Chapter 184 Better to Be a Love Expert and Keep Backup Options

Aaron's face went stiff when he heard the news. He couldn't believe it! Susanna actually went to the hospital to take care of Dick!

Aaron yanked at his tie. "That's just perfect, really perfect!"

He had just chewed out Dick, and now Susanna rushed to the hospital to look after him, completely ignoring Aaron!

Could it be that Susanna really liked Dick? But didn't she say last time that she didn't?

"Can't trust what women say," Aaron thought to himself.

The hotel room's atmosphere turned icy. Aaron's expression was cold, and Tyler beside him was too scared to say a word.

Tyler realized that informing the boss would anger him, yet not doing so would lead to his dismissal if the boss discovered the issue later.

As they say, better a short pain than a long one!

Tyler checked the time and finally mustered the courage to speak. "Boss, you have an important banquet tonight. It's hosted by Mr. Lawson, a big name in the music industry. He's paving the way for his daughter and heard you were in town. He's called several times to invite you."

Tyler thought Mr. Lawson seemed more like he wanted to introduce his daughter to the boss.

Aaron stayed silent. He pulled out his phone, intending to text Susanna but unsure of what to say, so he decided to call her directly.

Meanwhile, Susanna was peeling fruit for Dick when her phone suddenly rang.

The caller ID read—"Awful Man!"

Dick saw the note and a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. Who was calling Susanna?

Susanna blushed a little. "Excuse me, I'll take this call."

She quickly grabbed her phone and stepped out of the ward, surprised by Aaron's call. Was he back from his business trip already? She cleared her throat before answering, "Hey, what's up?"

Aaron's voice was cold. "Susanna, I didn't expect you to be so fickle. How come I never noticed before?"

"What do you mean?" Susanna was taken aback, not understanding why Aaron was saying this.

Aaron snapped, "What do I mean? Acting clueless now, huh? My folks saw you at the hospital with Dick. Didn't you say you didn't care for him? So why the sudden change of heart now that he's injured?"

Susanna didn't catch the jealousy in Aaron's tone but felt a surge of anger. Feeling unfairly accused, she retorted, "What's it to you? I may have said I didn't like Dick, but that doesn't mean I can't have backup options."

Aaron's blood pressure spiked with anger at her words.

Just then, the door of the hotel suite opened, and a beautiful woman walked in. "Mr. Abbott."

Aaron turned to the woman, his eyes narrowing.

Hearing the woman's voice on the phone, Susanna couldn't help but sneer, "Aren't you supposed to be on a business trip? And here you are, criticizing me? What a hypocrite!"

After hanging up, Susanna pondered the unfamiliar voice she had just heard. It didn't sound like Erica. Had Aaron moved on to another woman already?

’Men are all the same,’ Susanna thought to herself.

Aaron, now in a foul mood after being scolded and hung up on, glared at the woman at the door. "I didn't call for any special services."

The woman's expression turned awkward. "Mr. Abbott, my father sent me to find you and gave me this room card, asking me to mess around with you. But I can't do that, so I wanted to talk to you face-to-face."

Aaron's face remained expressionless. "You have no grounds to talk to me."

He glanced at the call log, feeling extremely agitated.

Back at the hospital, Susanna returned to the ward, still fuming.

Dick wrote on his notebook: [Who called you?]

Susanna hesitated before answering, "My ex-husband."

Dick froze at the words "ex-husband," recalling what the thugs had said that day, and broke out in a cold sweat. But he quickly reassured himself it was just an illusion and probably had nothing to do with Susanna's ex-husband.

Dick didn't dare to ask further and decided to keep quiet.

Seeing that Dick didn't continue to ask, Susanna sighed in relief. She wouldn't know how to explain otherwise.

Not long after, Harper walked in with a lunchbox. "Dick, you must be hungry. I made your favorite dishes and chicken soup."

Susanna smelled the chicken soup and suddenly felt hungry too.

Several dishes and chicken soup were soon laid out on the table, looking quite sumptuous.

Dick wrote on his notebook: [Mom, join us too.]

"Susanna, you should sit down and eat as well. You've been taking care of Dick all afternoon," said Harper.

Susanna was really a bit hungry. After all, she was pregnant now, and hunger could make her lose her mind.

As Susanna sat down at the small dining table, ready to start eating, Harper began to speak, "Susanna, we should eat slowly. After all, my son is injured and eats slowly. These are all his favorite dishes."

Susanna paused, understanding Harper's implication that she shouldn't take Dick's food. She slowed down her eating and looked at Dick. "Aunt Harper is right. You're the patient; you should eat more."

Dick nodded, drinking the chicken soup and eating slowly.

Hungry and impatient, Susanna's vision blurred as she reached for a bowl of soup. Unexpectedly, Harper firmly pressed down on her hand. "Susanna, this chicken soup is specially prepared for the patient. We, the healthy ones, shouldn't be taking it away from him."

Susanna's face paled slightly as she fought through the dizziness caused by low blood sugar. Determined, she reached for the grilled chicken wings, only to have her fork intercepted.

"Susanna, the vegetables today are exceptionally fresh. I purchased them directly from a local farmer, guaranteeing no pesticides. You should indulge in more of them. It's essential for girls to consume plenty of vegetables to maintain their fitness," Harper insisted.

At this point, Susanna couldn't even force a smile.

She ate two bowls of rice and finished a plate of vegetables, barely feeling half-full, but at least her low blood sugar was under control.

After Harper finished serving Dick, she noticed the vegetables were gone and her face turned a bit sour. "Susanna, you have quite an appetite. Usually, girls don't eat that much. You even finished the rice."

Susanna couldn't hold back any longer. She stood up and said, "Aunt Harper, if you're still hungry, I'll order takeout for you."

Harper said, "That would be too much trouble. But if you do, remember to order from a chain restaurant. I'd like a grilled steak."
