullivan who keeps chasing after Aaron."
Susanna raised an eyebrow, so it was a setup.
