Chapter 531 Who Will End Up with Egg on Their Face?
How dare Maud agree to let Elaine cut the line and organize an event? Susanna would never agree to it.
Not for Elaine, and definitely not for Maud. Susanna wasn't about to bend the rules for anyone, no matter who they were.
Even if she wanted to, she wouldn't mess up the schedule for something like this. It just wasn't how she did business.
Her friends knew better than to ask for such favors. Plus, there were plenty of other places to throw a party besides Velvet Sky Ballroom.
Elaine scoffed, "Susanna, you talk big. Do you really think you're in charge here?"
Maud stayed cool. "In Lindwell, if Velvet Sky Ballroom wants to stay on top, they need to do us a favor. Ms. Jones, you're overthinking it."
"Exactly, Maud. Susanna's just jealous. She knows she can't compete with our Abbott Family, so she's trying to stir things up."
Amelia shot back, "Velvet Sky Ballroom never lets anyone cut the line. If you don't know the rules, don't embarrass yourself."
"Rules are just for show. There's always a way around them. Just because your Jones Family can't swing it doesn't mean our Abbott Family can't," Elaine said, smug as ever.
Susanna crossed her arms, eyeing Elaine and Maud. "So, you think your Abbott Family's got it all figured out? The investment banquet isn't even over, and you already think you're in with Velvet Sky Ballroom?"
Maud was confident. "In Lindwell, working with us is the smart move, unless they don't want to grow here."
Elaine nodded. "Exactly. This is Lindwell, not Philadelphia. If the hotel's owner has any sense, they'll know who to team up with."
Susanna raised an eyebrow. "Well, let me burst your bubble. Velvet Sky Ballroom hasn't picked anyone yet, and your Abbott Family isn't the top choice."
Elaine kept up her arrogance. "Susanna, stop with the nonsense. Velvet Sky Ballroom will work with us. You don't stand a chance. I know you're jealous, but it won't help you."
"Let me make it clear, Velvet Sky Ballroom will not work with you," Susanna said firmly.
Maud sneered, "Who do you think you are? Can you decide who Velvet Sky Ballroom partners with?"
Elaine added, "Yeah, I heard the owner is young and promising, usually low-key. Unlike your flashy Jones Family, they're truly classy."
Susanna found Elaine's self-praise laughable.
She looked up and said seriously, "While I appreciate your kind words about the owner, I have to tell you, the reservation order at Velvet Sky Ballroom won't change for anyone. It doesn't matter who they partner with."
"Susanna, we've already talked to the manager at Velvet Sky Ballroom, and they're super keen to work with us. Don't be a sore loser," Elaine said, smirking.
Elaine then turned to Maud, "Didn't you say the owner of Velvet Sky Ballroom would show up today? Let's see Susanna eat her words."
Maud grinned, "When the banquet kicks off, the owner will be here. Just wait."
She then looked at Susanna. "Do you really think being the Jones Family heir means you run Philadelphia?"
Susanna gave a half-smile, "Need me to remind you how you sucked up to that fake who pretended to be me in your Abbott Family?"
Elaine and Maud went silent.
Maud fiddled with her clothes, saying nothing, while Elaine forced herself to speak, "Susanna, stop making stuff up. We never sucked up to that fake. It was that impostor who shamelessly came to our Abbott Family, trying to marry Aaron."
The whole thing was embarrassing, but they couldn't admit it in front of Susanna.
"Really? Seems like you have selective memory. Should I remind you of all the sweet talk and flattery you showered on Erica?"
"Cut the crap, Susanna," Elaine snapped, feeling guilty because she did try to butter up that fake Erica back then.
She thought that Erica was from the wealthy Jones Family in Philadelphia, and if she had truly established a good relationship, she could have continued to live comfortably in the Abbott Family.
But who would have guessed that Erica was a fraud? What she never imagined was that Susanna, whom she thought was an orphan, was actually a true member of the Jones Family.
This twist was beyond Elaine's wildest dreams. She even fantasized for a while that she might be the real daughter of a wealthy family, instead of scraping by, begging the Abbott Family for scraps.
But Susanna never got along with her. If she ever remarried Aaron, who knows how she'd get back at her.
Just thinking about it made Elaine's scalp tingle. She couldn't let them remarry.
Susanna then looked at Maud, "And you, have you forgotten so quickly?"
Although she felt a bit sorry for Maud, her behavior was disgraceful for a wealthy family lady. She acted like a shrew, and Susanna couldn't muster any sympathy.
Maud kept up her high-class act, "I was deceived by that impostor. But your family's upbringing is the same, whether it's a fake or the real deal."
At that moment, Elaine's eyes lit up. "Maud, the manager of Velvet Sky Ballroom is here."
Maud turned to see the manager in a suit and smiled, "What a coincidence."
"Maud, look, the manager is heading our way. Maybe he saw you and came over to say hi. I told you, the owner of Velvet Sky Ballroom knows to work with our family, so he sent someone to make nice."
Susanna was puzzled.
