Chapter 530 The Pungent Perfume Scent
Susanna felt a bit thrown off when she heard the voice, but the overpowering scent of perfume hit her like a ton of bricks.
It was like someone had dumped an entire bottle on themselves.
She didn't recognize the voice, but the way the perfume was slathered on gave her a pretty good idea.
Susanna turned her head, and sure enough, there was Elaine, decked out in designer brands, strutting into the party with Maud.
Elaine still wore that obnoxious perfume, like she was scared people wouldn't know what she was wearing.
She came from money, but it was a mystery how she ended up like this.
Susanna didn't want to get into it with Elaine. She glanced at the waiter next to her and said, "Go tell your manager right now. This needs to be fixed immediately; such a basic mistake is unacceptable."
The waiter nodded and took off. Elaine sneered, "Susanna, you talk like you own the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel."
Amelia couldn't hold back and snapped at Elaine, "And who are you to boss people around here? Susanna is a seasoned designer. It's normal for her to point out issues to the staff."
"Susanna, a seasoned designer? She's just a rich girl with too much time on her hands. What could she possibly know about landscape design? The Velvet Sky Ballroom was designed by a famous designer. What does she know? Someone who uses fake goods to fool people doesn't know anything about aesthetics."
Elaine was clearly still salty about the fake goods incident.
Especially Susanna, who used to kiss up to her when she was with the Abbott Family. Now, after joining the Jones Family, she had the nerve to deceive her with fake goods?
Elaine felt seriously unbalanced and was determined to teach Susanna a lesson this time.
Hearing Elaine's words, Susanna was both amused and annoyed. How did she end up at today's business reception?
Maud, standing nearby, said with a fake smile. "Elaine, Ms. Jones isn't the helpless orphan she used to be. You should watch your mouth in Philadelphia. If she complains to her family, you'll be in big trouble."
Elaine's face froze for a moment, then she stubbornly said, "Only kids go home to tattle."
Before Susanna could say anything, Amelia shot back, "You've been mooching off the Abbott Family for years, and you have the nerve to say that? If it were me, I'd dig a hole and bury myself rather than show my face."
Elaine was livid and pointed at Amelia, shouting, "Who are you? How dare you yell at me? Do you know who I am? You're dead for messing with me."
Susanna coughed and said, "This is Ms. Richardson, the President's daughter."
Elaine's face went through a series of rapid changes.
She swallowed her words, realizing that the girl talking was the President's daughter, someone she definitely couldn't afford to mess with.
Maud, who was fully aware of Amelia's identity, observed Elaine's discomfort with a smirk. She just couldn't tolerate Elaine leeching off the Abbott Family.
But her hands were tied since the Abbott Family hadn't split, and Aaron was still in charge.
Maud couldn't let Elaine make a complete fool of herself, as it would reflect badly on the Abbott Family.
She quickly stepped in, "Ms. Richardson, Elaine doesn't come to Philadelphia often, so she doesn't know many people here. If she said something wrong, please cut her some slack."
Amelia shot back, "If she can't talk properly, she should stay home. Not everyone is as forgiving as I am. She's an adult; she should be responsible for her words and actions, right?"
Elaine's face turned beet red, but she couldn't argue with Amelia in front of everyone. She had bigger fish to fry in Philadelphia.
Elaine then smugly asked, "Susanna, are you here for the business reception too? Planning to collaborate with the Velvet Sky Ballroom?"
Susanna replied with a faint smile, "That's none of your business."
"Susanna, someone as idle as you shouldn't even think about it. If you really collaborated with the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel, it would only lower their standards."
Susanna's lips curled slightly. "But it's not up to you who the Velvet Sky Ballroom Hotel collaborates with."
"True, it's not up to me, but the Abbott Family is about to collaborate with the Velvet Sky Ballroom. The Jones Family shouldn't even dream about it. No one in Lindwell can compete with us."
A cold glint flashed in Susanna's eyes, "Is that so? We'll see."
Maud cut in, "Enough, Elaine. Don't say too much. You might spill something and make things tough for Aaron."
Elaine quickly nodded, "Okay, I get it. But if you meet the owner of the Velvet Sky Ballroom, could you introduce me? I want to have my next birthday party there, but the one in Lindwell is booked for the next two to three years. Can you get me a spot?"
The Velvet Sky Ballroom in Lindwell was super popular, and hosting a party there was a big deal. Elaine wanted in on that action.
Maud replied coolly, "Alright, once Aaron collaborates with the Velvet Sky Ballroom, I'll talk to the owner and see if I can get you a spot."
Elaine was over the moon, "Really? Thank you, Maud. I knew you were the best."
Maud held Elaine's hand, saying, "Who else would I be good to? Besides my son, you're the only girl in our family."
Susanna felt a bit suspicious seeing Maud being so nice to Elaine, remembering that Maud didn't like Elaine and her family leeching off the Abbott Family.
Why was Maud suddenly playing nice?
Susanna calmly said, "As far as I know, the Velvet Sky Ballroom has a strict reservation policy and won't make exceptions for anyone."
