Chapter 459 Someone Actually Dares to Impersonate
Charles looked up at her and asked, "Mom, why you asking this?"
Susanna noticed Lillian had a thing for Aaron, so she wanted to get Charles's take on it.
She grinned and said, "Oh, nothing, just curious."
"Mom, I don't wanna see him. Lillian might be swayed, but not me."
Charles was dead set; he wasn't about to call Aaron his dad.
Susanna could see Charles not only looked like Aaron but had the same stubborn streak.
So yeah, Charles wasn't budging on this Aaron thing.
They were both as stubborn as mules.
Susanna ruffled Charles's hair and said, "It's cool, whether you wanna see him or not, it's your call. I won't butt in."
"Mom, if we ever decide to acknowledge Aaron, you won't interfere either?"
Even though Susanna felt a bit bummed, she still said, "I won't."
After all, they should have a dad.
Charles said seriously, "Mom, since Aaron ditched us back then, I won't acknowledge him now. Don't fall for his sweet talk."
"I won't."
Seeing Charles grow up healthy made Susanna feel a pang of sadness. When Charles was born, they said he wouldn't make it past a month.
Now, in a blink, Charles was already four.
During dinner, the angry Lillian made up with Charles, like their fight never happened.
Susanna glanced at her phone and saw a missed call from her assistant.
She stepped outside to call back and asked, "What's up?"
"Ms. Jones, you asked me to keep tabs on Mr. Abbott? He went straight to the Abbott Group's branch today, probably dealing with the Thornberry family stuff."
"Okay, got it."
Susanna hung up, guessing Aaron would handle it, but since it involved Calum, it wouldn't be a walk in the park.
Anyway, Aaron was gonna be super busy.
A day later, at a swanky hotel.
Aaron had been swamped with group affairs, having been MIA for a few days, and there was a mountain of work needing his signature.
After wrapping up a video call, he glanced at Tyler and asked, "When's the signing with the Thornberry family?"
"At 2 PM, at the XX Hotel."
"Everything set?"
Aaron's eyes went cold. No way was he letting the Abbott Group's branch team up with the Thornberry family.
He'd never really managed the Philly branch's stuff before.
The Jones family had been squashing the subsidiary's business, and he knew why, so he never pushed for performance.
But still, he didn't wanna team up with a company like the Thornberry Corporation.
Sam looked at Aaron and asked, "Any word from your mom's side?"
A few days ago, Aaron went to the branch saying he wanted to cut ties.
Logically, Maud would definitely step in.
Before Aaron could answer, his phone rang, and it was Maud.
He waved his phone and said, "Speak of the devil."
Sam coughed and said, "Just a coincidence, man."
Aaron looked at the phone but didn't pick up.
He didn't need to answer to know what Maud wanted, but he wasn't agreeing this time.
Aaron pocketed the phone and headed out.
After getting in the car, Sam asked, "Aaron, you think Susanna will show?"
Aaron's lips barely moved as he said, "No clue."
Sam pulled out his phone and said, "I'll give her a ring."
Aaron shot him a look and said, "I got this."
"I know you do, man. I just want her to catch the show. She'll kick herself if she misses it. Watching the Thornberry family crash and burn? Priceless."
Soon enough, Susanna's phone buzzed with a call from Sam.
She picked up, "What's up?"
"Did you forget what day it is? Come out and watch the fireworks."
She knew exactly what Sam meant by "fireworks."
A bit puzzled, she asked, "Didn't Aaron say the deal with the Thornberry family was off? Why's there still a signing ceremony today?"
She'd thought there wouldn't be any signing, so she was kinda bummed she wouldn't get to see the Thornberry family get roasted.
But to her surprise, the signing was still on.
Sam explained, "Yeah, it was supposed to be off, but you know how stubborn Calum is. Aaron's gonna drop the bomb right there."
"Oh, got it. This should be fun."
"So, you coming to see the Thornberry family get what's coming to them?"
Susanna chuckled, "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
No way she was missing this!
Rumors were flying that the Thornberry and Abbott families were teaming up to squash the Jones family. If she saw the Thornberry family get humiliated today, those rumors would die on the spot.
After hanging up, Susanna turned to her assistant and said, "I'm heading out, cancel the afternoon meeting."
The assistant asked, "Ms. Jones, are you going to the Thornberry signing ceremony?"
"Yep, can't miss this show."
Susanna grabbed her bag and bolted out of the office. She was itching to see the Thornberry family get what they deserved!
They'd been spreading rumors about her marrying into their family!
She wasn't blind; no way was she interested in Roman.
Susanna hopped in a car and headed straight to the hotel for the signing ceremony, getting there in under ten minutes since it was in the commercial CBD center.
When she arrived, she saw a bunch of reporters outside.
Looked like the Thornberry family had pulled out all the stops!
As soon as Susanna stepped out, Kayle strutted over with a smug look. She asked, "Susanna, why'd you come alone? Where's your broke bodyguard?"
"He should be on his way, not here yet."
"Not here yet? Susanna, feeling guilty? He's your bodyguard, how could he not be with you? Clearly, you're feeling guilty."
Susanna replied seriously, "As the president of the Abbott Group, he's got a ton of work. He can't always be by my side playing bodyguard."
Just then, Roman swaggered over, looking all smug. He said, "Susanna, still lying, huh? Didn't you say he was the president of the Abbott Group? Mr. Ross is here today; call him over and let's see."
Kayle chimed in, "Yeah, Susanna's feeling guilty."
Susanna was taken aback and asked, "You said Mr. Ross is here?"
That didn't add up; wasn't Sam with Aaron?
They should still be on their way.
Roman pointed to the young guy next to him and said, "Yep, let me introduce you, this is Mr. Ross!"
"You say he's Sam?"
"Yep, he's Sam, Sam Ross. Susanna, take a good look, it's him."
Susanna eyed the young guy next to Roman. This was Sam?
No way. Someone was actually pretending to be Sam and scamming people in Philly?
