Chapter 391 Susanna, How Much Longer Do You Plan to Keep This a Secret?
Susanna's heart did a little flip, and she blurted out, "She didn't come. Sometimes, Lillian just ain't cut out for our kinda talk."
Aaron's brow furrowed as he turned to Maud. "Mom, didn't you get outta here this morning? What brings you back?"
"Aaron, I came to check on you. Look at you, all messed up just 'cause you donated bone marrow. And you even booted Vivian from the Abbott clan for this, and she didn't do squat."
"Mom, I've made up my mind about Vivian. Either Ramond stays, or she takes him and goes."
"That's a no-go. Ramond's gotta stay; he's family."
When Maud brought up Ramond, she shot a look at Susanna and then said, "Your turn."
The hint was clear—Susanna needed to talk about breaking up with Aaron.
Susanna bit her lip, figuring a few minutes had passed, and the secretary should've already left with Lillian.
Seeing her hesitate, Maud jumped in, "You ain't chickening out, are you?"
Aaron caught that and frowned. "Mom, what are you up to now?"
"Aaron, I'm not scheming. I just want her to admit she agreed to my terms this morning."
Aaron's eyes were full of confusion as he looked at her.
Susanna knew she couldn't dodge it anymore, so she faced Aaron and said, "Mr. Abbott, I appreciate you donating bone marrow to Lillian, but you can't force feelings. I don't think we're right for each other, so..."
"So what?"
Aaron cut her off, his voice icy.
Susanna hesitated, glanced at Maud, and continued, "So we should break up!"
As soon as she said it, the room felt like it dropped ten degrees.
She looked at Aaron lying in the hospital bed, his face hard and his eyes piercing.
Aaron's voice was cold. "You wanted to be together, and now you wanna break up."
Maud quickly chimed in, "Aaron, don't be mad. Ms. Ramirez told me the truth this morning. She was only with you for the bone marrow. I think it's best you two split."
Aaron rubbed his temples. "Mom, please leave. I need to talk to her."
Susanna glanced at Maud, trying to play her part.
Maud stood up and said, "Aaron, I'm calling the shots here. You two should just break up; you were never a good match anyway. Ms. Ramirez, you've said your piece, now get out. There's nothing left for you here."
"Okay."
Susanna turned and left in a hurry, eager to get out of there.
She quickly pulled out her phone and saw a message from her secretary: [We're outta here.]
Seeing that, she finally exhaled. Thank goodness they got out.
Susanna went back to her own hospital room, thinking it was best to wait a bit longer, at least until the helicopter was clear of Lindwell's airspace.
If Maud hadn't shown up outta nowhere, she would've already left with Lillian.
Susanna sat on the sofa, looking at the toys Lillian had left behind, a bad feeling creeping in as her eyelids kept twitching.
Two hours later, Susanna's phone buzzed. It was her secretary. "Ms. Jones, we're outta Lindwell's airspace. The private chopper's ready. You can bounce anytime."
"Got it, I'm heading out now."
She hung up, didn't bother packing, and made a beeline for the rooftop to catch the helicopter.
But remembering her run-in with Maud in the elevator, she decided to play it safe and took the stairs this time.
Panting, Susanna pushed open the rooftop door.
Seeing Aaron standing there, her smile vanished. "What are you doing here?"
Aaron turned to her. "You really don't know why I'm here?"
Susanna, catching her breath, leaned against the door, realizing she was busted.
But luckily, the bone marrow was already outta Lindwell with Lillian, so even if Aaron found out, it was too late.
Aaron walked towards her, step by step. "I trusted you, and this is how you repay me? Using me and then bailing?"
He really didn't wanna see Susanna here, but he was let down.
Susanna looked up at Aaron, her tone calm. "If you really trusted me, you wouldn't be here. Aren't you afraid of looking like a fool?"
Aaron's face was stone cold. "You think I didn't trust you? Since my bone marrow matched, did I ever doubt you?"
Susanna's eyes showed a flicker of sadness. "You didn't ask, but your actions screamed you didn't trust me. If you truly trusted me, you'd be resting in your hospital room, not chasing me down."
Aaron couldn't hold back his anger. "Susanna, it's been four years, and your lying game is still strong!"
Aaron thought she was just spewing nonsense.
Susanna's expression turned icy. "I told you, I'm not Susanna!"
"At this point, you think I believe that?"
"Believe it or not, I don't care!"
Aaron grabbed her wrist. "You say you're not Susanna? Fine, I'll bring Madison here to confront you! Tyler, go get her!"
"Don't you dare!"
Susanna shot a glare at Tyler, then looked at Aaron. "Don't drag her into this."
"What, dropping the act now?"
Aaron looked down at her, gripping her chin. "Susanna, you've been hiding well for four years!"
Susanna slapped him hard, making his face snap to the side.
The air around them went dead silent.
Susanna stared at Aaron, her eyes cold. "Aaron, you better get it through your head that I'm not the same Susanna you used to push around!"
Hearing her admit her identity, Aaron's tongue pressed against his cheek, a smirk on his lips. "Your temper's grown too."
Susanna couldn't stand his smug look and tried to slap him again, but this time Aaron caught her wrist. He said in a low voice, "Enough, don't push it."
She gritted her teeth. "Let go!"
"I finally caught you, no way I'm letting go. I got a lotta questions."
Aaron looked behind Susanna and saw no one. He frowned. "Where's Lillian?"
Susanna stayed silent, just trying to free her hand.
Aaron suddenly pieced it together. "Susanna, you wouldn't leave Lillian behind! Where is she?"
