Chapter 188 Save the Mother or Save the Child

Aaron's mind went blank for a moment after hearing the news.

"Susanna's pregnant? Whose kid is it?"

Kieran's voice came through the phone. "Mr. Abbott, if it comes down to saving the mother or the child, what would you choose?"

Aaron took a deep breath. Save the mother or the child?

All he knew was that he'd been cheated on and was now laughing at himself. Susanna being pregnant—what a joke.

Aaron's lips curled into a cold smile. "Do you even need to ask?"

Kieran hesitated, "Save the child?"

'In wealthy families, isn't the child usually the priority?' Kieran thought.

Aaron's face turned pale. "Save Susanna. The child doesn't matter."

Why should he care about a child that had nothing to do with him? He was already struggling not to ask the hospital to stop Susanna's treatment. If he had to worry about the child too, he didn't know how he'd handle it.

Meanwhile, Tyler had picked up on the big news—Mrs. Abbott was pregnant.

"Boss should be happy, but with that grim look, could the child not be his?" Tyler wondered. He didn't think Mrs. Abbott was that kind of person, but he kept his thoughts to himself.

After hanging up, Aaron was visibly agitated. The helicopter flew over a shopping mall in the city. The mall was having a light show, and a green beam shot up into the sky, enveloping the helicopter.

Tyler saw a green light on the boss's hair, swallowed hard, and didn't dare say a word. He was really worried that knowing this secret might get him killed. Being an assistant these days was really tough.

Twenty minutes later, the helicopter landed on the hospital rooftop. Aaron stepped out with a stern expression, and Kieran was quick to greet him. Given Aaron's status as a major benefactor of the hospital, it was important to show him proper respect.

Though Aaron's face was cold, his eyes still showed worry. "How is Susanna?" he asked.

"Congratulations, Mr. Abbott, both the mother and the child are safe," Kieran replied.

Aaron paused; he had hoped the child would be gone. He remained silent on the way and hurried straight to the private room, where he found Susanna lying in bed, looking somewhat frail.

Aaron's anger flared up, but seeing her like this, he could only temporarily hold it back. He turned to Kieran. "How did she get hurt? I heard on the phone that someone pushed her."

Otherwise, Susanna wouldn't have screamed suddenly while on the phone and then had an accident. At that time, there was also a middle-aged woman cursing on the phone. These two things were definitely related.

Kieran replied, "We checked the surveillance footage right away, and it clearly shows someone pushing Mrs. Abbott, leading to her fall. At that time, we were focused on Mrs. Abbott, and by the time we realized it, the mother and son had already departed."

Aaron saw the surveillance video and found it familiar; it was Dick and Harper.

Aaron tugged at his tie, perplexed as to why Susanna would come to the hospital to look after that conniving Dick, only to end up being pushed down. He couldn't help but start to suspect that the child might be Dick's.

Kieran continued, "Mr. Abbott, don't worry, we will definitely pursue this matter to the end. They still owe us medical bills."

"Keep your voice down. Why are you talking so loudly? I'm not deaf," Aaron scolded Kieran in a lower voice, but it seemed too late; Susanna, lying in bed, had already woken up.

She felt pain all over her body. She opened her eyes and quickly touched her abdomen, worried that something might have happened to her child. She didn't know if the child was still there and anxiously looked up, only to see Aaron.

At that moment, Susanna froze. "Why are you here? Weren't you on a business trip? Am I dreaming?"

Aaron sneered, "What? Are you feeling guilty seeing me?"

Susanna pressed her lips together and said nothing.

At this point, Tyler noticed something was wrong and quickly signaled to Kieran and the others to leave the room. Some things were better left unheard.

Soon, only the two of them were left in the room. Susanna weakly leaned against the headboard. She noticed her knees were bandaged, and her arms had been disinfected with iodine. But she didn't know if the child was okay, and with Aaron here, she didn't dare ask.

"Susanna, are you mute? Now that you've been harmed by that scheming guy, are you happy?" Aaron scolded.

Susanna felt a pain in her chest. "It was an accident. Who would have thought that crazy woman would dare to act?"

"What? Weren't you eagerly coming to the hospital to take care of that scheming guy? Didn't you serve well and get criticized by your future mother-in-law?" Aaron snapped.

Susanna looked incredulous. "Who told you I eagerly came to take care of Dick? I just came to check on him the first day."

"Then why are you here today? To stroll around the hospital?" Aaron kept pushing.

Susanna gritted her teeth in anger. "You're the one who needs to be hospitalized. If I didn't come, Dick would have called the police!"

Aaron asked, "What did you say?"

"Dick was beaten and hospitalized, his leg was broken. I came to the hospital to deal with this, otherwise, why would I bother with him?" Susanna replied.

After Susanna finished speaking, she noticed Aaron's expression was strange. She felt a bit uneasy. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Aaron was surprised that she came because of this. He was a bit taken aback. "Even if he called the police, they wouldn't catch the culprit."

The professionals he hired only fractured Dick's leg, a wound that would mend in time. A coward like Dick wouldn't uncover their identities.

Susanna snorted, "Are you sure? With today's advanced technology, how could there be no traces left? If they really get caught, the charge of intentional injury is not a light one."

Aaron's thin lips curved slightly. "Indeed, it's not a light charge."

"So why are you talking so much?" Susanna said, a bit annoyed.

The next second, Aaron, in a good mood, replied, "You don't have to wrong yourself. Dick definitely has no evidence to point out who did it."

"You're so confident. Anyone who didn't know the situation would think you did it," Susanna remarked.
