Chapter 566 Vivian's Scheme Failed
Amelia's words hit Owen and Vivian like a ton of bricks, leaving them both in shock, wondering if they had heard her right. They probably didn't see Amelia's sudden change in attitude coming, and it totally threw them off.
Amelia clapped her hands and turned to the butler next to her, saying, "Bring out the gift I prepared."
Vivian watched the butler leave, a hint of suspicion in her eyes. She looked at Amelia and asked, "What are you up to?" She couldn't believe Amelia would be so nice as to prepare a gift for Ramond.
Amelia replied, "Vivian, relax. It's Ramond's birthday, so of course, I got him a big gift. We're all going to be family soon. As his sister, I should set a good example, right?"
Vivian sneered inside at Amelia's grand words, "You've got it wrong. Ramond is my son, Dad's grandson, not your brother."
"Oh, really? I thought Dad always wanted a son of his own, which is why he treats your kid like one."
Vivian's face twisted. "What nonsense are you spouting?" Ramond was her son, Owen's biological grandson. Vivian didn't buy Amelia's words at all. What was she scheming? What was in that gift? Right then, Vivian was super nervous. Did Amelia dig up some dirt on her from the past?
Soon, the butler came back with several waiters, pushing a big box that grabbed everyone's attention.
Vivian eyed the box, her unease growing. Amelia hated her and Ramond. How could she acknowledge Ramond and get him a gift? Something was definitely off with that box.
Susanna saw the box being pushed out, her expression deepening. The show was about to start. But then, Vivian turned to Susanna and said, "Ms. Jones, is this some special service from your hotel?"
Susanna put down her champagne glass and nodded. "Sort of. Ms. Nguyen, why do you ask?"
"Amelia didn't say she was coming to today's party. I planned this party myself and had no clue about this special gift. So, I can only assume it's a special surprise from your hotel."
Susanna nodded. "If you want to think of it that way, then yes, it's a special custom gift from our hotel in collaboration with Ms. Richardson."
Vivian immediately smiled. "I see. If it's a special surprise from the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel, then it should be worth looking forward to. All the guests here came for the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel. Ms. Jones, you wouldn't want to disappoint us, right?"
Susanna got the hint in Vivian's words. If there was any issue with the gift, it would mean there was a problem with the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel. Vivian was good at shifting blame.
Amelia smiled and stepped up to the gift box. "Let's open it and see."
"Hold on a second." Owen grabbed Amelia's hand, looking deeply at his daughter. He also suspected that the box held not a surprise, but a shock. Today's party was all about Ramond, a welcome party for the heir. Nothing could go wrong.
Amelia looked up at Owen. "Dad, what's up? Don't you want to see the gift I got for Ramond?"
Ramond's eyes lit up when he saw the big box. He ran over and pushed it open. "I want this gift!" The box opened automatically, revealing a huge, beautifully crafted cake.
The cake looked like a piece of art, and all the guests were amazed. Some even took out their phones to snap pictures. Owen, seeing the cake, let out a sigh of relief and looked at Amelia with a complicated expression. "I didn't expect you to prepare such a big surprise."
Owen knew Paige was divorcing him, and he figured Amelia wouldn't accept Ramond. He was ready for the divorce, but he didn't expect her to send a cake today. Could it mean they were reconciling?
Vivian, on the other hand, didn't feel relieved. Her unease only grew stronger. She had been worried the box contained something harmful to her, but it was just a cake. Why would Amelia be so kind as to send a cake?
Amelia lit the candles with Ramond and said to him, "You're going to be part of the Richardson family now. Everything in the family will be yours. From today on, things will be different. Make a wish."
Owen smiled and stood beside Amelia, finally relaxing. He lowered his voice and said to Amelia, "If you've really thought this through, that's great."
Amelia cut a piece of cake and handed it to Owen. "Dad, I was reckless and immature before. Now I get it. Ramond is family too. There's no need for me to react so strongly. Grandpa and Grandma have also been persuaded by me. They won't oppose this."
Owen looked surprised. "Really? Your grandparents don't oppose it? What about your mom?"
"My mom hasn't openly agreed yet, but she hasn't opposed it either. Her attitude isn't as sharp as before. Dad, trust me to persuade her. You've been with her for so many years. How can you fall out over such a small matter? I also hope there will be a child in the family, so it will be lively."
Hearing this, Owen finally sighed in relief and patted Amelia's shoulder. "Amelia, I'm so glad you think this way. All my years of love and education for you haven't been in vain."
"Dad, don't worry. I've thought it through now. I won't be like before. Ramond will be part of our family. I'll treat him as family. I'll persuade Grandpa and Grandma to provide him with all the resources and support he needs. We'll support each other as a family and go further together, instead of scheming against each other. This is what you taught me before. I didn't understand it then, but I do now."
Owen was immediately shocked. "Good, Amelia. You didn't disappoint me."
Amelia look at Vivian. "Right, Vivian? We'll be family from now on."
Vivian's face instantly turned pale. She looked at Amelia in disbelief, not expecting her to be so flexible, accepting Ramond's existence and even persuading her grandparents to accept him. This was not good news for her.
