Chapter 77 The Wedding was Held as Scheduled
When Erica asked, Susanna calmly answered, "I came to understand Maria's condition. Is there a problem? After all, her surgery still hasn't been scheduled."
She didn't mention asking Austin to find a doctor for her. But she also wanted to know what was going on and whether Aaron had investigated why Erica's brother couldn't come for the surgery.
Erica's smile brightened even more. "Then you don't need to go. My brother has agreed to perform the surgery at the end of the month. Mrs. Maria will recover soon."
Hearing this, Susanna was taken aback. She instinctively looked at Aaron and asked, "Really?"
Aaron nodded. "She's right. The surgery is scheduled for the end of the month."
Susanna lowered her eyelids. "That's good. I hope Mrs. Maria's surgery goes smoothly."
Erica was happy at this moment. Although she thought she had no chance this time, she didn't expect another opportunity to arise. This way, Susanna poses no threat to her.
Erica smiled slightly and looked up at Aaron. "Let's go, Aaron. Let's go tell Maria the good news."
Upon hearing this, Susanna could no longer stay in the same place and turned around to go downstairs.
Erica watched her back and smiled. "Aaron, let's go."
Aaron withdrew his gaze and said coldly, "We can't tell Maria about this for now. Otherwise, she won't agree to the surgery."
Erica's expression became somewhat awkward. "It's unnecessary. Austin is the best doctor."
When Aaron had a car accident before, Erica hesitated and didn't come to care for Aaron. But this time, Erica pleaded with Edward and Austin to perform the surgery on Maria. In other words, she saved Maria's life.
Erica wondered, 'What's wrong with Mrs. Maria? Why isn't she grateful? When Susanna saved Aaron's life earlier, she treated Susanna so well. This time, I saved her life. Why can't she change her attitude toward me a little bit?'
Aaron warned. "Erica, you better not do anything unnecessary."
Erica instantly shrunk her neck and nervously said, "Aaron, don't worry. I won't do anything. But I convinced Edward and Austin. I lied and said you were willing to marry me, so Austin agreed. You heard what he said just now."
"Erica, we only pretended to be engaged. It was just a transaction, not real." Aaron emphasized.
"I know. But even if it's a fake engagement, I still need to pretend for my brothers. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to explain if they found out the truth. After all, there is still some time before the surgery at the end of the month. What if something unexpected happens? How will Mrs. Maria handle it?" Erica replied.
Erica looked at Aaron, filled with excitement in her heart. She thought to herself, 'As long as the engagement ceremony takes place, it will be real. I won't admit it's fake. My brothers will definitely fight for justice for me, and at that time, Aaron must marry me no matter what. But for now, I need to stay calm as long as the engagement goes smoothly.'
"The engagement will certainly be held as scheduled," Maud said cheerfully. She grabbed Erica's arm as they stepped out of the elevator. "The attending physician from the hospital just called me about your brother coming over. It is really great news. As for the engagement, there's no problem at all. We'll invite your brothers to attend the ceremony."
Erica lowered her head, smiling gently, but her eyes concealed a deep emptiness.
---
Susanna walked briskly down the stairs and went straight towards the hospital's exit.
"Susanna!" Austin was waiting downstairs. He saw Susanna rushing towards the exit, and her mood seemed off.
Upon hearing his voice, Susanna remembered Austin was still there.
She quickly adjusted her expression and turned to look at Austin. "Austin."
"Susanna, what's wrong? Did someone bully you? Did you cry?" Austin asked anxiously.
"Nothing. I just went to visit Maria earlier, and thinking about her condition made me feel a bit down." Susanna changed the subject. "Austin, I was looking for you just now. I didn't see you downstairs."
"Oh, after I finished gathering information, I came out. I also made a phone call to a friend just now. That's why it took me a while." Austin explained.
Austin's gaze showed a hint of guilt because he had just encountered Erica. Fortunately, Susanna didn't come downstairs at that time. Otherwise, he would have definitely exposed his identity!
The six brothers had bet that whoever exposed their identities before Susanna fully accepted them would have to run naked and do the cancan!
Susanna nodded, and a self-mocking expression on her face. "Austin, I apologize for bothering you this time, but there's something I have to tell you. I may not need your friend's help anymore. I'm really sorry."
Austin thought of his encounter with Erica earlier. He guessed Erica had said something, or Susanna happened to run into Erica and Aaron downstairs.
Austin sighed inwardly. "It's okay, as long as the elder's surgery goes smoothly."
"Exactly. That's my only wish. As for everything else, I don't care. I feel sorry for your friend. I don't need him to perform the surgery anymore. I'm worried he might get angry." Susanna asked.
"Don't worry. My friend won't get angry." Austin looked at Susanna and spoke. "Let's go home."
Austin thought that since Susanna's wish was for Maria to have a successful surgery, he would definitely reassure her.
After returning home, Susanna completely stopped thinking about Maria's surgery.
---
In just a few days, Susanna saw the entertainment headlines. It said, [Socialite Erica has dinner with Maud; their relationship is harmonious.]
Susanna saw pictures of Erica and Maud. They were holding hands and smiling. Maud finally found a rich girl to be her daughter-in-law.
Susanna rubbed her belly. She would be able to finalize her divorce from Aaron by the end of the month.
"Susanna, why do you always touch your belly?" Allison suddenly appeared and looked at her with scrutiny. "Are you pregnant?"
Susanna paused, and she coldly responded, "Is there something wrong with you?"
"Don't pretend. Honestly, you have gained a lot of weight compared to before. You look like you're pregnant. Tell me, whose child are you carrying?" Allison continued.
Susanna looked at Allison with a cold gaze. "Allison, instead of chatting, you should think about how to handle the complaints you have. If you can't resolve the complaints, it will affect the studio."
Allison immediately turned cold. She left in a huff, stomping her high heels, and then immediately called Elaine. "Miss Abbott, let me tell you a secret: Susanna is probably pregnant."
Elaine sneered, "Susanna wants to be pregnant, but she never had the chance. By the way, I have a task for you. Find a way to get Susanna into trouble, preferably related to your designs. If you do this well, I'll buy you the bag you liked last time."
Allison was overjoyed. "Miss Abbott, don't worry. I will definitely satisfy you."
After hanging up the phone, Allison still had some doubts deep down.
But Susanna indeed looked like she was pregnant. There were only a few girls in the office, and Susanna seemed to have not had her period!
