Chapter 256 Jealousy Distorted One's Features

Susanna looked up and locked eyes with Aaron, realizing he had always misunderstood her relationship with Austin, thinking her child was his.

She hadn't corrected him to make the divorce easier. But now that Aaron knew Austin was her brother, he'd figure out she lied and start questioning who the child's father really was.

Susanna's mind raced. She couldn't reveal her pregnancy, especially since it was Aaron's.

Just days ago, she lied to Maria, saying she wasn't pregnant to finalize the divorce. If Maria found out now, it would break her heart.

Susanna scrambled for an excuse.

"Susanna! Go to hell!" Erica suddenly appeared, hair wild, charging at her with a knife.

Before Susanna could react, Erica was right in front of her, aiming the knife at her chest.

Instinctively, Susanna shielded her belly, unable to dodge. She watched in horror as the knife came closer. In a split second, someone blocked the attack.

Susanna's mind went blank. She reached out, touching warm, sticky liquid. "Aaron!" she cried.

Erica stepped back, shocked. "You ran into it yourself, it's not my fault!"

Edward yelled, "Restrain Erica before she goes crazy again!"

"Let go of me! I'm the heir to the Jones family. Touch me and you'll regret it!" Erica swung the knife wildly, making the bodyguards hesitate.

Susanna ignored Erica, focusing on Aaron. "Are you okay? Where are you hurt?"

Maud rushed over, worried. "Are you hurt? What happened?"

Aaron clenched his jaw. "I'm fine, just a cut on my arm." Blood trickled down, pooling on the floor.

"Aaron, you're bleeding a lot. You need to go to the hospital," Maud insisted.

Susanna agreed. "Maud's right, you should go."

Aaron hesitated. "What about you? Are you hurt?"

"Aaron, why are you worried about her?" Maud felt everyone's eyes on her and quickly added, "I mean, you protected Susanna, she can't be hurt."

The eyes turned away.

Maud sighed in relief. The Jones family was scary. Had she said something wrong?

Austin stepped between Susanna and Aaron, seeing the deep gash. Despite not wanting to owe Aaron, he had saved Susanna's life.

Austin tied something around Aaron's arm. "Go to the hospital for stitches and disinfection immediately."

"No need, I'll just go to the campus clinic," Aaron said coolly. "I have an event later."

He didn't want to miss Susanna's performance today. Leaving now felt like he might never see her again. Learning Susanna was the true heir to the Jones family had thrown him off, making her seem even more out of reach.

Susanna noticed a hint of reluctance in his eyes. Was she imagining it? Why would Aaron be hesitant about her?

She lowered her eyes. "I think the hospital is better."

"Yes, Aaron, Susanna's really worried about you. You should go to the hospital. If something happens to you, what will I do?" Maud added, concerned.

Edward nodded. "Mr. Abbott, you should go to the hospital. Thanks for saving Susanna."

Brian, sensing the tension, quickly added, "Thanks for saving Susanna, but given how the Abbott family treated her before, let's call it even. We won't hold it against you anymore."

Daniel chimed in, "That's right. We were planning to bring Susanna back, but we weren't going to let the Abbott family off the hook. Susanna suffered for three years with you!"

The Jones family glared at Aaron, making Maud go silent. She had bullied Susanna before, and if the Jones family wanted to settle scores, it would be trouble.

The atmosphere grew tense.

"What about me? What am I? I've been with the Jones family for years, and how have you treated me?" Erica, pinned to the ground, looked at Susanna darkly. "You haven't done anything, but why do you get all their love? Why?"

Susanna found Erica's words odd.

Edward spoke up, "Susanna, I regret bringing Erica back from the orphanage. Grandma's health declined after losing you, and she needed comfort. I made a hasty decision, not realizing the pain it would cause you."

Aviana added, "Susanna, do you remember the orphanage? You and Erica were there together. You must have known each other."

Susanna looked at Erica, surprised and confused. Did they know each other from the orphanage?

Before Susanna could respond, Erica's tone turned sharp. "Have you forgotten, Susanna? We were inseparable as kids. Now that you're the Jones family heir, are you just going to cast me aside?"

Susanna stepped back, frowning. "I don't remember anything from childhood. If we were best friends, why didn't the Jones family take me when they took you?"

Erica's eyes flickered with guilt. "Because you had already been adopted!"

Edward's face turned pale with anger. "If that's the case, why didn't you say so? We've spent years looking for Susanna!"

Erica sneered, "How was I supposed to know she was the one you were looking for!"

Aviana stepped forward and slapped Erica. "You're lying! You've been deceiving us all these years, trying to replace Susanna!"
