Chapter 506 Fate Brings Enemies Together
When Susanna spotted Maud, she was kinda taken aback.
Last time she saw Maud was at Amelia's bash, and they hadn't chatted since. She didn't really care about what happened with Calum either, 'cause, honestly, it wasn't her problem.
But she didn't see Maud coming at her so hard.
When Amelia saw Maud, she got all awkward. She knew Maud was Susanna's ex-mother-in-law and that Maud was in Philly for some charity gig she was throwing.
She only invited Maud 'cause Owen dropped a hint.
Owen wanted to cozy up to the Abbott family. Back then, she had no clue about Owen and Vivian's thing, or that Owen was using Ramond to get in good with the Abbotts.
If she had known, she wouldn't have played along so easily, and she definitely wouldn't have let the Abbotts mess with Susanna.
Susanna looked at Maud coming her way and said, "I don't think we got anything left to talk about. We already sorted our stuff out, right?"
Now that Maud was still hanging around Philly and talking all accusatory, Susanna had a pretty good idea what Maud wanted.
Maud took a deep breath, glanced at Amelia, and her tone got way softer. "Can we talk alone for a sec?"
Amelia nodded and looked at Susanna. "Susanna, I'll go grab us a private room."
Susanna looked at Maud and said, "What do you wanna talk about? I'm kinda busy."
And honestly, she didn't wanna talk to Maud at all.
Maud's face changed.
Finally, Maud begged, "Susanna, can you do me a solid? Calum's locked up and can't get out. Your Jones family is loaded in Philly, right? Can you pull some strings to get him out?"
Susanna wasn't shocked by this ask.
She had already figured Maud would come begging for this.
But she couldn't tell if Maud was playing dumb or really clueless to even ask her for this favor.
Susanna coldly replied, "No way. Calum teamed up with Kayle and Roman to spread crap about our Jones family. Why would I help an enemy?"
"Susanna, Calum got tricked. He didn't know how shady Kayle and Roman were in Philly."
"Do you even believe that? Or do you think I'm dumb enough to fall for that?"
Susanna took a few steps forward, then turned back to Maud. "Don't forget, I gave you three days. If you're still here after that, the cops will take you back. When you get back to Lindwell, think about whether you can still hold your head high."
"Susanna, why are you being so harsh? Do you really wanna ruin me?"
"Yep. Looks like you finally get it. I'm not a nice person. I gave you a chance, and if you blow it, don't blame me."
With that, Susanna was ready to bounce, not wanting to waste more time.
"Susanna, do you have to push me this far? If you're mad, take it out on me, not my family." Maud pleaded desperately.
"What's going on here? Didn't expect I'd get dinner and a show," came a familiar voice from the doorway.
Vivian strutted in, decked out in designer threads and toting a fancy bag. When she spotted Maud and Susanna, a smug grin spread across her face.
Finally, she could show them she wasn't the broke girl they used to know.
Susanna saw Vivian and thought, 'Man, what a small world.' She'd just picked a random spot to grab a bite and ended up running into Maud and Vivian, which totally killed her appetite.
Maud's face twisted when she saw Vivian. She spat out, "How dare you show your face here? Shouldn't you be rotting in jail?"
Vivian shot back, "Shouldn't you be stuck in Lindwell? If you can be here, why can't I?"
Did Maud really think she was still the same powerless girl?
Maud sneered, "Vivian, don't think I don't know you've latched onto some old dude. No matter what you do, you can't hide your trashy roots. Don't think I didn't know you tried to use Ramond to marry Aaron. I only put up with you in the Abbott family 'cause I thought Ramond was Aaron's kid. But now that Ramond's got nothing to do with Aaron, how can you still be so shameless? Where do you get the nerve?"
Since Maud saw Vivian in Philly, she'd been trying to figure out who was backing her.
Maud felt super bitter. Why could Vivian live it up in Philly while she had to lay low and then bounce?
Maud had always hated Vivian for tricking her with Ramond, almost causing her to harm her own granddaughter.
Vivian touched her limited-edition bag and said coolly, "Who said Ramond's got nothing to do with the Abbott family?"
"Keep dreaming. Aaron himself said Ramond ain't his kid. So what does Ramond have to do with the Abbotts?"
Seeing Vivian's confident smirk, Maud scoffed, "You tried to dump Ramond on the Abbott family, but after getting busted, you found the kid's real dad to help you, which is why you're in Philly. Am I right?"
Vivian laughed loudly, "Seems like Aaron hasn't told you the truth. You're really pathetic, being kept in the dark by everyone. Right, Susanna? You know what Ramond's deal is with the Abbott family."
Susanna stayed quiet for a moment. Maud turned to her and asked, "What's Ramond's relationship with the Abbott family?"
Susanna looked over and said, "You should ask Aaron about this, not me."
Maud glanced back at Vivian, her posture all high and mighty. "What's Ramond's relationship with the Abbott family?"
Vivian adjusted her clothes. "I wanted to tell you a long time ago, but now I suddenly don't feel like it. Seeing you so pathetically clueless makes me pretty happy."
Maud suddenly lost it and tried to slap Vivian, but Vivian shoved her to the ground.
Vivian looked down at Maud with a smirk. "Do you think you can still hit me? Do you think I'm still the Vivian you could push around? You better get with the program. This is Philly, not Lindwell."
