Chapter 417 Mr. Abbott's First Day as a Bodyguard
"Edward, I get it. When Charles gets out, I'll be right there with him, making sure he stays on the straight and narrow. No way I'm letting him turn into a bad apple."
Charles was a brainiac, way smarter than other kids his age. But a test showed he had antisocial personality disorder. He was a total loner, never liked hanging out with people.
Susanna had been stressing about this for ages.
Since Charles had been sick, he was cooped up in Michael's lab most of the time, so Susanna hadn't really stepped in to shape his character.
But if Charles got better and had to mix with regular folks, they had to do something about it.
Aviana squeezed her hand and said, "Don't worry. We'll all pitch in to guide Charles. No way he's turning into a criminal. Our family has everything he needs."
Susanna grinned and said, "Yeah, I'm not letting Charles go down that path either."
Plus, Michael had been keeping an eye on Charles's behavior for years. So far, no red flags, just a bit of a loner vibe.
After leaving the private hospital, Susanna felt way better.
Charles's treatment was going smoothly, and he'd be back on his feet soon.
Marcus came up to her and said, "Ms. Jones, there's a movie event tonight. You going?"
"Absolutely, why not?"
Marcus hesitated, "Mr. Abbott's making a scene about getting discharged today."
"Fine, if he wants out, let him. There's a party tonight; he can tag along."
Susanna headed straight to the mall for some retail therapy.
She was trying on some outfits when she spotted Aaron nearby, looking sharp in a black suit and shades.
With a smirk, Susanna walked over and said, "How's your arm?"
Aaron, all serious, replied, "Just a scratch. Your brother's way worse off than me."
Susanna couldn't help but chuckle at Aaron's stubbornness.
"Since you're here, you can be my pack mule."
She bought a ton of clothes and dumped all the bags on Aaron. If he wanted out of the hospital so bad, he could start earning his keep.
Aaron glanced at the bags, frowned a bit, but went along with it.
To mess with him, Susanna kept buying more stuff, making Aaron carry all the boxes.
Seeing Aaron's awkward but silent struggle, her mood lifted.
But they hadn't gone far when a woman's shrill voice cut through the air. "Are you blind? Can't you see I'm standing here?"
Susanna turned to see a woman with a designer bag, pointing and yelling at Aaron.
She walked over and said, "Claudia, heard your plastic surgery bombed. Thought you'd be hiding forever."
Claudia looked a bit rattled seeing Susanna. "Who said I had plastic surgery? I never did that."
Susanna brushed off Claudia and turned to Aaron. "You dropped all my stuff. Pick them up."
Claudia suddenly yelled, "So this blind guy is your bodyguard?"
"Yep, this blind bodyguard is my new hire."
"But he just bumped into me and scratched my new bag. He should pay for it."
Susanna glanced down and saw the scratch on Claudia's bag.
She looked at Aaron and asked, "Did you do this?"
Aaron frowned. "She was on her phone, not watching where she was going, and bumped into me."
Claudia got all huffy and pointed at Aaron. "You broke bodyguard, what crap are you spewing? You were the one lugging all that stuff and bumped into me. How dare you blame me?"
Aaron's face turned icy. No woman had ever dared to point at him and yell like that.
Susanna watched the drama unfold.
She pretended to be in a tough spot and said, "This is a bit tricky."
"Since he's your bodyguard, you should pay me!"
Susanna sighed. "Paying you isn't the issue, but Claudia, were you scammed? Your bag's a fake. A real one wouldn't scratch so easily."
"What nonsense! My bag is real. How could it be fake?"
"Claudia, you might not trust me on other things, but you know I can spot a fake luxury item."
Claudia looked at her bag, then angrily pulled out her phone. "Bastard, how dare you sell me a fake! You're gonna pay for this."
Susanna turned to Aaron. "Let's go, blind bodyguard."
Aaron stayed silent.
But Claudia came back, looking all self-righteous. "Don't get too cocky. My brother Roman just landed a deal with the Abbott Group. We'll surpass the Jones family soon."
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "The Abbott Group? Which Abbott Group?"
"The Abbott family from Lindwell. Haven't you heard? Roman's expanding into Lindwell, and they won't be any worse than the Jones family. You'll regret not getting engaged to Roman."
Susanna glanced at Aaron, curious about his plans with the Thornberry family.
Hearing that Susanna almost got engaged to the Thornberry family, Aaron furrowed his brow.
After her rant, Claudia looked at Aaron. "Poor bodyguard, watch yourself next time. You can't afford my bag even if you sold yourself."
Susanna didn't know what to say.
If Claudia knew she was yelling at Aaron from the Abbott Group, she'd flip.
After Claudia left, Susanna looked at Aaron with a smirk. "Is the collaboration still on?"
Aaron's face darkened. "You can shut up now."
Susanna was thrilled. Seeing Aaron get chewed out was oddly satisfying.
Aaron, still in his black sunglasses, paused and asked, "Did that woman just say you almost got engaged to her brother?"
